Background: Aortic valve stenosis (AVS) can be complicated by bleeding associated with acquired type 2A von Willebrand syndrome. The association of AVS and gastrointestinal bleeding from angiodysplasia is defined as Heyde syndrome. We sought to evaluate the effect of transcutaneous aortic valve implantation (TAVI) on hemostasis disorders and to assess its effectiveness to treat Heyde syndrome.

Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the association between prenatal exposure to AEDs and the risk of dental agenesis and to differentiate between the possible effects of the different drugs used.
Methods: Data on 214 exposed and 255 unexposed children, aged 12-18 years, were extracted from the Prescription Database of the Central Denmark Region and North Denmark Region and the Danish Medical Birth Registry. The children's dental charts were examined for the presence of dental agenesis.

Background And Purpose: Cerebral microembolic signals detected by transcranial Doppler are frequent during carotid angioplasty with stenting and carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Their potential harmful effects on the brain are, however, unclear. The aim of this study was to relate the frequency and type of per-procedural microembolic signals to procedure-related ipsilateral ischemic strokes and new ipsilateral ischemic lesions on diffusion-weighted cerebral MRI.

Background: All metal implants--and metal-on-metal bearings in particular--corrode and cause a release of metal ions. Because cobalt and chromium have been shown to be carcinogenic and mutagenic in human and animal models, systemic toxicity and cancer risk are considered to be possible disadvantages of the metal-on-metal articulation. This study was designed to investigate the serum concentration profiles of chromium, cobalt and molybdenum after implantation of a Birmingham hip resurfacing arthroplasty (BHR) and a cementless total hip replacement with a 28-mm Metasul articulation (MTHR), over the first 2 years after implantation.

In this study, the factors in overnight dwell fluid (8 to 10 hr dwell) depressing granulocyte (GC) NAD(P)H-oxidase dependent radical species production are characterized. At present, most studies have essentially focused on fresh, unspent dialysate and on peritoneal macrophages. The response to Staphylococcus aureus (Staph A) was dose-dependently depressed for both GC CO2 production (from 91.
