The massive increase in the size of deep neural networks (DNNs) is accompanied by a significant increase in energy consumption of their hardware implementations which is critical for their widespread deployment in low-power mobile devices. In our previous work, an abstract hardware-independent model of energy complexity for convolutional neural networks (CNNs) has been proposed and experimentally validated. Based on this model, we provide a theoretical analysis of energy complexity related to the computation of a fully-connected layer when its inputs, outputs, and weights are transferred between two kinds of memories (DRAM and Buffer).

Action plan for optimizing the design of clinical trials in chronic kidney disease.

Kidney Int Suppl (2011)

October 2017

Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology, Tufts Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

High-quality clinical trials are the cornerstone of evidence-based prevention and treatment of a disease, but nephrology has a strikingly weak base of such trials. Building the evidence base to improve outcomes for people with a kidney disease, therefore, requires both greater quantity and quality of clinical trials. To address these issues, we propose that we aim to enroll 30% of people with chronic kidney disease in trials by 2030.

Action plan for determining and monitoring the prevalence of chronic kidney disease.

Kidney Int Suppl (2011)

October 2017

Department of Internal Medicine, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) continues to remain high globally, up to 13.4% by one estimate. Although the number, geographic distribution, size, and quality of the studies examining CKD prevalence and incidence have increased over the past decade, the global capacity for CKD surveillance is still far less developed than that for hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

November 2014

Inserm U-1088, University of Picardie Jules verne (UPJV), Amiens, France; Division of Nephrology, Ambroise Paré Hospital, Paris-Ile-de-France-Ouest University (University of Versailles Saint Quentin (UVSQ)), Paris-Boulogne Billancourt, France.

Recent insights into novel roles of klotho in vascular biology make this primarily kidney-derived protein a possible candidate to form a link between chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Typical features of vascular dysfunction or structural abnormalities in the arterial wall are exacerbated in klotho-deficient states. Reported klotho functions include inhibition of local phosphate transport in vascular cells, phenotypic switches of vascular cellular elements into bone-forming cells, attenuation of matrix mineralization and calcification, and also preservation of endothelial functional properties and viability.

Hum Reprod

October 2013

Department of Gynecology & O, bstetrics, Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal de Poissy - Saint-Germain, EA 7285, University of Versailles Saint-Quentin (UVSQ), Poissy, France.

Study Question: How do fully-comprehensive patient-centred descriptions of the symptoms of endometriosis compare with the physicians' description of the symptoms?

Summary Answer: The description of the painful symptoms due to endometriosis is based on numerous distinct parameters. The way these are used to describe symptoms and the way they are interpreted varies significantly between patients and clinicians. The descriptions of severe pelvic pain and dysmenorrhoea and dyspareunia by the clinicians were incomplete compared with those of the patients.
