The environmental impact of methane, a greenhouse gas emitted from ruminants, is a pressing issue and methods to control methane emissions from ruminants are being investigated worldwide. In this study, we investigated the effects of the administration of spent coffee grounds (SCG) on methane production in the rumen in two cows. In the control condition (days 1 and 2), the cows were fed a basic diet twice daily (roughage and concentrate), and in the SCG condition (days 1 and 2) sequentially, the cows were fed the same basic diet and administered SCG into the rumen twice daily.

Reproduction traits are important factors determining the efficiency of any sheep production system. This study evaluates the age at first lambing (AFL), lambing interval (LI), litter weight at birth (LBWT), litter weight at weaning (LWWT), birth weight of ewe (EBWT) and weaning weight of ewes (EWWT) in a crossbreeding program between the Red Maasai (RRRR) and Dorper sheep and their crosses, 75% Dorper and 50% Dorper (DDRR) breeds. All the traits significantly (P < 0.

Increasing evidence points to infectious diseases as contributor to the pathogenesis of neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease (PD), probably driven by a peripheral and CNS inflammatory response together with alpha-synuclein (aSyn) pathology. Pro-inflammatory lipopolysaccharide (LPS) endotoxin is suggested as a risk factor, and LPS shedding gram-negative bacteria are more prevalent in the gut-microbiome of PD patients. Here, we investigated whether LPS could contribute to the neurodegenerative disease progression via neuroinflammation, especially under conditions of aSyn pathology.

It has been postulated that 90 % of cats and dogs develop periodontal disease by 1 year of age. Periodontal disease develops because of infection by multiple bacteria, including Porphyromonas gulae (P. gulae) and Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Because individual clinical outcomes of DLBCL in response to standard therapy differ widely, new treatment strategies are being investigated to improve therapeutic efficacy. In this study, we identified a novel signature for stratification of DLBCL useful for prognosis prediction and treatment selection.

Emotional contagion occurs in many animals, including rodents. To determine the social signals of emotional state-matching between individuals in mice, we conducted an empirical laboratory experiment using visual, olfactory and auditory stimuli. The Japanese wild-derived mouse strain MSM/Ms (MSM) was tested as observers, since our initial experiments indicated that MSM mice showed higher sensitivity to others' pain compared with the laboratory strain C57BL/6J (B6).

This paper presents a precursor of a novel, high-throughput, in-line system, which utilizes ultraviolet (UV) imaging in order to predict the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) content of tablets in real-time, non-destructive manner. Pimobendan, cardiovascular drug used in veterinary medicine was chosen as a fluorescent model API. Two experiments were carried out using different measurement setups, where the tablets were moving at different speeds.

Dairy farms in developing countries are key to fighting hunger and poverty. However, their environmental and economic impact in the tropical region of Peru has been scarcely studied. The CLEANED tool, developed by the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, allows us to assess the productive situation and the environmental and economic impact of different dairy systems.

Diseases of the musculature can be caused, for example, by alimentary or traumatic issues. In three bald eagles with painful lameness and/or a reduced range of the hip joint, a muscular disease was diagnosed via radiographic examination. The eagles were kept in a falconry and trained as demonstration birds, which were displayed on a gloved hand and flown in falconry education programs.

Fluorophore-coupled bile acids (BA) represent an important tool for intravital analysis of BA flux in animal models of cholestatic diseases. However, addition of a fluorophore to a BA may alter transport properties. We developed and validated a 4-chloro-7-nitrobenzo-2-oxa-1,3-diazole-coupled taurocholic acid (3β-NBD-TCA) as a probe for intravital analysis of BA homeostasis.

Background: For several decades, the European wildcat (Felis silvestris) has gradually been returning to the forests of Germany, mainly in the central and southwestern regions. To increase the knowledge about this threatened species, the endoparasite status of dead found specimens from Germany was surveyed.
Methods: A total of 118 wildcats were examined for endoparasites in peritoneal organs and skeletal muscles.

Macrocyclic peptides have garnered significant attention as promising drug candidates. However, they typically face challenges in achieving and enhancing cell permeability for access to intracellular targets. In this study, we focused on the screening of macrocyclic peptide inhibitors against the main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 and identified novel noncovalently bound macrocyclic peptides that effectively inhibit proteolytic activity.

Juvenile crossbred pigs are widely used for acute and chronic animal testing due to their anatomical and physiological resemblance to humans. They are particularly prevalent in preclinical cardiovascular research, including studies investigating extracorporeal resuscitation and mechanical circulatory support devices. However, the availability of comprehensive laboratory reference values is limited.

Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have emerged as transformative tools in modern drug delivery, offering unparalleled potential in enhancing the efficacy and safety of various therapeutics. In the context of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a disabling autoimmune disorder characterized by chronic inflammation, joint damage, and limited patient mobility, LNPs hold significant promise for revolutionizing treatment strategies. LNPs offer several advantages over traditional drug delivery systems, including improved pharmacokinetics, enhanced tissue penetration, and reduced systemic toxicity.
