Unlabelled: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) poses a significant challenge as the most common late morbidity of preterm infants. This study aimed to evaluate airway abnormalities in infants with BPD who underwent flexible bronchoscopy (FB) to gain insights into the prevalence of upper airway obstruction and associated complications. A retrospective case-control study was conducted on BPD patients who underwent FB at a tertiary center between 2013 and 2023.

Previous psycholinguistic findings showed that linguistic framing - such as the use of passive voice - influences the level of agency attributed to other people. To investigate whether passive voice use relates to people's personal sense of agency, we conducted three studies in which we analyzed existing experimental and observational data. In Study 1 (N = 835) we show that sense of personal agency, operationalized between participants as recalling instances of having more or less power over others, affects the use of agentive language.

Introduction: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) encompass various conditions affecting the temporomandibular joint and surrounding structures, often presenting with pain, limited movement, and functional impairments. TMDs may affect kissing and oral sex, in addition to influencing sexual function, as any other chronic pain condition.
Objective: The study sought to examine the connection between TMDs and sexual function.

Background & Aims: Unaffected first-degree relatives (FDRs) from families with ≥2 affected FDRs with Crohn's disease (CD, multiplex families) have a high risk of developing CD, although the underlying mechanisms driving this risk are poorly understood. We aimed to identify differences in biomarkers between FDRs from multiplex vs simplex families and investigate the risk of future CD onset accounting for potential confounders.
Methods: We assessed the Crohn's and Colitis Canada Genetic Environmental Microbial cohort of healthy FDRs of patients with CD.

Objective: The identification of factors associated with successful rehabilitation after hip fractures enables more successful planning of the rehabilitation process and discharge from the hospital. Orthostatic hypotension (OH) and handgrip strength (HGS) have been evaluated in previous studies as potential predictors of rehabilitation outcomes, with inconsistent results.
Design: A retrospective study of patients 65 years of age and above who underwent rehabilitation after surgical repair of hip fracture in the Geriatric Department between July 2020 and October 2023.

Many bacteria possess proteasomes and a tagging system that is functionally analogous to the ubiquitin system. In this system, Pup, the tagging protein, marks protein targets for proteasomal degradation. Despite the analogy to the ubiquitin system, where the ubiquitin tag is recycled, it remained unclear whether Pup is similarly recycled, given how the bacterial proteasome does not include a depupylase.

We highlight the contribution of notable Jewish women in American dermatology. Although not intended to be a thorough listing, we selected nine representatives as examples of early pioneer women in American dermatology and research and those who were political leaders, authors and journal editors, and teachers and role models. All struggled to overcome professional barriers to women in medicine; many experienced antisemitism, especially those who were forced to flee Nazi Germany.

The supercapacitor-diode (CAPode) is a device that integrates the functionality of an ionic diode with that of a conventional supercapacitor. The unique combination of energy storage and rectification properties in CAPodes is relevant for iontronics, alternate current rectifiers, logic operations, grid stabilization, and even biomedical applications. Here, we propose a novel aqueous-phase supercapattery-diode with excellent energy storage [total specific capacity () = 162 C g, energy density = 34 W h kg at 1.

Background: Advances in medicine have enabled more patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) to become pregnant. However, these patients face significant challenges during the peripartum period. Current peripartum anesthesia guidelines for CHD patients mainly rely on case reports and small series.

Large language models (LLMs) have significantly impacted various fields with their ability to understand and generate human-like text. This study explores the potential benefits and limitations of integrating LLMs, such as ChatGPT, into haematology practices. Utilizing systematic review methodologies, we analysed studies published after 1 December 2022, from databases like PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus, and assessing each for bias with the QUADAS-2 tool.

Background: Malnutrition in the elderly places a significant burden on healthcare, social, and aged-care systems, yet it often remains undiagnosed and untreated. This study aims to evaluate family physicians' knowledge and attitudes towards the diagnosis and treatment of malnutrition in the elderly.
Methods: Based on a literature review, an online questionnaire was developed, comprised of seven knowledge-related items and eight attitude-related questions regarding malnutrition in elderly populations.

Objective: To examine the association between quantitative vascular parameters extracted from intravenous fluorescein angiography (IVFA) and baseline clinical characteristics of patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO).
Methods: Our prospective single-centre study in Toronto, Canada, recruited patients with a diagnosis of macular edema secondary to RVO presenting with a central macular thickness (CMT) ≥310 μm from 2017 to 2023. IVFA images were captured using an ultra-widefield scanning laser ophthalmoscope and processed using the artificial intelligence-based RETICAD system to extract quantitative measurements of blood flow, perfusion, and blood-retinal barrier (BRB) permeability.

Unlabelled: Computational methods have been established as cornerstones in optical imaging and holography in recent years. Every year, the dependence of optical imaging and holography on computational methods is increasing significantly to the extent that optical methods and components are being completely and efficiently replaced with computational methods at low cost. This roadmap reviews the current scenario in four major areas namely incoherent digital holography, quantitative phase imaging, imaging through scattering layers, and super-resolution imaging.

Purpose: Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to experiencing mental health difficulties, especially anxiety. Anxiety in pregnancy can be characterized as having two components: general symptomology experienced in the general population, and pregnancy-related anxiety more focused on pregnancy, delivery, and the future child. In addition, women also commonly report experiencing attentional control and self-regulation difficulties across the peripartum period.

Purpose: In some cases of prenatal genetic testing, an ample amount of fetal DNA is needed, to allow for parallel testing (conducting several genetic tests simultaneously). This study investigated the association between amniotic fluid DNA concentration and various factors. We aimed to define the required amount of amniotic fluid to be extracted in amniocentesis, to allow parallel testing throughout gestational weeks.
