Retrospective analysis of nasal soft tissue profile changes with maxillary surgery.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the changes in the position of the nasal and labial soft tissue profile of patients undergoing bimaxillary orthognathic surgery, with special emphasis on the effect on the nasal tip projection.

Materials And Methods: The lateral cephalometric radiographs of 27 consecutive patients (16 female and 11 male patients; mean age, 22 years) who had undergone maxillary advancement and mandibular setback were studied. The pretreatment and end-of-treatment lateral cephalometric radiographs were selected.

Evidence of oxidative and antioxidative responses by Galleria mellonella larvae to malathion.

Antioxidant defense components protect insects by scavenging reactive oxygen species, leading to oxidative stress. I therefore investigated the effects of an organophosphorous insecticide, malathion, on superoxide dismutase (SOD) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities as well as glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content as oxidative stress biomarkers in whole body of greater wax moth, Galleria mellonella (L.), larvae.

Further evidence for the role of nitric oxide in maternal aggression: effects of L-NAME on maternal aggression towards female intruders in Wistar rats.

It has been shown that nitric oxide (NO) increases aggression in male mice, whereas it decreases aggression in lactating female mice and prairie voles. It is also known that aggression can be exhibited at different levels in rodent species, strain or subtypes. The aims of this study were to investigate the proportion of aggressiveness in Wistar rats, the effect of intraperitoneally administered nonspecific nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor L-NAME (NG-nitro L-arginine methyl ester) on maternal aggression towards female intruders, and whether these effects are due to NO production or not.

Influence of soil compaction on microfungal community structure in two soil types in Bartin Province, Turkey.

Soil compaction negatively influences physical properties of soil (bulk density and pore space), and may consequently limit soil microfungi, which are significant for nutrient bioavailability. We measured microfungal community responses to compaction in a sandy loam and a clay loam soil at picnic sites. Soil bulk density increased significantly in the compacted samples.

Asymptomatic Brucella bacteraemia and isolation of Brucella melitensis biovar 3 from human breast milk.

Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease and virtually all infections derived from exposure to animals or ingestion of unpasteurized dairy products. Brucellosis among family members has been reported. However, screening household members of an index case of acute brucellosis is not a routine procedure.

Improving operational planning and management of national parks in Turkey: a case study.

The purpose this study was to improve operational planning and management of national parks in Turkey to balance conservation use and sustainable management. Soguksu National Park (SNP) was chosen as the study area. The data were obtained from interviews of 182 visitor groups (in total, 819 people) and analyzed using correlation, factor, discriminant, and regression analyses.

A prospective randomized study comparing perioperative outcome variables after epidural or general anesthesia for lumbar disc surgery.

General and regional anesthesia (spinal and epidural) can be performed successfully for lumbar disc surgery. The aim of this study was to assess the superiority of general anesthesia or epidural anesthesia techniques in lumbar laminectomy and discectomy. Sixty patients undergoing lumbar partial hemilaminectomy and discectomy were randomly divided into two groups receiving standardized general anesthesia (GA) or epidural anesthesia (EA).
