One of the most prevalent diseases affecting humans are those which affect the oral cavity. Several diseases can affect the mouth, such as oral cancer, dental caries, Lichen Planus and, of course, periodontal disease with its variants. This review discusses gingivitis, periodontitis and peri-implantitis with a brief focus on the different primary prevention aids, such as mechanical, chemical and the new generation of potential products to be used in the future dental market, products that are prepared from natural sources, the general trend worldwide.

Palatal Erythema with Histological Psoriasiform Pattern: An Enigmatic Oral Finding Shared by a Range of Conditions.

Long standing, asymptomatic, well-demarcated erythema of the hard palate with a histopathological psoriasiform pattern comprises a challenging diagnosis. We present a series of patients with such clinical and histological findings and discuss the possible diagnoses. We collected all patients with palatal erythematous lesions that had well-documented clinical examination.

Dentists, dental hygienists and dental students' knowledge regarding recommended fluoride concentration in toothpaste for children.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to assess the knowledge of dentists, dental hygienists and dental students regarding the Israeli Ministry of Health guidelines for using fluoridated toothpaste.

Materials And Methods: An anonymous questionnaire was distributed to dentists, dental hygienists, and dental students in their final years at the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine. Participants were queried regarding their knowledge of Ministry of Health fluoride concentration guidelines in toothpaste by the following age categories: under 2 years, 2-6 years, and above 6 years.

Books relating to dental care of children go back many years. This includes care by mothers and the rise of good clinical treatments and prevention by dentists. Most early books were written by a single author.

A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial Comparing Tricalcium Silicate and Formocresol Pulpotomies Followed for Two to Four Years.

Tricalcium silicate (Biodentine), a new synthetic inorganic restorative cement, has shown a high rate of success in pulpotomy treatments, with few side effects. The purpose of the present randomized clinical control trial was to evaluate the long-term success of pulpotomies in human primary molars using tricalcium silicate versus formocresol. Healthy two- to 10-year-olds were treated with pulpotomies on primary molars as part of their scheduled regular dental treatment.

Auriculotemporal nerve syndrome (Frey's syndrome): A literature review and case report.

Frey's syndrome in children is rare and often erroneously attributed to food allergy. A description of a case of Frey's syndrome in a child and a review of the literature is provided. Awareness of this condition is important for the pediatric dentist to avoid unnecessary medical procedures and provide reassurance to the dental team in the setting of this benign condition.

Minor salivary glands: Clinical, histological and immunohistochemical features of common and less common pathologies.

Hundreds of minor salivary glands (MiSGs) are scattered in the oral cavity located at the submucosa layer. Beside their role in the oral cavity lubrication and immunity defence system, MiSGs are beneficial tissue source for diagnosing oral and non-oral related diseases. The advantage of MiSGs as a diagnostic tool reside on their fairly simple excisional procedure on one hand and negligible impact of the normal secretion capability of the salivary gland system on the other hand.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted by the Mucositis Study Group of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society for Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO) using PubMed and Web of Science. We followed the MASCC methods for systematic review and guidelines development.

History of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry: A 50-year perspective.

This paper demonstrates how the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD) arose from small beginnings in 1967. What started as an International Forum on Child Dental Health in London grew to become first the International Association of Dentistry for Children and then the outstanding IAPD with biennial Congresses, regional meetings, cooperation with other children's organizations, Teach the Teachers programmes, a wonderful website, and this International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry. There are now 70 national member societies worldwide representing over 16 000 members with a single interest: to further the oral health care of children.

Oral health-related quality of life in patients with disorders of nutrition.

Background: Researchers demonstrated a correlation between nutrition and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Little is known about the correlation between disorders of nutrition (DON) and Oral HRQoL (OHRQoL).

Objectives: (a) To measure OHRQoL in DON patients compared to patients attending nutritional counselling for other reasons (eg, systemic diseases or general dietary counselling) (NCOR) and to healthy controls attending routine dental screenings.
