Purpose: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to compare survival, clinical and radiographic results of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with vitamin E-stabilized polyethylene (VEPE) or conventional polyethylene (CPE) at a minimum of 7-year follow-up.
Methods: Patients who underwent primary TKA between 2011 and 2015, receiving the same cemented rotating platform knee design with VEPE or CPE tibial inserts, were identified. Patients were contacted for clinical and radiographic follow-up.

Purpose: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has experienced exponential growth over the last decade, including increasingly younger patients with high functional demands. Highly crosslinked polyethylene (HXLPE) has been proven effective in reducing osteolysis and loosening revisions while improving long-term survival and performance in total hip arthroplasty; nevertheless, this superiority is not demonstrated in TKA. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine whether HXLPE improved overall survival and postoperative functional and radiological outcomes compared to conventional polyethylene (CPE) in TKA.

Purpose: To investigate the association of patients' sex with recurrence and disease progression in patients treated with intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) for T1G3/HG urinary bladder cancer (UBC).
Materials And Methods: We analyzed the data of 2635 patients treated with adjuvant intravesical BCG for T1 UBC between 1984 and 2019. We accounted for missing data using multiple imputations and adjusted for covariate imbalance between males and females using inverse probability weighting (IPW).

Background: Osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVFs) have a high incidence in the elderly population and are usually treated conservatively with good outcomes. Nevertheless, failure of the conservative treatment may lead to serious complications. The aim of the study is to identify clinical, radiographic, and magnetic resonance imaging findings potentially related to the failure of the conservative treatment of OVFs.

Purpose: to evaluate the results of Delta ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) for total-hip-arthroplasty (THA).
Methods: 261 THA using Delta-CoC, retrospectively analyzed. A 36 mm head was used in 189 cases and a 32/40 mm in the others.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of vertebral stabilisation after acute traumatic thoracolumbar fractures, correlating the outcome with patient clinical data, type and location of fracture, presence of neurological damage, timing of surgical intervention and number of instrumented levels. The results have been evaluated also through the AO classification and AOSIS score.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of 101 patients with traumatic thoracolumbar injuries from T3 to L5 operated 2011-2016 by posterior or antero-posterior fixation.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of an eight-item surgical checklist (SC) on the recurrence-free survival (RFS) of patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) undergoing transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT).
Patients And Methods: A group of urologists at two tertiary referral centres, with expertise in bladder cancer, identified eight critical items that should be performed in every high-quality TURBT. An eight-item SC was prospectively implemented into clinical practice and the operative reports of TURBTs performed before and after implementation were reviewed.

Introduction: The surface area of exposed metal in a trabecular-titanium acetabular component is wider compared to traditional-titanium implants. The purpose of this study is to establish if this increase in surface area can lead to a significant increase in systemic metal levels.
Methods: 19 patients with conventional acetabular component and 19 with trabecular-titanium cup were compared.

Purpose: To analyze clinical, radiographic and magnetic resonance findings that might predict risk of complications and conservative treatment failure of osteoporotic vertebral fractures.
Methods: The authors conducted a systematic review of observational studies, collecting data on osteoporotic vertebral fracture and complications like vertebral collapse, kyphosis, pseudoarthrosis, and neurologic deficit. MeSH items such as 'spinal fracture/radiology,' 'spinal fracture/complications,' 'spinal fracture/diagnosis' were used.

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of the use of the neuromuscular electrical stimulation after total knee arthroplasty.
Design: The study used a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and PEDro) using Patient Population or Problem, Intervention, Comparison, Outcomes, Setting approach to formulate the research question, controlled terms, and Boolean operators. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were defined in advance.
Objectives: To audit the quality and safe management of sterile medical devices (SMDs), to examine the pharmacist's role in a multidisciplinary team, and to provide an example of hospital staff assessment of SMDs.
Methods: SMD management was assessed using the National Agency for Support to the Performance of Health and Medical-Social Establishment tool in the Hospital Centre of Cannes, France, in August 2013. Safety policy in the healthcare establishment, and the SMD cycle in the hospital pharmacy, SMD cycle and care practices in the visceral-vascular-urological surgery care unit were evaluated by four health professionals and three hospital pharmacists.

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of mild depression on pain perception after total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
Methods: Hamilton depression (HDRS) and numeric rating (NRS) scales were used to evaluate depression severity and pain perception at various intervals surrounding TKA. The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) knee and pain scores (NRS) in patients with signs of mild depression (HDRS < 20 points) were compared to a control group of patients with no signs of depression (HDRS < 8 points).

Infections in orthopaedic surgery are a serious issue. Antibiotic-loaded bone cement was developed for the treatment of infected joint arthroplasties and for prophylaxes in total joint replacement in selected cases. Despite the widespread use of the antibiotic-loaded bone cement in orthopedics, many issues are still unclear or controversial: bacterial adhesion and antibiotic resistance, modification of mechanical properties which follows the addition of the antibiotic, factors influencing the release of the antibiotic from the cement and the role of the surface, the method for mixing the cement and the antibiotic, the choice and the effectiveness of the antibiotic, the combination of two or more antibiotics, and the toxicity.
