Total pharyngo-laryngo-esophagectomy (TPLE) with free jejunal transplantation (FJT) is the standard reconstructive procedure for hypopharyngeal cancer, typically utilizing the superior thyroid artery as the recipient vessel. However, patient-specific anatomical variations and comorbidities can significantly complicate this surgery. We present a unique case of a 68-year-old male with hypopharyngeal cancer who exhibited multiple challenges, including short stature (126 cm), low weight (35 kg), cervical spondylosis, and a history of vertebroplasty, highlighting the complexities inherent in such reconstructions.

Although cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has been reported to be effective for improving the prognosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), more patients must participate in CR during admission and as outpatients. Factors contributing to, and countermeasures against, the low CR participation rate need to be identified. Here we describe the protocol for a study designed to evaluate the effectiveness and problems of CR for AMI from the Japanese Registry of All Cardiac and Vascular Diseases (JROAD) and the JROAD-Japanese Diagnosis Procedure Combination system (JROAD-DPC) database.

Although cardiovascular mortality in Japan is lower than in other industrialized countries, clinical outcomes in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remain poor despite multiple evidence-based drug therapies and interventions. We assumed that part of residual risk in these patients may be attributable to enhanced inflammation, which can be inhibited presumably by colchicine. However, dose-responsiveness of anti-inflammatory effect of colchicine has not been elucidated.

Introduction: The bleeding source of hematochezia is unknown without performing colonoscopy. We sought to identify whether colonoscopy is a risk-stratifying tool to identify etiology and predict outcomes and whether presenting symptoms can differentiate the etiologies in patients with hematochezia.
Methods: This multicenter retrospective cohort study conducted at 49 hospitals across Japan analyzed 10,342 patients admitted for outpatient-onset acute hematochezia.

Background: To examine the effect of prior use of cetuximab and neck dissection on the effectiveness of nivolumab, we conducted a large-scale subgroup analysis in Japanese patients with recurrent/metastatic head and neck cancer.
Methods: Data on the effectiveness of nivolumab were extracted from patient medical records. All patients were analyzed for effectiveness by prior cetuximab use.

Methods: This was a multicenter, retrospective study in Japanese patients with recurrent or metastatic HNC who received nivolumab for the first time between July and December 2017. Data on the clinical use, effectiveness, and safety of nivolumab were extracted from patient medical records.

The activity of the trapezius muscle is reportedly higher than that of other neck accessory muscles under a condition of increased inspiratory pressure in the standing position. The present study aimed to compare the activity of the trapezius muscle with those of the scalene and sternocleidomastoid muscles under a condition of increased inspiratory pressure in the supine position. This study included 40 subjects, and the muscle activity was measured using surface electromyography.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to elucidate the anatomic characteristics of the maxillary premolars for the planning of dental treatment using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).
Study Design: CBCT images were obtained for 150 maxillary premolars in 68 patients. The internal angle formed by the long axis of the maxillary premolars and the long axis of the alveolar bone was evaluated on the cross-sectional images.
