Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) account for a large proportion of healthcare-associated infections. CAUTIs, caused by colonization of the catheter surface by uropathogens, are challenging to treat, especially when compounded by antibiotic resistance. One prophylactic strategy that could reduce pathogen colonization is bacterial interference, whereby the catheter surface is coated with non-pathogenic bacteria.

Background: The efficacy of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) targeting the EGFR is limited due to the persistence of drug-tolerant cell populations, leading to therapy resistance. The rapid collapse, initiated by a pH jump, is characterized by an exponential decrease in the radius of gyration from 20.6 to 12.

Introduction: Hypersensitivity reactions (HSR) are a known adverse effect of paclitaxel, occurring in approximately 10% of patients, typically during the first or second infusion of the medication. Corticosteroids, histamine-1 and histamine-2 receptor antagonists are given prior to paclitaxel infusions to reduce the incidence of HSR. There are limited data that suggest administration of cetirizine given prior to a platinum infusion as secondary prophylaxis may reduce HSR rates.

Guanine-rich nucleic acids can form intramolecularly folded four-stranded structures known as G-quadruplexes (G4s). Traditionally, G4 research has focused on short, highly modified DNA or RNA sequences that form well-defined homogeneous compact structures. However, the existence of longer sequences with multiple G4 repeats, from proto-oncogene promoters to telomeres, suggests the potential for more complex higher-order structures with multiple G4 units that might offer selective drug-targeting sites for therapeutic development.

Background: Head and neck cancers (HNC) are associated with high rates of anxiety. Anxiety has been linked to biological pathways implicated in cancer progression, though little is known about its effects on overall survival. Background And Aims: With the advent and implementation of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays, differentiation of patients with distinct types of myocardial injuries, including acute thrombotic myocardial infarction (TMI), acute non-thrombotic myocardial injury (nTMi), and chronic coronary atherosclerotic disease (cCAD), is of pressing clinical importance. Thermal liquid biopsy (TLB) emerges as a valuable diagnostic tool, relying on identifying thermally induced conformational changes of biomolecules in blood plasma. While TLB has proven useful in detecting and monitoring several cancers and autoimmune diseases, its application in cardiovascular diseases remains unexplored.
