This study aimed to assess the suitability of Chachafruto flour (CHF) as a stabilizing agent for an oil-in-water emulsion and its impact on the physicochemical properties of the emulsion after spray drying. Emulsions with varying CHF concentrations (2 %, 3 %, and 4 %) were prepared and compared to a control. The results from the creaming index and particle size (emulsion) analyses indicated that the highest emulsion stability was achieved with 4 %CHF, attributed to its protein content (20.

Climate change associated with human activities alters marine ecosystems and causes imbalances and abrupt changes in sea conditions. Scarce freshwater resources for human consumption often prompt the construction of desalination plants, which discharge significant amounts of brine into the sea, potentially elevating salinity levels. Furthermore, global trade together with higher temperature and pollution can facilitate the spread of parasites.

(1) Background: Cold exposure induces metabolic adaptations that can promote health benefits, including increased energy disposal due to lipid mobilization in adipose tissue (AT). This study aims to identify easily measurable biomarkers mirroring the effect of cold exposure on AT. (2) Methods: Transcriptomic analysis was performed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and distinct AT depots of two animal models (ferrets and rats) exposed to cold, and in PBMCs of cold-exposed humans.

Gold nanoparticles (AuNP) are known to aggregate on the surface of lipid vesicles, yet the molecular mechanism behind this phenomenom remains unclear. In this work, we have investigated the binding behaviour of AuNPs, synthesized with pulsed laser ablation, to phospholipid vesicles under varying conditions of ionic strength (KCl concentration) and NP to vesicle ratios. Our observations reveal a strong influence of electrolyte concentration on AuNP aggregation mediated by vesicles.

More than half of the world's rivers dry up periodically, but our understanding of the biological communities in dry riverbeds remains limited. Specifically, the roles of dispersal, environmental filtering and biotic interactions in driving biodiversity in dry rivers are poorly understood. Here, we conduct a large-scale coordinated survey of patterns and drivers of biodiversity in dry riverbeds.

Background: Virtual reality (VR) is a neurosensory experience in which simulated spaces a person has the sensation of being able to function within them. Some patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) receive intravenous biological treatments in an Adult Day Hospital (ADH) regime. VR has been used in some fields of medicine, demonstrating its usefulness in reducing negative symptoms.

Background: The aging process causes anatomical and physiological changes that predispose to the development of late-life depression while reduces the efficacy of classical antidepressants. Novel fast-acting antidepressants such as ketamine might be good candidates to be explored in the context of aging, especially given the lack of previous research on its efficacy for this age period. Thus, the aim of the present study was to characterize ketamine's effects in older rats.

Assessing dietary habits with validated questionnaires is crucial for achieving reliable results in health research. The aim of this study was the development and validation of a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) in an 18-30-year-old Serbian population. A total of 93 participants completed the FFQ and three 24 h dietary recalls (24 hR).

Coastal ecotones can disrupt natural conditions, yielding intricate ecological contexts where salinity plays a variable role. The aim of this study was to assess the salinity effect on three species representatives of semifixed dune (Crucianella maritima, Helianthemum caput-felis and Teucrium dunense). Field data were collected to assess plant cover in semifixed dunes, ecotone with other coastal habitats, and artificial Posidonia oceanica wracks.

An on-site extraction device is presented consisting of scotch tape modified with concentric domains of micrometric hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) particles surrounded by a ring of nanometric magnetic ones. On the one hand, HLB microparticles are readily available at the surface of the tape, exposed to interact with the target analytes, being responsible for the extraction capacity of the sorptive phase. On the other hand, the presence of magnetic nanoparticles enables the attachment of the modified tape onto a metallic screw via a magnet, which is then coupled to a wireless drill, enabling the stirring of the microextraction device.

A 3D-printed stereolithographic platform for selective biorecognition is designed to enable convective microscale affinity extraction of microcystin-LR (MC-LR) followed by direct solid-phase optosensing exploiting ratiometric front-face fluorescence spectroscopy. For this purpose, a recombinant monoclonal plantibody (recAb) is covalently attached to a 3D-printed structure for sorptive immunoextraction, whereupon the free and unbound primary amino moieties of the recAb are derivatized with a fluorescent probe. The fluorophore-recAb-MC-LR laden device is then accommodated in the cuvette holder of a conventional fluorometer without any instrumental modification for the recording of the solid-phase fluorescence emission.

Background: Improvements in standard precaution related to infection prevention and control (IPC) at the national and local-level health facilities (HFs) are critical to ensuring patient's safety, preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), mitigating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), protecting health workers, and improving trust in HFs. This study aimed to assess HF's readiness to implement standard precautions for IPC in Nepal.
Methods: This study conducted a secondary analysis of the nationally-representative Nepal Health Facility Survey (NHFS) 2021 data and used the Service Availability and Readiness Assessment (SARA) Manual from the World Health Organization (WHO) to examine the HF's readiness to implement standard precautions for IPC.

Background: Cardiac rehabilitation is fundamental among patients recovering from a coronary event, and mHealth technology may constitute a useful tool that provides guidelines based on scientific evidence in an entertaining, attractive, and user-friendly format.
Objective: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of an mHealth intervention involving the eMOTIVA app and that of usual care regarding compliance with cardiac rehabilitation guidelines in terms of lifestyle, cardiovascular risk factors, and satisfaction among patients with acute coronary syndrome.
Methods: A randomized controlled clinical trial with a parallel group design was conducted.
Genetic diversity is an important biological trait for a successful invasion. During the expansion across a new territory, an invasive species may face unprecedented ecological conditions that will determine its demography and genetic diversity. The first record of the yellow-legged hornet () in Europe dates back to 2004 in France, from where it has successfully spread through a large territory in the continent, including Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Emotional intelligence is considered as an important factor impacting on sports motivation of students-athletes. Meanwhile the role of culture in the development of emotional intelligence is still insufficiently studied in sports psychology. The purpose of the study included comparing the indicators of emotional intelligence of student-athletes in China and Russia, identifying the relationship between emotional intelligence, sports motivation and physical activity, as well as studying the prognostic effect of emotional intelligence on autonomous motivation.

Most studies analysing waste generation consider the impact on the resident population; however, in the case of tourist destinations, it is important to differentiate the impact between the local population and tourists. This research separates these two population groups using the stochastic impacts by regression on population, affluence and technology (STIRPAT) model for the case of Ibiza. The results confirm different waste generation patterns in tourist and non-tourist populations depending on the waste type (non-sorted and sorted).
