Ideological diversity of media consumption predicts COVID-19 vaccination.

This study examines the relationship between respondents' vaccine hesitancy, reported media consumption patterns, ideological leanings, and trust in science. A large-scale survey conducted in the US in 2022 (N = 1,646) assessed self-reported COVID-19 vaccination, trust in science, and reported media consumption. Findings show that, regardless of personal ideology, individuals who consumed less conservative media and had a more ideologically diverse media diet were more likely to be fully vaccinated and boosted.

Introduction: During the first waves of COVID-19 in 2020, the public was confined to their homes due to closure instructions that applied to gatherings, celebrations, and restaurants, as well as voluntary self-isolation for fear of contagion. This seclusion affected, among other things, pre-hospital emergency medical services (EMS), which experienced a general decrease in their activity for trauma cases and routine medical problems. The concentration of zinc ions in semen is significantly correlated with sperm viability and male fertility. In this work, a reliable ratiometric fluorescence probe (ZIF-9-TCPP) based on the efficient Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) process between two luminophores, benzimidazole (BIM) and -tetra (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (TCPP) for Zn detection has been constructed, where the emissions of BIM and TCPP are used as reference and detection signals. The proximity of BIM and TCPP in one framework (ZIF-9-TCPP) and the overlapped spectra between BIM and TCPP afford the attainment of a highly efficient FRET (around 90% efficiency).

Ecosystem transplant from a healthy reef boosts coral health at a degraded reef.

Organismal communities associated with coral reefs, particularly invertebrates and microbes, play crucial roles in ecosystem maintenance and coral health. Here, we characterized the organismal composition of a healthy, non-urbanized reef (Site A) and a degraded, urbanized reef (Site B) in the Gulf of Eilat/Aqaba, Red Sea to assess its impact on coral health and physiology. Biomimetically designed terracotta tiles were conditioned for 6 months at both sites, then reciprocally transplanted, and scleractinian coral species, Acropora eurystoma and Stylophora pistillata, were attached for an additional 6 months.

Self-criticism, maternal emotional distress, and maternal hostility among Bedouin mothers with preterm infants.

This study examined the links between maternal self-criticism, maternal postpartum emotional distress (PPED), and maternal non-hostility among Arab-Bedouin mothers living in southern Israel. We proposed a moderated mediation model in which self-criticism would be related to PPED, which, in turn would be related to maternal non-hostility. One hundred five Arab-Bedouin mothers and their preterm (n = 48) and full-term (n = 57) infants were recruited shortly after birth and were followed up when infants were 6 months old (corrected for prematurity).

Surface Magnetic Stabilization and the Photoemission Chiral-Induced Spin-Selectivity Effect.

The spinterface mechanism was suggested as a possible origin for the chirality-induced spin-selectivity (CISS) effect and was used to explain and reproduce, with remarkable accuracy, experimental data from transport experiments showing the CISS effect. Here, we apply the spinterface mechanism to explain the appearance of magnetization at the interface between nonmagnetic metals and chiral molecules, through the stabilization of otherwise fluctuating magnetic moments. We show that the stabilization of surface magnetic moments occurs for a wide range of realistic parameters and is robust against dephasing.
