There is an increasing interest in environmental DNA (eDNA) as a method to survey marine biota, enhancing traditional survey methods, and a need to ground truth eDNA-based interpretations with visual surveys to understand biases in both the eDNA and visual datasets. We designed and tested a rapidly deployable, robust method pairing water sampling for eDNA collection and stereo-video imagery, comparing inferred fish assemblages with interspersed baited remote underwater video (stereo-BRUV) samples. The system is capable of rapidly collecting simultaneous wide-field stereo-video imagery, oceanographic measurements and multiple water samples across a range of habitats and depths (up to 600 m).

Background: Adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) are at increased risk of stroke but high-quality population level data on stroke incidence in these patients are scant.

Methods And Results: A retrospective whole-population Western Australian cohort of adult patients with CHD aged 18 to 64 years was created and followed from January 2000 to December 2017 using linked hospital data. Objectives: Sporadic Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) is an inflammatory muscle disease affecting individuals over the age of 45, leading to progressive muscle wasting, disability and loss of independence. Histologically, IBM is characterised by immune changes including myofibres expressing major histocompatibility complex molecules and invaded by CD8 T cells and macrophages, and by degenerative changes including protein aggregates organised in inclusion bodies, rimmed vacuoles and mitochondrial abnormalities. There is currently no cure, and regular exercise is currently the only recognised treatment effective at limiting muscle weakening, atrophy and loss of function.

Historically, bird song complexity was thought to evolve primarily through sexual selection on males; yet, in many species, both sexes sing and selection pressure on both sexes may be broader. Previous research suggests competition for mates and resources during short, synchronous breeding seasons leads to more elaborate male songs at high, temperate latitudes. Furthermore, we expect male-female song structure and elaboration to be more similar at lower, tropical latitudes, where longer breeding seasons and year-round territoriality yield similar social selection pressures in both sexes.

DNA methylation data facilitate the development of accurate molecular estimators of chronological age or "epigenetic clocks." We present a robust epigenetic clock for the beluga whale, , developed for an endangered population in Cook Inlet, Alaska, USA. We describe a case of chronic exudative pleural effusion in a patient initially referred with anorexia, weight loss, and past history of breast cancer, following multiple presentations with chest pain and dyspnoea. Detailed history included past blunt thoracic trauma with pleural effusion drainage and anticoagulation for atrial fibrillation (AF). This case highlights several learning points for physicians around the management of thoracic trauma, anticoagulation for AF, and chronic haemothorax as an uncommon but important cause of exudative pleural effusion.

Although acoustic telemetry can lack the fine-scale spatial resolution of some satellite tracking technologies, the substantially longer battery life can yield important long-term data on individual behavior and movement for low per-unit cost.
