Background: The first dermatology-specific proxy health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instrument for children 0-4 years old with skin diseases, the Infants and Toddlers Dermatology Quality of Life (InToDermQoL), was recently developed. In order to avoid the problem of cross-cultural inequivalence focus groups work and pilot tests were organized simultaneously in all national centres of the project. The InToDermQoL showed good comprehensibility, clarity and acceptance.

In this article, we describe potential cutaneous manifestations of common wilderness exposures in New England including photodermatoses from prolonged sun exposure, phytodermatoses from plant exposures, and arthropod-bite reactions from common insects (mosquitos, spiders, ticks, hymenoptera, mites and chiggers).

For decades, melanoma surgery has been guided by the Halstedian concept of stepwise metastasis, first into the lymph nodes and subsequently to distant sites. Early complete lymph node dissection (CLND) was therefore recommended in order to improve survival. Four large prospective randomized trials failed to show any survival benefit of CLND in comparison to observation alone.

Quality control of BRAF mutation testing methods used in routine practice is crucial for optimal treatment selection. In this prospective study, we assessed the impact of patient/sample characteristics on BRAF mutation testing results in patients with melanoma, during clinical practice. Data were collected on routine testing practices and documented mutation status in patients with melanoma stages IIIB, IIIC, or IV across 28 diagnostic pathology centers in Germany.

A female patient with xeroderma pigmentosum and multiple basal cell carcinomas was treated with a hedgehog pathway inhibitor (vismodegib), which successfully treated the majority of her basal cell carcinomas while preventing the appearance of new lesions. The sum diameter of lesions showed a 61% decrease after 16.5 months of treatment, although after 18.

Background: Until now, there was no validated dermatology-specific health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instrument to be used in youngest patients.
Objective: To create dermatology-specific proxy instrument for HRQoL assessment in children from birth to 4 years.
Methods: International focus groups, item selection and pilot tests were utilized.

Background: Assessment of the clinical relevance of patch test reactions is an essential part of the diagnostic work-up of patients with (occupational) contact dermatitis. However, final diagnostic information, particularly the clinical relevance of allergic patch test reactions, has hitherto been ill-represented in clinical documentation systems (patch test software) and surveillance registries based on these.
Objectives: To develop, implement as a pilot study, and analyse concerning feasibility and contents a new concept of representing the full scope of diagnostic information utilized in the diagnosis of patients with (occupational) contact dermatitis.

Although the association of the psychological problems and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) gained the increasing attention, the psychosocial state in college students with AGA remains unknown. We recruited a total number of 355 college students with AGA from 18 universities in Southern China for interview. The Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R) survey was used to assess the psychological state of these students.

Background And Objectives: Automated computer-guided diagnostic procedures are increasingly being integrated into patient care. However, in contrast to the increasing application of automation, patient acceptance and trust in such technologies has rarely been studied. Automated diagnosis of melanoma with dermatofluoroscopy was recently approved by regulatory agencies.

Background: Irritant exposure may be a contributory cause or the sole cause of (occupational) hand dermatitis. However, the documentation of irritant exposures in clinical practice is not standardized.
Objectives: To examine the feasibility and usefulness of a form with different items addressing both occupational and non-occupational irritant exposures in a semiquantitative way.

Background: Early detection is a key factor in improving survival from melanoma. Today, the clinical diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma is based mostly on visual inspection and dermoscopy. Preclinical studies in freshly excised or paraffin-embedded tissue have shown that the melanin fluorescence spectra after stepwise two-photon excitation, a process termed dermatofluoroscopy, differ between cutaneous melanoma and melanocytic naevi.

Port-wine stains (PWS) are congenital capillary malformations, usually occurring on the face, neck, and other exposed parts of the skin, that have serious psychological and social impact on the patient. Most researchers focus on the treatment of PWS, but the quality of life (QoL) of PWS patients is seldom researched. The objective of this study is to evaluate the QoL of patients with PWS on exposed parts and explore the factors influencing the QoL of PWS patients.

Background: We assessed safety, immunogenicity and clinical activity of recombinant MAGE-A3 antigen combined with AS15 immunostimulant (MAGE-A3 immunotherapeutic) in association with dacarbazine in patients with metastatic melanoma.
Methods: In this open-label, phase I/II, uncontrolled multicentre trial conducted in Belgium and France, patients with MAGE-A3-positive melanoma received up to 24 doses of MAGE-A3 immunotherapeutic (four cycles) coadministered with eight doses of dacarbazine. Adverse events (AE) were recorded until 31 days postvaccination, and serious AEs (SAE), until 30 days following the last dose.
