Myocardial infarction is a leading cause of death globally but is notoriously difficult to predict. We aimed to identify biomarkers of an imminent first myocardial infarction and design relevant prediction models. Here, we constructed a new case-cohort consortium of 2,018 persons without prior cardiovascular disease from six European cohorts, among whom 420 developed a first myocardial infarction within 6 months after the baseline blood draw.

There is an unmet need for objective disease-specific biomarkers in the heterogeneous autoimmune neuromuscular disorder myasthenia gravis (MG). This cross-sectional study identified a signature of 23 inflammatory serum proteins with proximity extension assay (PEA) that distinguishes acetylcholine receptor antibody seropositive (AChR+) MG patients from healthy controls (HCs). CCL28, TNFSF14, 4E-BP1, transforming growth factor alpha (TGF-α), and ST1A1 ranked top biomarkers.

Aim: To investigate associations between psychosocial burden and biomarkers reflecting pathophysiological pathways in patients with chronic coronary syndrome.
Methods: Psychosocial (PS) factors were collected from self-assessed questionnaires and biomarkers representing inflammation (high-sensitivity [hs]-C-reactive protein [CRP], interleukin-6 [IL-6], lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 [Lp-PLA2]) and cardiac injury/stress (hs-troponin T [hs-TnT], N-terminal pro-B type natriuretic peptide [NT-proBNP]) were measured in 12,492 patients with chronic coronary syndrome in the STABILITY trial. Associations between level of each psychosocial factor (never-rarely (reference), sometimes, often-always) and biomarkers were evaluated using linear models with adjusted geometric mean ratios (GMR).

Background: Modern drug-eluting stents have seen significant improvements, yet still create a rigid cage within the coronary artery. There is a 2% to 4% annual incidence of target lesion failure (TLF) beyond 1 year, and half of the patients experience angina after 5 years. The DynamX bioadaptor is a sirolimus-eluting, thin (71 µm) cobalt-chromium platform with helical strands that unlock and separate after in vivo degradation of the bioresorbable polymer coating.

Background: Women with a history of adverse pregnancy outcomes have a higher risk of coronary heart disease. Emerging evidence suggests that women with a history of preeclampsia have a different pattern of overall coronary atherosclerosis and that they at the time of myocardial infarction (MI) more frequently present with ST-segment elevation MI (STEMI) compared to women with no such history.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine whether among women with MI, those with a history of adverse pregnancy outcomes are more likely to present with STEMI or other clinical characteristics indicating a more severe myocardial injury.

Background: Biomarkers reflecting brain injury are not routinely used in risk assessment of stroke in atrial fibrillation (AF). Neurofilament light chain (NFL) is a novel biomarker released into blood after cerebral insults. We investigated the association between plasma concentrations of NFL, other biomarkers, and risk of stroke and death in patients with AF not receiving oral anticoagulation.

Background: Coronary atherosclerosis detected by imaging is a marker of elevated cardiovascular risk. However, imaging involves large resources and exposure to radiation. The aim was, therefore, to test whether nonimaging data, specifically data that can be self-reported, could be used to identify individuals with moderate to severe coronary atherosclerosis.

Mastocytosis is a heterogeneous disorder characterized by abnormal mast cell accumulation, in which the clinical severity may be explained by distinct molecular mechanisms. This study aimed to explore plasma protein biomarkers associated with systemic mastocytosis subtypes, as well as the cellular origin of the identified proteins. Plasma samples from patients with mastocytosis, including cutaneous mastocytosis (CM), indolent systemic mastocytosis (ISM), and advanced systemic mastocytosis (AdvSM), and a reference group of patients with polycythemia vera, were analyzed by Proximity Extension Assay technology targeting 275 proteins.
