A unique collaboration of multi-disciplinary experts from the European Association of Dermato-Oncology (EADO), the European Dermatology Forum (EDF), and the European Organization of Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) was formed to make recommendations on cutaneous melanoma diagnosis and treatment, based on systematic literature reviews and the experts' experience. Cutaneous melanomas are excised with one to two-centimeter safety margins. For a correct stage classification and treatment decision, a sentinel lymph node biopsy shall be offered in patients with tumor thickness ≥ 1.

This guideline was developed in close collaboration with multidisciplinary experts from the European Association of Dermato-Oncology (EADO), the European Dermatology Forum (EDF) and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). Recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma were developed on the basis of systematic literature research and consensus conferences. Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is the most dangerous form of skin tumor and accounts for 90 % of skin cancer mortality.

The multifactorial etiology underlying melanoma development involves an array of genetic, phenotypic, and environmental factors. Genetic predisposition for melanoma is further influenced by the complex interplay between high-, medium-, and low-penetrance genes, each contributing to varying degrees of susceptibility. Within this network, high-penetrance genes, including CDKN2A, CDK4, BAP1, and POT1, are linked to a pronounced risk for disease, whereas medium- and low-penetrance genes, such as MC1R, MITF, and others, contribute only moderately to melanoma risk.

Introduction: Neutrophilic dermatoses (NDs) often occur secondary to inflammatory conditions, medication exposure, and hematologic malignancy. While malignancy-associated NDs (MA-NDs) have been well reported among those with hematologic cancers, little is known about drug-induced NDs (DI-NDs) within this population. The objective of this study was to compare the presentations and outcomes of patients with hematologic malignancies who developed MA-NDs and DI-NDs.

Article Synopsis
  • New Zealand has a high rate of skin cancer and long hospital waiting times for treatment, leading to more skin cancer surgeries being done in primary care settings.
  • This study assessed a process where general practitioners used teledermatology for diagnosing keratinocytic cancers, finding that 75% of cases led to confirmed diagnoses after excision.
  • Results showed that most surgeries by general practitioners occurred on average 25 days after referral, significantly quicker than those performed by specialists, indicating a more efficient workflow in primary care for skin cancer treatment.

Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) has gained importance in the treatment of several diseases. Initially introduced as a new therapeutic modality for the treatment of patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, the indications for the use of ECP have expanded to include hematology and transplantation immunology. Extracorporeal photopheresis has found its place in the treatment plan of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, systemic sclerosis, graft-versus-host disease, organ transplantation such as heart and lung, sometimes as first-line therapy and very often in combination with various systemic immunosuppressive therapies.

Introduction: Melanoma is the deadliest of all the skin cancers and its incidence is increasing every year in Europe. Patients with melanoma often present late to the specialist and treatment is delayed for many reasons (delay in patient consultation, misdiagnosis by general practitioners, and/or limited access to dermatologists). Beyond this, there are significant inequalities in skin cancer between population groups within the same country and between countries across Europe.

The fibrosis of tissues and organs occurs via an aberrant tissue remodeling process characterized by an excessive deposition of extracellular matrix, which can lead to organ dysfunction, organ failure, and death. Because the pathogenesis of fibrosis remains unclear and elusive, there is currently no medication to reverse it; hence, this process deserves further study. Activating protein-1 (AP-1)-comprising Jun (c-Jun, JunB, JunD), Fos (c-fos, FosB, Fra1, and Fra2), and activating transcription factor-is a versatile dimeric transcription factor.
