Department of Radiology, Maternal-Child, Senological, Cardiological Radiology and Outpatient Ultrasound, University Hospital of Marche, 60126 Ancona, Italy.

Magnetic resonance (MR) defecography, including both static and dynamic phases, is frequently requested by gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons for planning the treatment of obstructive defecation syndrome and pelvic organ prolapse. However, reports often lack key information needed to guide treatment strategies, making management challenging and, at times, controversial. It has been hypothesized that using structured radiology reports could reduce missing information.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a traumatic event that significantly impacts body composition and alters energy and nutritional needs. This places patients with SCI at a high risk of malnutrition, which can hinder optimal functional recovery, prolong hospital stays, increase hospital admissions, and contribute to the development of obesity and cardiovascular and metabolic ailments in chronic patients. Consequently, there is an urgent need for clear guidance to support clinicians in managing the nutritional needs of patients with SCI at different stages of the disease, including the acute (0 - 4 months after injury), post-acute (4 - 26 months after injury), and post-discharge phases.

Background: A business continuity plan (BCP) facilitates the performance of primary functions during emergencies or other situations that can disrupt normal operations. If risk management is done analytically, a business impact analysis (BIA), according to ISO 22301 certification, makes it possible to define the best strategy for supporting the company's assets and image, optimizing the operational efficiency of service recovery and redesigning spaces for health. Since 2015, our healthcare company has embarked on a certification process for all sectors and activities through the implementation and development of diagnostic and therapeutic paths for operational diagnos-tic-therapeutic-assistance pathways (PDTAs).

Article Synopsis
  • In patients with Cystic Fibrosis (pwCF), lung infections can be tricky to treat because some bacteria are in a "sleeping" state called VBNC, which makes them hard to find using regular tests.
  • A study looked at 94 pwCF over a year to see how often these VBNC bacteria were present and how it related to their health.
  • The results showed that most patients had VBNC cells at least once, and these were linked to worse lung health and more frequent flare-ups in their condition, highlighting the need for better testing methods.

Introduction: Vacuum assisted venous drainage (VAVD) is widely adopted in minimally invasive cardiac surgery. VAVD enables the advantage of using smaller cannulae in a reduced surgical field while allowing satisfactory drainage and pump flow. The production of gaseous micro-emboli is a recognized risk associated with VAVD, however no difference in clinical endpoints have been reported between patients operated on with gravity venous drainage (GVD) or with VAVD.

Cardiac Masses and Pseudomasses: An Overview about Diagnostic Imaging and Clinical Background.

Medicina (Kaunas)

December 2023

Cardiovascular Radiological Diagnostics, Department of Radiological Sciences, University Hospital of Marche, 60126 Ancona, Italy.

A cardiac lesion detected at ultrasonography might turn out to be a normal structure, a benign tumor or rarely a malignancy, and lesion characterization is very important to appropriately manage the lesion itself. The exact relationship of the mass with coronary arteries and the knowledge of possible concomitant coronary artery disease are necessary preoperative information. Moreover, the increasingly performed coronary CT angiography to evaluate non-invasively coronary artery disease leads to a rising number of incidental findings.
