Background: Urinary retention in obstructed male cats leads to changes in blood and urine compounds, which, combined with the time of obstruction, are linked to the worsening of the animal's clinical status.
Aim: This study aimed to describe the primary laboratory changes in male cats with urethral obstruction (UO).
Methods: Medical records of 386 male cats diagnosed with UO and treated at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics (FMVZ), UNESP-Botucatu, between 2010 and 2020 were reviewed.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate if dental atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) impacts salivary total protein and redox biomarkers in children with caries.
Methods: The study included 30 children (aged 4 to 6 years) with caries on posterior deciduous teeth, classified by ICCMS, attending a basic education school. Participants were divided into enamel (n = 15) and dentin (n = 15) lesion groups.

Bacterial peritonitis infections comprise a life-threatening clinical condition in domestic animals that commonly lead to sepsis and high mortality. A set of bacterial pathogens have been identified in septic peritonitis in livestock and companion animals. Nonetheless, most descriptions are restricted to case reports or limited to only one domestic species, and a restrict number of comprehensive studies involving this infection has focused on a great number of domestic animals.

This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of performing multiple testicular biopsies in rams using Tru-cut® needles, assessing histological structure, gene expression, and potential complications such as effects on semen quality, testicular blood flow, and ultrasonographic echotexture. In Exp. 1, six mature rams underwent testicular biopsies at intervals (0, 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h) using a 16 G Tru-cut® needle, with alternating testes for each collection.

We investigated whether exogenous pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) enhances the antioxidant role of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in bovine in vitro embryo production (IVP). We performed standard in vitro maturation (IVM) and in vitro culture (IVC) or added menadione to promote an oxidative stressed microenvironment and evaluated the antioxidant effect of IGF-1 alone or in combination with PAPP-A (IGF-1/PAPP-A). In IVM, the treatments did not affect oocyte nuclear development, total GSH content, cumulus cell gene expression, and blastocyst yield.

Background: Brazil has a high prevalence of toxoplasmosis. However, there is a gap in comparing seroprevalence for across different environments, particularly among pregnant residents of rural and urban areas.
Methods: The prevalence of IgG and IgM for was compared among pregnant residents of the urban, peri-urban, and rural settlement areas in a municipality in southeastern Brazil.

Although and may colonize tonsillar tissues, the interaction between them in mixed biofilms has been poorly explored. This study established an interkingdom biofilm model of and and verified the dose-response validation of antimicrobials. Biofilms were formed on microplates, in the presence or absence of a conditioning layer of human saliva, using Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) broth or artificial saliva (AS) as a culture medium, and with variations in the microorganism inoculation sequence.

The use of routine imaging for patients with low back pain is the main example of inappropriate care. Therefore, understanding the perceptions of medical doctors and patients from Brazil about this practice may help propose strategies to reduce imaging rates.

Close contact between cats and humans increases the risk of transmission of zoonotic pathogens, through bites and scratches due to the complexity of microorganisms in the oral and nail microbiotas of felines. This study investigated the presence of bacteria and fungi in the oral cavity and claws of 100 apparently healthy cats using conventional and selective microbiological culture media, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) and mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). Furthermore, antimicrobial susceptibility testing of bacteria isolates was performed by disc diffusion method.

Melasma is a skin pigmentation disorder that lacks consistent treatment success, despite various methods used. Tranexamic acid (TXA) has shown hypopigmentation properties, but whether its administration should be combined with standard treatment has yet to be clarified. We aimed to perform an investigation of the effectiveness and safety of oral TXA as an adjuvant to triple combination cream (TCC) treatment in melasma.

Clinical care indicators for low back pain can be used to monitor healthcare practices and consequently be used to evaluate success of strategies to improve care quality. The aim of this study was to identify the clinical care indicators that have been used to measure appropriateness of health care for patients with low back pain. We conducted a systematic search of five electronic databases and Google to identify clinical care indicators that have been used to measure any aspect of care for people with low back pain.

Indigenous health has posted complex challenges worldwide, particularly due to historical economic, territorial, social and environmental processes, which may lead to emergence and reemergence of pathogens. In addition to few Coxiella burnetii serosurveys in vulnerable populations, especially in developing tropical countries, no comprehensive One Health approach has focused on human-animal infection along with potential environmental determinants. Accordingly, this study aimed to assess the seroprevalence of anti-C.

This work assessed the influence of the amount of dentifrice and fluoride (F) concentration in the product on the pH and inorganic components of and dual-species biofilms. The biofilms were treated with suspensions of fluoride dentifrices containing 550 or 1100 ppm of F (550 F or 1100 F, respectively) administered at comparable intensities: (i-1) 550 F/0.08 g or 1100 F/0.

The variability in response to conventional prostate cancer (PC) therapies, coupled with the emergent issue of drug resistance, underscores the critical need for innovative treatment strategies. Aerobic physical exercise reduced incidence of several cancers, but the mechanism underlying these effects associated the nanoemulsion not fully understood. The application of a lipid nanoemulsion (LDE) delivery system for docetaxel (DTX), showing marked enhancement in therapeutic efficacy when combined with aerobic physical exercise.

In this work, we compared the biochemical and toxicological profiles of venoms from an adult female specimen of Lachesis muta rhombeata (South American bushmaster) and her seven offspring born in captivity, based on SDS-PAGE, RP-HPLC, enzymatic, coagulant, and hemorrhagic assays. Although adult and juvenile venoms showed comparable SDS-PAGE profiles, juveniles lacked some chromatographic peaks compared with adult venom. Adult venom had higher proteolytic (caseinolytic) activity than juvenile venoms (p < 0.

Introduction: Despite human toxoplasmosis and toxocariasis having been listed among the top six most neglected parasitic zoonoses worldwide, presenting similar associated risk factors and transmission routes, few studies have been conducted in pregnant women and the consequences of concurrent infection remain to be fully established. Accordingly, the present study has serologically assessed the co-infection and associated risk factors for and spp. in pregnant women, assisted by the public Unified National Health System (SUS) in southeastern Brazil.

The polyspermy occurrence is considerably lower under in vivo compared to in vitro embryo culture conditions, suggesting that the presence of some factors in the maternal environment is responsible for this. The α-L-fucosidase (FUCA) is a natural glycosidase present in the oviductal fluid, therefore, this study aimed at investigating the effect of adding FUCA to the hardening of the zona pellucida (ZP), polyspermy control, and embryonic yield and quality of bovine blastocysts produced in vitro. In the first experiment, the effect of FUCA (0.
