Outpatient care following nonhospitalized traumatic brain injury (TBI) is variable, and often sparse. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's 2022 report on highlighted the need to improve the consistency and quality of TBI care in the community. In response, the present study aimed to identify existing evidence-based guidance and specific clinical actions over the days to months following nonhospitalized TBI that should be prioritized for implementation in primary care.

Recent Findings: Malnutrition is common among IBD patients, affecting up to 85% of individuals, and is linked to higher rates of illness, death, and longer hospital stays. Recent studies highlight the importance of early detection using tools like the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and handgrip strength tests.

A phase I study of convection-enhanced delivery (CED) of liposomal-irinotecan using real-time magnetic resonance imaging in patients with recurrent high-grade glioma.

Background: Irinotecan demonstrates anti-tumor efficacy in preclinical glioma models but clinical results are modest due to drug delivery limitations. Convection enhanced delivery (CED) improves drug delivery by increasing intratumoral drug concentration. Real-time magnetic resonance imaging of infusate delivery during CED may optimize tumor coverage.

The COVID-19 pandemic posed challenges to the mental health and well-being (MHW) of adolescents. The present study aimed to explore how parent-adolescent conversations may have protected (or threatened) adolescent mental health during the first year of the pandemic. We examined how parents and adolescents discussed MHW together and the influence of parents' affective conversational climate on changes in adolescent anxiety/depression over time.

The impact of a caregiver's chronic illness on childhood psychosocial functioning.

Introduction: Prolonged activation of the body's stress response from chronic exposure to adverse stressors may have a significant impact on lifelong psychosocial functioning. Screening for the impact of prolonged adversity in childhood has become an integral component of pediatric care. While past research has separately explored the impact of caregiver chronic illness and caregiver toxic stress on children, the relationship between caregiver chronic illness disability burden, caregiver parental toxic stress, and their child's psychosocial functioning is not well understood.

Background: Mental health is a contributing factor to the overall well-being of patients, and the 2-question Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2) and 9-question Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) are reliable in-clinic tools to assess depression and self-harm. The prevalence of adolescents with depression symptoms within a pediatric orthopaedic sports clinic has not been assessed.

Hypothesis: That rates of depression and risk of self-harm would vary based on presenting pathology among adolescents sustaining a sports-related injury.

Introduction: The gut microbiota has a complex relationship with the human host and is key to maintaining health. Disruption of the healthy diverse gut microbial milieu plays an important role in the pathogenesis of several diseases including infection (CDI), inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, alcohol-related liver disease and metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is highly effective in treating CDI, though its utility in other diseases is still being explored.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have emerged as potential alternatives to conventional antibiotics due to their novelty and multiple mechanisms of action. Because they are peptides, AMPs are amenable to bioengineering and suitable for cloning and expression at large production scales. However, the efficient delivery of AMPs is an unaddressed issue, particularly due to their large size, possible toxicities, and the development of adverse immune responses.

Background: Testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs) are the most common cancers among young men in the United States. Incidence rates among non-Hispanic White (NHW) men historically have been much higher than the rates among other men. To study whether this pattern had changed, the authors examined trends in TGCT incidence for the years 1992-2021.

Background: Clinical situations marked by severe social withdrawal in youths are increasingly recognized as an important public health issue in European countries, while the relation with the hikikomori syndrome initially described in Japan remains poorly investigated.

Aims: This study aims to describe the sociodemographic features of adolescents and young adults with social withdrawal in French and to validate a French version of the Hikikomori Questiuonnaire-25 (HQ-25).

Methods: We conducted a meta-analysis of the prevalence of food insecurity among people experiencing HIH and a systematic review of associated factors through a comprehensive search of 8 academic databases.

Humeral Head-Split Fracture in Two Dogs.

Two skeletally immature female dogs were each investigated for chronic weight-bearing thoracic limb lameness. The first patient was lame for 2 months following a tumble whilst playing, and the second patient had been intermittently lame since 3 weeks of age. In both cases, radiographic examination of the shoulder revealed fissuring of the caudal humeral head consistent with an incomplete proximal humeral Salter-Harris type IV fracture with an Enoki-mushroom-like appearance of the caudal fragment, where two heads rise from a common stem.

Mathematics Achievement in Women With and Without ADHD: Childhood Predictors and Developmental Trajectories Into Adulthood.

Youth with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often exhibit impairments in mathematics, but long-term math development into adulthood, particularly in females, is underexplored. We characterized trajectories of math achievement in girls with ADHD and an age- and ethnicity-matched comparison sample from childhood through early adulthood across four waves and examined childhood cognitive predictors (global executive functioning, working memory, processing speed) of trajectories. The ethnically and socioeconomically diverse sample comprised 140 girls with carefully diagnosed ADHD and 88 neurotypicals, ages 6 to 12 years at baseline.
