Providing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support interventions (MHPSS) for forcibly displaced Ukrainians in Central and Eastern Europe poses numerous challenges due to various socio-cultural and infrastructural factors. This qualitative study explored implementation barriers reported by service providers of in-person and digital MHPSS for Ukrainian refugees displaced to Poland, Romania and Slovakia due to the war. In addition, the study aimed to generate recommendations to overcome these barriers.

Background And Aims: Presence of active hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection may influence the outcome of patients treated for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), although this issue has never been adequately assessed in a large series of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the presence of active HCV affects the survival of patients treated for HCC.
Methods: This study assessed the outcome of 3123 anti-HCV-positive patients with HCC, subdivided according to the presence of active HCV infection or previous sustained virological response (SVR).

The neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCLs) are incurable pediatric neurodegenerative diseases characterized by accumulation of lysosomal material and dysregulation of autophagy. Given the promising results of treatment with trehalose, an autophagy inducer, in cell and animal models of NCL, we conducted an open-label, non-placebo-controlled, non-randomized 12-month prospective study in NCL patients receiving oral trehalose (4 g/day). All were treated with a commercially available formulation for 6 months, followed by a 6-month washout.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most aggressive and deadly type of cancer, with an extremely low five-year overall survival rate. To date, current treatment options primarily involve various chemotherapies, which often prove ineffective and are associated with substantial toxicity. Furthermore, immunotherapies utilizing checkpoint inhibitors have shown limited efficacy in this context, highlighting an urgent need for novel therapeutic strategies.

Pediatric nephrolithiasis is an ancient and complex disorder that has seen a significant rise in recent decades and the underlying causes contributing to stone formation in children may also be shifting. Historically, kidney stones have been linked to factors such as metabolic disorders, congenital abnormalities, and family history. However, the recent increase in incidence appears to be associated with new risk factors, including changes in lifestyle and diet, the growing prevalence of obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and even climate change.

: While post-acute COVID-19 syndrome is well known and extensively studied, the post-acute COVID vaccination syndrome (PACVS) is a more recent nosological entity that is poorly defined at the immunopathological level, although it shares many symptoms with the sequelae of viral infections. : This single-center retrospective study reports a case series of 17 subjects vaccinated with mRNA or adenoviral vector vaccines who were healthy before vaccination and had never been infected with SARS-CoV-2 but who presented with symptoms similar to PACVS for a median time of 20 months (min 4, max 32). The medical records of all patients referred to our outpatient clinic over a one-year period were retrospectively analyzed.

Background/objectives: microRNAs (miRNAs) and circular RNA (circRNAs) show a close interconnection in the control of fundamental functions, such as cell proliferation and tumor development. A full understanding of this complex and interconnected network is essential for better understanding the mechanisms underlying cancer progression. Hsa_circ_0079593 is a circRNA highly expressed in melanoma and is associated with increased metastasis and progression of malignancy, whereas miR516b-5p is a microRNA whose expression is lower in several tumor types, including melanoma; its overexpression inhibits cell proliferation, migration, and invasion.

Cenobamate is a novel third-generation antiepileptic drug used for the treatment of focal onset seizures and particularly for multi-drug-resistant epilepsy; it acts on multiple targets: GABA receptors (EC 42-194 µM) and persistent neuronal Na currents (IC 59 µM). Side effects include QT interval shortening with >20 ms, but not <300 ms. Our in vitro cardiac safety pharmacology study was performed via whole-cell patch-clamp on HEK293T cells with persistent/inducible expression of human cardiac ion channel isoforms hNav1.

Olive phenolic compounds like hydroxytyrosol (OH-Tyr), tyrosol (Tyr), and their precursors have different health-promoting properties, mainly based on their strong antioxidant capacity. However, their presence in extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) is scarce since they are primarily contained in the by-products of oil production, such as olive pomace (OP). The aim of this work was to extract and encapsulate OP phenolic compounds into chitosan-tripolyphosphate nanoparticles (NPs) using an ionotropic gelation lyophilization approach to increase their resistance to environmental and chemical stress.

Background: Ampullary adenocarcinoma (AAC) typically presents at an early stage due to biliary obstruction and therefore might be specifically suitable for minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomy (MIPD). However, studies assessing MIPD specifically for AAC, including the robotic and laparoscopic approach, are limited. The aim of this study is to compare short- and long-term oncological resection and perioperative outcomes of robotic (RPD), laparoscopic (LPD) and open pancreatoduodenectomy (OPD) performed specifically for AAC.

Advanced urothelial carcinoma (aUC) has a dismal prognosis, with a 5-year survival rate of approximately 10%. Platinum-based chemotherapy has been the backbone of the first-line treatment of aUC for over 40 years. Only in the last decade, the treatment of aUC has evolved and been enriched with new classes of drugs that demonstrated pivotal improvements in terms of oncological responses and, ultimately, survival.

The plant rhizosphere microbiome plays a crucial role in plant growth and health. Within this microbiome, bacteria dominate, exhibiting traits that benefit plants, such as facilitating nutrient acquisition, fixing nitrogen, controlling pathogens, and promoting root growth. This study focuses on designing synthetic bacterial consortia using key bacterial strains which have been mapped and then isolated from the sorghum rhizosphere microbiome.

Cellular and gene therapy (CGT) products have emerged as a popular approach in regenerative medicine, showing promise in treating various pancreatic and liver diseases in numerous clinical trials. Before these therapies can be tested in human clinical trials, it is essential to evaluate their safety and efficacy in relevant animal models. Such preclinical testing is often required to obtain regulatory approval for investigational new drugs.
