The focus on energy efficiency to move towards a more sustainable use of resources has intensified efforts to minimize friction and wear in mechanical systems, which account for 23% of the world's energy consumption. In this study, polyoxometalate ionic liquids (POM-ILs) are introduced as environmentally acceptable lubricant additives, for their potential friction-reducing and anti-wear (AW) properties. These compounds, characterized by their complex structures and tunable properties, have been investigated for their tribological performance across base fluids of varying polarities.

This study examines the impact of cytogenetic abnormalities and their co-segregation on the prognosis of newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients. The analysis included 1304 patients from four different GEM-PETHEMA clinical trials. Genetic alterations, such as t(4;14), t(14;16), del(17p), +1q, and del(1p), were investigated using FISH on CD38 purified plasma cells.

The success rate of assisted reproductive techniques in the livestock production can be optimized by improving the quality of the semen sample by selecting only the good quality sperm from the ejaculate. Microfluidic technology has been studied for sperm sorting mainly in human ejaculates but has not been studied for boar sperm. Spermatozoa have been proven to be highly sensitive to different microplastics, but the potential toxic effects of the materials used to set up microfluidic systems have not been studied.

A collection of magnetic nanoparticles with average particle sizes in the range between 9 and 78 nm were prepared using several synthetic approaches that also provided different particle morphologies (spherical, octahedral and flowers). Some of these particles were also subsequently coated with different molecules in order to generate a set of materials that allowed us to evaluate the impact that the particle size, shape and coating had on the heating capacity of the nanoparticles when exposed to near infrared (NIR) laser light. Moreover, one of the prepared materials (octahedral particles of ∼32 nm coated with dextran) was used to perform an assay to study the possible use of this material in the frame of photothermal treatments to trigger cell death.

Background: There are conflicting studies reporting both an increase and a decrease in vitamin B12 (VB12) levels in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). In this study, we aimed to dissect the effects of steatosis and fibrosis on VB12.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study including all patients with a vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE) performed at the Hospital Miguel Servet (Zaragoza, Spain) between 2019 and 2022 for a chronic liver disease and having a recent blood test for VB12 levels.

Asymptomatic IgM gammopathy encompasses IgM monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) and asymptomatic Waldenström macroglobulinemia (AWM), both having a risk of progression to symptomatic disease. Here, we assessed the risk of progression and the mortality of 956 patients with asymptomatic IgM gammopathy across 25 Spanish centers. After a median follow-up of 5.

Developing controlled and reproducible molecular assemblies incorporating lanthanide centers is a crucial step for driving forward up- and down-conversion processes. This challenge calls for the development of strategies to facilitate the efficient segregation of different Ln metal ions into distinct positions within the molecule. The unique family of pure [LnLn'Ln] heterometallic coordination compounds previously developed by us represents an ideal platform for studying the desired Ln-to-Ln' energy transfer (ET).

Introduction: Human growth hormone (hGH) therapy in children can be administered by subcutaneous injection using either a manual non-connected device, which is a portable injection pen loaded with a pre-filled cartridge, or an electronic connected device. The electronic device is connected to a platform where adherence data is recorded and available for health care professionals (HCPs) and patient support programs. Real-world data used in the clinic, includes regular monitoring of adherence data which are shared with families during patients' visits and aim to determine the root causes of poor adherence.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the long-term effects of a programme called Ser Mayor, un RETO («Being Older, a Challenge») aimed at improving quality of life in older adults over 60 living in the community.
Methods: This programme used co-design principles to create sustainable opportunities to improve quality of life, connecting with the community, and empowering older adults to take responsibility for their own health. Ser Mayor, un RETO was based on Bronfenbrenner's bio-social-ecological perspective and the health assets model.

Antiviral compounds are crucial to controlling the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Approved drugs have been tested for their efficacy against COVID-19, and new pharmaceuticals are being developed as a complementary tool to vaccines. In this work, a cheap and fast purification method for natural tyrosinase from (AbTyr) fresh mushrooms was developed to evaluate the potential of this enzyme as a therapeutic protein the inhibition of SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro protease activity .

This work provides a comprehensive characterization of porcine myocardial tissue, combining true biaxial (TBx), simple triaxial shear (STS) and confined compression (CC) tests to analyze its elastic behavior under cyclic loads. We expanded this study to different zones of the ventricular free wall, providing insights into the local behavior along the longitudinal and radial coordinates. The aging impact was also assessed by comparing two age groups (4 and 8 months).

Ditopic bis-pyrazolylpyridine ligands usually react with divalent metal ions (M) to produce dinuclear triple-stranded helicates [ML] or, π⋯π interactions, dimers of monoatomic complexes ([ML]). The introduction of an additional benzene ring at each end of ligand L increases the number of aromatic contacts within the supramolecular aggregate by 40%, driving the self-recognition process in an irreversible manner. Consequently, the mixing of new bis-pyrazolylquinoline L2 with FeX salts leads to crystallization of the tripartite high-spin assemblies (X@[Fe(L2)]) (X = Cl, Br or I).

The quest for nanomaterial-based imaging probes that can provide positive contrast in MRI is fueled by the necessity of developing novel diagnostic applications with potential for clinical translation that current gold standard probes cannot provide. Although interest in nanomaterials for positive contrast has increased in recent years, their study is less developed than that of traditional negative contrast probes in MRI. In our search for new magnetic materials with enhanced features as positive contrast probes for MRI, we decided to explore the chemical space to comprehensively analyze the effects of different metals on the performance of iron oxide nanomaterials already able to provide positive contrast in MRI.
