Gold nanoparticles (AuNP) are known to aggregate on the surface of lipid vesicles, yet the molecular mechanism behind this phenomenom remains unclear. In this work, we have investigated the binding behaviour of AuNPs, synthesized with pulsed laser ablation, to phospholipid vesicles under varying conditions of ionic strength (KCl concentration) and NP to vesicle ratios. Our observations reveal a strong influence of electrolyte concentration on AuNP aggregation mediated by vesicles.

An on-site extraction device is presented consisting of scotch tape modified with concentric domains of micrometric hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) particles surrounded by a ring of nanometric magnetic ones. On the one hand, HLB microparticles are readily available at the surface of the tape, exposed to interact with the target analytes, being responsible for the extraction capacity of the sorptive phase. On the other hand, the presence of magnetic nanoparticles enables the attachment of the modified tape onto a metallic screw via a magnet, which is then coupled to a wireless drill, enabling the stirring of the microextraction device.

A 3D-printed stereolithographic platform for selective biorecognition is designed to enable convective microscale affinity extraction of microcystin-LR (MC-LR) followed by direct solid-phase optosensing exploiting ratiometric front-face fluorescence spectroscopy. For this purpose, a recombinant monoclonal plantibody (recAb) is covalently attached to a 3D-printed structure for sorptive immunoextraction, whereupon the free and unbound primary amino moieties of the recAb are derivatized with a fluorescent probe. Most studies analysing waste generation consider the impact on the resident population; however, in the case of tourist destinations, it is important to differentiate the impact between the local population and tourists. This research separates these two population groups using the stochastic impacts by regression on population, affluence and technology (STIRPAT) model for the case of Ibiza. The results confirm different waste generation patterns in tourist and non-tourist populations depending on the waste type (non-sorted and sorted).
