Unlabelled: STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Achieving and maintaining optimal tissue health and esthetics when immediately placing maxillary anterior implants with interim restorations has been challenging and the clinical outcomes heterogenous.
Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of immediate placement of maxillary anterior implants with interim restorations and compare the tomographic and clinical results before and after implant placement in participants followed for 1 to 14 years.
Material And Methods: Twenty participants receiving 25 postextraction single implants in the anterior maxilla were studied.

Recently developed extraoral techniques have allowed for an alternative approach for the digital acquisition of implant positions in fully edentulous patients. The "reverse scan body protocol" digitally simulates the traditional back-pouring technique long utilized in analog workflows. This article presents two cases in which an extraoral scanning technique was used to capture implant positions, design a prototype, and fabricate the definitive monolithic zirconia full-arch prosthesis.

Ferrocene is useful in modern organometallic chemistry due to its versatile applications in material sciences, catalysis, medicinal chemistry, and diagnostic applications. The ferrocene moiety can potentially serve many purposes in therapeutics and diagnostics. In the course of this study, (6-bromo-1-oxohexyl)ferrocene was combined with dimercaptomaleonitrile sodium salt to yield a novel maleonitrile derivative.

Introduction: This study evaluated the effects of diabetes mellitus (DM) on the nanostructure of root canal dentin using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).
Methods: Twenty extracted human premolars from diabetic and nondiabetic patients (n = 10 in each group) were decoronated and sectioned horizontally into 40 2-mm-thick dentin discs, with each disc designated for a specific test. ICP-MS was used to determine the different elemental levels of copper, lithium, zinc, selenium, strontium, manganese, and magnesium in diabetic and nondiabetic specimens.

Children living with HIV have a higher prevalence of oral diseases, including caries, but the mechanisms underlying this higher prevalence are not well understood. Here, we test the hypothesis that HIV infection is associated with a more cariogenic oral microbiome, characterized by an increase in bacteria involved in the pathogenesis of caries. We present data generated from supragingival plaques collected from 484 children representing three exposure groups: (i) children living with HIV (HI), (ii) children who were perinatally exposed but uninfected (HEU), and (iii) unexposed and therefore uninfected children (HUU).

This work resulted in a new combined document, the Curricular Outcomes and Entrustable Professional Activities (COEPA) that was unanimously approved by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Board of Directors and was published in the Journal. The AAC was also charged with providing stakeholders with guidance about how to use the new COEPA document.

Emotional intelligence and professional identity formation (PIF) intersect at various levels. Professional identity formation requires acute observation of others in the profession and the ability to decipher intentionality in behaviors. The developing pharmacist must make a deliberate effort to emulate positive norms and values that coincide with those associated with the profession while deliberately ignoring those that are incongruent.

Osteoarthritis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ OA) is the most common disorder of the TMJ. A clinical decision support (CDS) system designed to detect TMJ OA could function as a useful screening tool as part of regular check-ups to detect early onset. This study implements a CDS concept model based on Random Forest and dubbed RF to predict TMJ OA with the hypothesis that a model which leverages high-resolution radiological and biomarker data in training only can improve predictions compared with a baseline model which does not use privileged information.

Dental academics provide a fulfilling career path to educate the next generation of oral health professionals. The number of dentists choosing a career in dental academics is declining and existing faculty are opting for other career options. As the number of dental schools increase across the US, a critical shortage of educators may be evidenced.

Background: The efficacy of mandibular advancement devices (MAD) and maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) in improving upper airway (UA) patency has been described as being comparable to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) outcomes. However, no previous study has compared MAD and MMA treatment outcomes for the upper airway enlargement. This study aimed to evaluate three-dimensionally the UA changes and mandibular rotation in patients after MAD compared to MMA.

Purpose Of Review: Postoperative pain (POP) is among the most unpleasant experiences that patients face after surgery. Interest in and use of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists for the management of POP has increased over the years with ketamine being the most popular drug of this class.
Recent Findings: Several randomized controlled trials found that the use of ketamine either alone or in combination with other medications leads to decreased postoperative pain and opioid consumption.

Objectives: Periodontitis disproportionately affects different racial and ethnic populations. We have previously reported the higher levels of and lower ratios of to may contribute to periodontal health disparities. This prospective cohort study was designed to investigate if ethnic/racial groups responded differently to non-surgical periodontal treatment and if the treatment outcomes correlated to the bacterial distribution in patients with periodontitis before treatment.

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and D-dopachrome tautomerase (D-DT or MIF-2) are two proteins serving a key role in the pathogenesis of multiple disorders, including cancer. Here, we present a protocol for the purification and enzymatic characterization of MIF and D-DT using keto-enol tautomerase activity. This approach measures enzymatic activity through the formation of an enol-borate complex.

Until now, the term "advocacy" in pharmacy education and practice has focused on advocating for the advancement of the pharmacy profession or patient advocacy. With the 2022 Curricular Outcomes and Entrustable Professional Activities publication, the focus of advocacy has broadened to include advocacy for other causes that impact the health of patients. This commentary will highlight 3 pharmacy-focused organizations advocating for social issues impacting the health of patients as well as encourage members of the Academy to continue to expand personal social advocacy efforts.

Quorum sensing (QS) is a means of bacterial communication accomplished by microbe-produced signals and sensory systems. QS systems regulate important population-wide behaviors in bacteria, including secondary metabolite production, swarming motility, and bioluminescence. The human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes (group A Streptococcus [GAS]) utilizes Rgg-SHP QS systems to regulate biofilm formation, protease production, and activation of cryptic competence pathways.
