Aims: Myocardial inflammation and impaired mitochondrial oxidative capacity are hallmarks of heart failure (HF) pathophysiology. The extent of myocardial inflammation in patients suffering from ischaemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and its association with mitochondrial energy metabolism are unknown. We aimed at establishing a relevant role of cardiac inflammation in the impairment of mitochondrial energy production in advanced ischaemic and non-ischaemic HF.

Hysterectomy (HE) is the most common surgical procedure in gynecology worldwide. The guidelines of most countries unanimously recommend vaginal hysterectomy (VH) as the access of first choice. However, there are significant international differences in the implementation of this recommendation.

Background: Time-resolved angiography with interleaved stochastic trajectories (TWIST) magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) may obscure smaller vessels and is highly susceptibility to motion artifacts, potentially reducing endoleak detection accuracy after endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). The novel golden-angle radial sparse parallel (GRASP) sequence enhances spatial and temporal resolution with continuous, motion-robust datasets, showing promise for accurate endoleak detection post-EVAR. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic effectiveness of contrast-enhanced compressed-sensing radial GRASP-volume interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) sequence with standard contrast-enhanced dynamic TWIST-VIBE sequence in patients with inconclusive computed tomography angiography (CTA) findings regarding endoleak after EVAR.

Background: Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) is an emerging alternative to whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) for treating multiple brain metastases (BM), reducing toxicity and improving tumor control. The CYBER-SPACE trial compared SRS based on either SPACE or MPRAGE MRI sequence for avoiding or delaying WBRT in patients with 1-10 BM.
Methods: Patients with 1-10 untreated BM were randomized 1:1 to receive SRS of all lesions based on either SPACE or MPRAGE MRI sequences.

: Early childhood caries (ECC) is a widespread and severe oral health problem that potentially affects the general health of children. Visual-tactile examination remains the diagnostic method of choice to diagnose ECC, although visual examination could be automated by artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the future. The aim of this study was the external validation of a recently published and freely accessible AI-based model for detecting ECC and classifying carious lesions in dental photographs.

Real-world data on the management of patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) are so far scarce in Germany. Therefore, we aimed to establish a nationwide registry and describe the clinical characteristics and therapy of PBC patients.Three different cohorts defined as ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) responders, as inadequate responders according to Paris II criteria, and as newly diagnosed patients were prospectively recruited.

Background: Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA-4) insufficiency causes a primary immune regulatory disorder characterized by lymphoproliferation, dysgammaglobulinemia, and multiorgan autoimmunity including cytopenias and colitis.
Objective: We examined the outcome of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for CTLA-4 insufficiency and study the impact of pre-HSCT CTLA-4 fusion protein (CTLA-4-Ig) therapy and pre-HSCT immune dysregulation on survival and immunologic outcome.
Methods: This was a retrospective study of HSCT for CTLA-4 insufficiency and 2q33.

A significant number of prostate cancer patients are long-term survivors after primary definitive therapy, and the occurrence of late side effects, such as second primary cancers, has gained interest. The aim of this editorial is to discuss the most current evidence on second primary cancers based on six retrospective studies published in 2021-2024 using large data repositories not accounting for all possible confounding factors, such as smoking or pre-existing comorbidities. Overall, prostate cancer patients treated with curative radiotherapy have an increased risk (0.

Introduction: Epilepsy surgery is the only curative treatment for patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy. Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) is the gold standard to delineate the seizure-onset zone (SOZ). However, up to 40% of patients are subsequently not operated as no focal non-eloquent SOZ can be identified.

Background: The use of positron-emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) in radiation therapy (RT) has increased. Radiation oncologists (RadOncs) have access to PET/CT with a variety of tracers for different tumor entities and use it for target volume definition. The German Society of Nuclear Medicine (DGN) and the German Society of Radiation Oncology (DEGRO) aimed to identify current patterns of care in order to improve interdisciplinary collaboration.

Background And Aims: Type 1 long QT syndrome (LQT1) is caused by pathogenic variants in the KCNQ1-encoded Kv7.1 potassium channels, which pathologically prolong ventricular action potential duration (APD). Herein, the pathologic phenotype in transgenic LQT1 rabbits is rescued using a novel KCNQ1 suppression-replacement (SupRep) gene therapy.

Background: This study aimed to assess geometry changes of the ascending aorta after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for descending aortic dissection and identify potential risk factors for diameter and length change.
Methods: Between April 2009 and July 2021, 102 patients were treated for acute descending aortic dissections (type B and non-A non-B) with TEVAR and were included in this analysis. Computed tomography angiographic scans were transferred to a dedicated imaging software and detailed aortic measurements (including length, diameter and area) were taken in multiplanar reconstruction postoperatively, after 6 months and annually thereafter.

Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) refers to the abnormal adhesion of the placenta to the myometrium, with varying degrees of severity. Placenta accreta involves adhesion to the myometrium, placenta increta invades the myometrium, and placenta percreta extends through the serosa to adjacent organs. The condition is linked to deficient decidualization in scarred uterine tissue, and the risk increases when placenta previa is present and with each prior cesarean delivery.

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is recognized as a chronic autoimmune disorder with systemic inflammation and joint damage. Its potential role as a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is increasingly noted. This review delves into the causal relationship between RA and CVD, with Mendelian randomization (MR) offering a genetic perspective.

RNA structure is crucial for RNA function, including in viral cis-elements such as the hepatitis B virus (HBV) RNA encapsidation signal ε. Interacting with the viral polymerase ε mediates packaging of the pregenomic (pg) RNA into capsids, initiation of reverse transcription, and it affects the mRNA functions of pgRNA. As free RNA, the 61-nucleotide (nt) ε sequence adopts a bipartite stem-loop structure with a central bulge and an apical loop.

Germline mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 (gBRCA1/2) are required for a PARP inhibitor therapy in patients with HER2-negative (HER2-) advanced breast cancer (aBC). However, little is known about the prognostic impact of gBRCA1/2 mutations in aBC patients treated with chemotherapy. This study aimed to investigate the frequencies and prognosis of germline and somatic BRCA1/2 mutations in HER2- aBC patients receiving the first chemotherapy in the advanced setting.
