In a Josephson junction, the current phase relation relates the phase variation of the superconducting order parameter φ, between the two superconducting leads connected through a weak link, to the dissipationless current. This relation is the fingerprint of the junction. It is usually dominated by a sin(φ) harmonic, however, its precise knowledge is necessary to design superconducting quantum circuits with tailored properties.

Two of nature's recurring binding motifs in metalloproteins are the CxxxCxxC motif in radical SAM enzymes and the 2-His-1-carboxylate motif found both in zincins and α-ketoglutarate and non-haem iron enzymes. Here we show the confluence of these two domains in a single post-translational modifying enzyme containing an N-terminal radical S-adenosylmethionine domain fused to a C-terminal 2-His-1-carboxylate (HExxH) domain. The radical SAM domain catalyses three-residue cyclophane formation and is the signature modification of triceptides, a class of ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides.

In this study, gelatin/carboxylated cellulose nanocrystal (cCNC) bionanocomposite films were developed as an eco-friendly alternative to non-biodegradable flexible plastic packaging. Cellulose nanocrystals were modified by 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO)-mediated oxidation (cCNC) to strategically interact with amino groups present in the gelatin macromolecular backbone. Gelatin/cCNC bionanocomposite films (0.

This paper explores the evolution of geoscientific inquiry, tracing the progression from traditional physics-based models to modern data-driven approaches facilitated by significant advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and data collection techniques. Traditional models, which are grounded in physical and numerical frameworks, provide robust explanations by explicitly reconstructing underlying physical processes. However, their limitations in comprehensively capturing Earth's complexities and uncertainties pose challenges in optimization and real-world applicability.

The methodology of statistical analysis of cathodoluminescence (CL) intensity mappings on ensembles of several hundreds of InGaN/GaN nanowires (NWs) used to quantify non-radiative recombination centres (NRCs) was validated on InGaN/GaN NWs exhibiting spatially homogeneous cathodoluminescence at the scale of single NWs. Cathodoluminescence intensity variations obeying Poisson's statistics were assigned to the presence of randomly incorporated point defects acting as NRCs. Additionally, another type of NRCs, namely extended defects leading to spatially inhomogeneous cathodoluminescence intensity at the scale of single InGaN/GaN NWs are revealed by high resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy, geometrical phase analysis and two-beam diffraction conditions techniques.

In the final phases of bacterial cell wall synthesis, penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) catalyze the cross-linking of peptidoglycan. For many decades, effective and non-toxic β-lactam antibiotics have been successfully used as mimetics of the d-Ala-d-Ala moiety of the natural substrate and employed as irreversible inhibitors of PBPs. In the years following their discovery, the emergence of resistant bacteria led to a decline in their clinical efficacy.

Introduction: European regulations have recently moved towards more stringent requirements for demonstrating the safety and performance of medical devices (MDs).
Objective: To apply an innovative testing method using medical simulation to the evaluation of three medical devices at different stages of their life cycle.
Method: The methodology for evaluating DMs using simulation is based on seven stages: definition of the context, training, construction of a scenario to test the DM, validation of the scenario, realization of the scenario, evaluation of the scenario by the players and validation and exploitation of the results.
Objectives: To determine the efficacy and safety of antipsychotic medication for treating individuals with a dual diagnosis of intellectual disability (ID) and schizophrenia.
Methods: We systematically reviewed the literature to explore the risks and benefits of antipsychotics for schizophrenia in ID. In addition, a cross-sectional retrospective study on the tolerance profiles of a representative ID and schizophrenia cohort was conducted.

The escalating need for a sustainable future has driven the advancement of renewable functional materials. Nanocellulose, derived from the abundant natural biopolymer cellulose, demonstrates noteworthy characteristics, including high surface area, crystallinity, mechanical strength, and modifiable chemistry. When combined with two-dimensional (2D) graphitic materials, nanocellulose can generate sophisticated hybrid materials with diverse applications as building blocks, carriers, scaffolds, and reinforcing constituents.

Various terms are used to describe non-malignant tissue located in the proximity of a tumor, belonging to the organ from which the tumor originated. Traditionally, these tissues, sometimes called "normal adjacent tissue" have been used as controls in cancer studies, and were considered representative of morphologically healthy, non-cancerous tissue. However, with the advancement of OMIC technologies, such tissues are increasingly recognized to be distinct from both tumor and healthy tissues.

Mitochondrial creatine kinase (mtCK) regulates the "fast" export of phosphocreatine to support cytoplasmic phosphorylation of ADP to ATP which is more rapid than direct ATP export. Such "creatine-dependent" phosphate shuttling is attenuated in several muscles, including the heart, of the D2.mdx mouse model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy at only 4 weeks of age.

Objective: There is currently scarce data on the electroclinical characteristics of epilepsy associated with synapsin 1 (SYN1) pathogenic variations. We examined clinical and electro-encephalographic (EEG) features in patients with epilepsy and SYN1 variants, with the aim of identifying a distinctive electroclinical pattern.
Methods: In this retrospective multicenter study, we collected and reviewed demographic, genetic, and epilepsy data of 19 male patients with SYN1 variants.

The role of the gut microbiota in human health calls for a better understanding of its determinants. In particular, the possible effects of chemicals with widespread exposure other than pharmaceuticals are little known. Our aim was to characterize the sensitivity of the early-life gut microbiota to specific chemicals with possible antimicrobial action.

In this paper, we evaluated the ability of four coarse-grained methods to predict protein flexible regions with potential biological importance, UNRES-flex, UNRES-DSSP-flex (based on the united residue model of polypeptide chains without and with secondary structure restraints, respectively), CABS-flex (based on the C-α, C-β, and side chain model), and nonlinear rigid block normal mode analysis (NOLB) with a set of 100 protein structures determined by NMR spectroscopy or X-ray crystallography, with all secondary structure types. End regions with high fluctuations were excluded from analysis. The Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients were used to quantify the conformity between the calculated and experimental fluctuation profiles, the latter determined from NMR ensembles and X-ray -factors, respectively.
