Symmetrical drug-related intertriginous and flexural erythema is characterized by a diffuse symmetric rash of the gluteal and intertriginous areas with only one published report of association with tamoxifen. It is imperative for clinicians to recognize tamoxifen-induced SDRIFE to avoid life-threatening dermatologic complications, which can be resolved with discontinuation of tamoxifen.

These medical case reports discuss the reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) features of palisaded encapsulated neuromas (PEN), a relatively uncommon benign neural tumor that predominantly manifests in middle-aged females, most notably on the facial cheek. These reports feature two middle-aged females who both presented with concern for progressively enlarging cheek papules. Dermoscopy revealed the presence of symmetrical, dome-shaped papules with arborizing blood vessels that were not in sharp focus.

Preserving and regulating cellular homeostasis in the light of changing environmental conditions or developmental processes is of pivotal importance for single cellular and multicellular organisms alike. To counteract an imbalance in cellular homeostasis transcriptional programs evolved, called the heat shock response, unfolded protein response, and integrated stress response, that act cell-autonomously in most cells but in multicellular organisms are subjected to cell-nonautonomous regulation. These transcriptional programs downregulate the expression of most genes but increase the expression of heat shock genes, including genes encoding molecular chaperones and proteases, proteins involved in the repair of stress-induced damage to macromolecules and cellular structures.

Background: The American Society of Plastic Surgeons commissioned the multidisciplinary Performance Measure Development Work Group on Reconstruction after Skin Cancer Resection to identify and draft quality measures for the care of patients undergoing skin cancer reconstruction. Included stakeholders were the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Society for Mohs Surgery, and a patient representative.
Methods: Two outcome measures and five process measures were identified.

Purpose: Develop a novel therapeutic strategy for patients with subtypes of mature T-cell and NK-cell neoplasms.
Experimental Design: Primary specimens, cell lines, patient-derived xenograft models, commercially available, and proprietary anti-KLRG1 antibodies were used for screening, target, and functional validation.
Results: Here we demonstrate that surface KLRG1 is highly expressed on tumor cells in subsets of patients with extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTCL), T-prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL), and gamma/delta T-cell lymphoma (G/D TCL).

Recreational drug use is increasingly common in the dermatology patient population and is often associated with both general and specific mucocutaneous manifestations. Signs of substance use disorder may include changes to general appearance, skin, and mucosal findings associated with particular routes of drug administration (injection, insufflation, or inhalation) or findings specific to a particular drug. In this review article, we provide an overview of the mucocutaneous manifestations of illicit drug use including cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, hallucinogens, marijuana, and common adulterants to facilitate the identification and improved care of these patients with the goal being to connect this patient population with appropriate resources for treatment.

People for whom English is a second language, such as the deaf population, often have unequal access to health information and low health literacy. In the context of a wider study on risk of tick-borne illness in deaf communities, we explored barriers, opportunities, and nuances to accessible health information and communication among deaf people. Semi-structured qualitative individual and group interviews were conducted with 40 deaf people in upstate New York, to explore factors associated with health literacy and health information accessibility.

Pembrolizumab is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) receptor and is approved for the treatment of several malignancies. We present a rare case of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) occurring in a 75-year-old female 14 days after receiving the first dose of pembrolizumab therapy to treat stage IV non-small cell carcinoma of the lungs with metastasis to the brain. Although pruritus and papular, erythematous rashes are documented after its use, severe reactions such as SJS and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rarely seen in clinical practice.

Oral and laryngeal cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is rare and usually associated with poor prognosis. Here, we discuss 2 cases of oral CTCL that developed in heavily pretreated patients and provide a review of the literature. The first case is of a 46-year-old African American male with rapidly progressive disease, presenting with a lesion on his hard palate 6 months after being diagnosed with a CD4+CD8+ CTCL.

July 2022
Department of Ophthalmology, Blanton Eye Institute, Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the ophthalmology residency match results to determine changes in the rate of home-institution matches during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Aggregate deidentified summary match result data from 2017 to 2022 was obtained from the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology and the San Francisco (SF) Match. A chi-squared test was performed to determine if the rate of candidate matching to the home residency program in ophthalmology was higher in the post-COVID-19 compared with pre-COVID-19 match years.
