Background: Sacubitril/valsartan, an angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI), is an established treatment for heart failure (HF) with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction. It has not been rigorously compared with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors in children. PANORAMA-HF (Prospective Trial to Assess the Angiotensin Receptor Blocker Neprilysin Inhibitor LCZ696 Versus Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor for the Medical Treatment of Pediatric HF) is a randomized, double-blind trial that evaluated the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), safety, and efficacy of sacubitril/valsartan versus enalapril in children 1 month to <18 years of age with HF attributable to systemic left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD).

Purpose: To identify factors predicting slow visual recovery following photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).
Methods: This retrospective study included consecutive patients who underwent PRK between January 2005 and December 2019 at Care Vision Laser Center, Tel Aviv, Israel. Myopic patients were divided into 2 groups according to whether they experienced normal recovery of visual acuity (within 60 days) or slow visual recovery (>60 days).

Integration into postsecondary education (PSE) promotes social mobility. However, young women who use social welfare services and face situations of risk and adversity encounter various barriers on their path to pursuing PSE. This study, based on social cognitive career theory and intersectionality theory, proposed a comprehensive model using risk and protective factors to predict perceived educational barriers for service-using young women not enrolled in PSE.

Studies determining protein-protein interactions (PPIs) by deep mutational scanning have focused mainly on a narrow range of affinities within complexes and thus include only partial coverage of the mutation space of given proteins. By inserting an affinity-reducing N-terminal alanine in the N-terminal domain of the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-2 (N-TIMP2), we overcame the limitation of its narrow affinity range for matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9). We trained deep neural networks (DNNs) to quantitatively predict the binding affinity of unobserved wild-type variants and variants carrying an N-terminal alanine.

The incidence of diseases caused by pathogens transmitted by the tick vary over time and space through incompletely understood mechanisms. An important determinant of the disease risk is the density of infected ticks, which is the infection prevalence times the density of questing ticks. We therefore investigated the spatial and temporal variation of four pathogens and one of the most abundant symbionts in in questing nymphs over four years of monthly collections in 12 locations in the Netherlands.

The role of quantum tunnelling (QT) in the proton transfer kinetics of the uranyl tetrahydroxide (UTH, [UO(OH)]) to isomerization was computationally studied under three possible reaction pathways. The first pathway involved a direct proton transfer from the hydroxide ligand to the oxo atom. In the other two pathways, one or two water molecules were added to the second sphere.

The study sought to examine the content and processes that characterize the lived experiences of parents of children with disabilities as service users. The study employed a qualitative approach, utilizing the photovoice methodology to explore formative experiences derived from participants' lived experiences. A total of 24 participants were interviewed; 19 were parents of children with autism and five were parents of children with other disabilities.

A diiodo ruthenium olefin metathesis pre-catalyst was employed to achieve remarkably selective cross-metathesis reactions of prenylated 1,6-dienes, effectively overcoming the entropically favored intramolecular ring-closing metathesis. This reaction was investigated using Density Functional Theory (DFT) computations and fine-tuned through the application of a Design of Experiments (DoE) approach. The potential of this innovative process was demonstrated through the unprecedented functionalization of various terpene natural products via cross-metathesis, resulting in the synthesis of new derivatives in a single step.

Background: In-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) still has a poor prognosis despite medical advancements in recent decades. Early and high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), as well as good teamwork, are important prognostic factors. There are no clear guidelines regarding the composition of a dedicated hospital CPR team.

Tailocins are phage tail-like bacteriocins produced by various bacterial species to kill kin competitors. Given that tailocin release is dependent upon cell lysis, regulation of tailocin production at the single-cell and population level remains unclear. Here we used flow cytometry, competition assays and structural characterization of tailocin production in a human bacterial pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes.

1,1,1-trichloroethane (TCA) is a chlorinated aliphatic compound that was increasingly applied as a replacement for trichloroethylene. TCA can simultaneously follow two abiotic degradation processes: hydrolysis and dehydrochlorination, where the latter lead to the formation of a relatively recalcitrant product 1,1-dichloroethylene (DCE). The abiotic processes are relatively rapid and can be assessed based on the ratio between TCA and DCE.

Fibromyalgia is a common musculoskeletal condition that affects up to 3% of the worldwide population. Its pathogenesis is not entirely clear but is thought to involve neurogenic inflammation as well as aberrations in peripheral nerves and central pain mechanisms. It is believed that the same mechanism that causes hypersensitivity and pain in patients with fibromyalgia also predisposes them to pruritus.

Introduction: Vitiligo is a skin disease affecting melanocytes, characterised by the development of depigmented skin lesions.
Methods: We used bibliometric analysis (BA) to identify high-quality research articles on vitiligo using criteria such as total citations, annual citations (AC) and journal impact factors. We extracted the 100 most-cited articles on vitiligo using the Web of Science database and analysed the results using Microsoft Excel 2019.
