Background: BK polyomavirus-associated nephropathy (BKPyVAN) is an important cause of allograft dysfunction and failure in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) and there are no proven effective treatments. Case reports and in vitro data support the potential activity of cidofovir against BK polyomavirus (BKPyV).
Methods: We report the results of a phase I/II, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized dose-escalation trial of cidofovir in KTRs with biopsy-confirmed BKPyVAN and estimated glomerular filtration rate ≥30 mL/min.
Simulation training plays a vital role in modern medical education, fostering safe skill development. Task-trainer manikin and cadaveric airway management training (CAMT) offer realistic airway management practice. Simulation allows learners the opportunity to manage high-risk, low-frequency scenarios, including difficult airways and massive airway contamination, common in emergent airway management.

Hemogenic endothelium (HE) is the main source of blood cells in the embryo. To improve blood manufacturing from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), it is essential to define the molecular determinants that enhance HE specification and promote development of the desired blood lineage from HE. Here, using SOX18-inducible hPSCs, we revealed that SOX18 forced expression at the mesodermal stage, in contrast to its homolog SOX17, has minimal effects on arterial specification of HE, expression of HOXA genes and lymphoid differentiation.

Introduction: The goal of this pilot study is to determine if ferumoxytol-enhanced MR might provide a new approach to the diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), and if so, to identify signs of PAS.
Methods: Ten pregnant women were referred for MRI evaluation for PAS. MR studies consisted of pre-contrast SSFSE, SSFP, DWI, and ferumoxytol-enhanced sequences.

Purpose: To elucidate ultrasound features of normal placental anatomy through correlation of gray-scale and ultrasound Doppler with ferumoxytol-enhanced MRI features using US-MR image fusion.
Methods: All patients referred to MR for ultrasound findings worrisome for PAS (placenta accreta spectrum) were included in this retrospective study. MR studies included a ferumoxytol-enhanced T1-weighted MRI.

Endothelial-to-hematopoietic transition (EHT) is a unique morphogenic event in which flat, adherent hemogenic endothelial (HE) cells acquire round, non-adherent blood cell morphology. Investigating the mechanisms of EHT is critical for understanding the development of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and the entirety of the adult immune system, and advancing technologies for manufacturing blood cells from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs). Here we describe a protocol to (a) generate and isolate subsets of HE from hPSCs, (b) assess EHT and hematopoietic potential of HE subsets in bulk cultures and at the single-cell level, and (c) evaluate the role of NOTCH signaling during HE specification and EHT.

Administration of ex vivo expanded somatic myeloid progenitors has been explored as a way to facilitate a more rapid myeloid recovery and improve overall survival after myeloablation. Recent advances in induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technologies have created alternative platforms for supplying off-the-shelf immunologically compatible myeloid progenitors, including cellular products derived from major histocompatibility complex (MHC) homozygous superdonors, potentially increasing the availability of MHC-matching cells and maximizing the utility of stem cell banking. However, the teratogenic and tumorigenic potential of iPSC-derived progenitor cells and whether they will induce alloreactive antibodies upon transfer remain unclear.

SignificanceGeckos are lizards capable of vocalization and can detect frequencies up to 5 kHz, but the mechanism of frequency discrimination is incompletely understood. The gecko's auditory papilla has a unique arrangement over the high-frequency zone, with rows of mechanically sensitive hair bundles covered with gelatinous sallets. Lower-frequency hair cells are tuned by an electrical resonance employing Ca-activated K channels, but hair cells tuned above 1 kHz probably rely on a mechanical resonance of the sallets.

Objective: To demonstrate discrepancies between operative times in the ACS NSQIP (American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Project) and self-reported operative time from the American Medical Association's Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) and their effect on relative value units (RVU) determination.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional review of registry data using the ACS NSQIP 2016 Participant User File and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services physician procedure time file for 2018. We analyzed total RVUs for surgeries by operative time to calculate RVU per hour and stratified by specialty.

Purpose: We prospectively evaluated the feasibility of SPECT-CT/planar organ dosimetry-based radiation dose escalation radioimmunotherapy in patients with recurrent non-Hodgkin's lymphoma using the theranostic pair of In and Y anti-CD20 ibritumomab tiuxetan (Zevalin) at myeloablative radiation-absorbed doses with autologous stem cell support. We also assessed acute non-hematopoietic toxicity and early tumor response in this two-center outpatient study.
Methods: 24 patients with CD20-positive relapsed or refractory rituximab-sensitive, low-grade, mantle cell, or diffuse large-cell NHL, with normal organ function, platelet counts > 75,000/mm, and <35% tumor involvement in the marrow were treated with Rituximab (375 mg/m) weekly for 4 consecutive weeks, then one dose of cyclophosphamide 2.
