Introduction: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) stands as the primary chronic respiratory complication in premature infants, posing a substantial public health concern due to its rising prevalence, potential mortality, and socioeconomic burden.

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of BPD in very preterm infants and identify its associated risk factors.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective, descriptive, and analytical study including all premature infants born between 26 and 31 weeks of gestation age (GA) who survived beyond the 28th day of life, over a five-year period (2017-2021).

Background And Aims: Intercropping is an agriculture system used to enhance the efficiency of resource utilization and maximize crop yield grown under environmental stress such as salinity. Nevertheless, the impact of intercropping forage legumes with annual cereals on soil salinity remains unexplored. This research aimed to propose an intercropping system with alfalfa (Medicago sativa)/sea barley (Hordeum marinum) to explore its potential effects on plant productivity, nutrient uptake, and soil salinity.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (p-HBA) using Ru-based catalysts supported on various materials like TiO, CeO-TiO, ZrO-TiO, and LaO-TiO at high temperature and pressure.
  • The catalysts were characterized using techniques such as N-sorption and XRD, revealing that cerium-containing catalysts (Ru/CeTi) showed significantly higher activity due to their larger specific surface area and presence of acidic sites.
  • The results suggest that cerium enhances catalytic efficiency by trapping p-HBA molecules and preventing carbon deposition on the Ru surface through its redox activity.

Introduction: Pseudoachalasia is a rare clinical condition, often caused by malignancy. Rarely, this entity can reveal the underlying neoplasia. To the best of our knowledge, we report the first case of pseudoachalasia revealing a metastatic signet-ring cell carcinoma of the non-ampullary duodenum.

A thermoluminescent method for the evaluation of the I effective half-life in the thyroid when treating Graves' disease.

Radiat Environ Biophys

May 2021

Clinic El Manar of Tunis, 2090 Rue Habib Chatti, 2092, Tunis, Tunisia.

When planning treatment for Graves' disease with I, the effective half-life (T) should be estimated individually as it depends on biological characteristics such as iodine uptake and excretion, which differ from an individual to another (Berg et al. 1996). All the methods to quantify T described in the literature are quite complex and are difficult to be used in clinical routine.

In the aim to estimate the protective role of calcium (Ca) and ethylene glycol tetraacetic acid (EGTA) against cadmium (Cd)-induced damage, chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) seeds were exposed to 200 μM Cd stress for 6 days or 3 days then subjected to co-treatment of the metal with either 100 mM CaCl or 100 μM EGTA for 3 additional days. The addition of Ca and EGTA improved seedling growth.

Vertigo is a common sign related to a problem with the brain or vestibular system. Detection of ocular nystagmus can be a support indicator to distinguish different vestibular disorders. In order to get reliable and accurate real time measurements from nystagmus response, video-oculography (VOG) plays an important role in the daily clinical examination.

Backgroud And Objective: The control of clinical manifestation of vestibular system relies on an optimal diagnosis. This study aims to develop and test a new automated diagnostic scheme for vestibular disorder recognition.

Methods: In this study we stratify the Ellipse-fitting technique using the Video Nysta Gmographic (VNG) sequence to obtain the segmented pupil region.

Objective and methods To evaluate variation of capillary phenylalanine concentrations over the day in patients treated for phenylketonuria and the reliability of the morning sample to assess metabolic control, we conducted a repeated cross-sectional study in 25 Tunisian patients on phenylalanine-low diet. For each patient, we collected nine capillary samples over the day. Phenylalanine was dosed by fluorimetry.

Tomato contrasting genotypes responses under combined salinity and viral stresses.

Physiol Mol Biol Plants

Laboratory of Molecular Genetics, Immunology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Sciences of Tunis, University of Tunis ElManar, 2092 Tunis, Tunisia.

Tomato yellow leaf curl disease (TYLCD) and salinity stress adversely affect tomato production worldwide by causing extensive damages. In Tunisia, identifying TYLCD resistant cultivars selected in different environments is useful to devise counter-measures. To this end, 20 tomato commercial cultivars were screened for different gene alleles' combinations and evaluated either for TYLCD incidence or salinity constraint.

Ureteral stump empyema with calculi.

Urol Case Rep

January 2020

Department of urology, Habib BOURGUIBA Academic Medical Center, University of Sfax, 3029, Sfax, Tunisia.

A 52-year-old man with a history of right nephrectomy for a nonfunctioning kidney, consults after 22 years for fever with right lower abdominal pain. Surgical exploration was thereafter performed and the right ureteral stump was removed en bloc. Pathological examination of the right ureterectomy specimen revealed a significant acute and chronic ureteritis due to stone without any signs of malignancy.

The diagnostic of the vestibular neuritis (VN) presents many difficulties to traditional assessment methods This paper deals with a fully automatic VN diagnostic system based on nystagmus parameter estimation using a pupil detection algorithm. A geodesic active contour model is implemented to find an accurate segmentation region of the pupil. Hence, the novelty of the proposed algorithm is to speed up the standard segmentation by using a specific mask located on the region of interest.

Background: Several studies showed a correlation between C-reactive protein and mortality in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. However, the best time to measure C-reactive protein to assess prognosis is not yet clear. The purpose of this study was to determine if initial or H24-C-reactive protein is independently associated with 30-day mortality in intracerebral hemorrhage.

Salinity is a constraint limiting plant growth and productivity of crops throughout the world. Understanding the mechanism underlying plant response to salinity provides new insights into the improvement of salt tolerance-crops of importance. In the present study, we report on the responses of twenty cultivars of tomato.

Li0.5Al0.5Mg2(MoO4)3.

Acta Crystallogr Sect E Struct Rep Online

January 2014

Laboratory of Materials and Crystallochemistry, Faculty of Science of Tunis, University of Tunis ElManar, 2092 ElManar II Tunis, Tunisia.

The title compound, lithium/aluminium dimagnesium tetra-kis-[orthomolybdate(VI)], was prepared by a solid-state reaction route. The crystal structure is built up from MgO6 octa-hedra and MoO4 tetra-hedra sharing corners and edges, forming two types of chains running along [100]. These chains are linked into layers parallel to (010) and finally linked by MoO4 tetra-hedra into a three-dimensional framework structure with channels parallel to [001] in which lithium and aluminium cations equally occupy the same position within a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal coordination environment.
