Management of a protruding coronary stent into the aortic root in patients undergoing evaluation for transcatheter aortic valve replacement can be challenging. We describe a patient treated with stent trimming and surgical aortic valve replacement, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary evaluation and selection process in this complex scenario.

Purpose: To report the longitudinal outcomes for AZOOR patients including treatment response, imaging evolution, and overlap with multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS).
Methods: Visual acuity (VA) and visual field (VF) outcomes of occult and overt AZOOR patients were retrospectively compared between the first and final visits as well as between the two AZOOR subtypes. For treated patients, rates of VA change and fundus lesion area were compared before and after treatment.

Purpose: In 2013, afatinib was approved for non-small-cell lung cancer with subsequent indication expansion. We investigated published afatinib clinical trials to assess risk and benefit profiles for the drug in its approved indication of non-small-cell lung cancer as well as in off-label uses. Previous literature demonstrates excessive patient burden and limited benefit as afatinib has spread into more indications.

Ring chromosome 14 is a rarely observed chromosomal abnormality characterized by a circular, ring-like appearance in one or both copies of chromosome 14. Ring chromosome 14 syndrome (OMIM #616606) is marked by global developmental delays, drug-resistant epilepsy, microcephaly, and ocular abnormalities. To date, fewer than 100 cases of ring chromosome 14 syndrome have been described in the medical literature.

Objective: Cigarette smoking continues to be a major driver in the incidence and progression of cardiovascular disease (CVD). As females become an increasingly larger fraction of those who smoke it is imperative that the sex-specific effects of smoking be further explored and acted upon.
Methods: This narrative review describes current evidence on the differential effects of smoking on CVD in females and the need to improve treatment.

This randomized controlled trial tested the Family Assessment and Feedback Intervention (FAFI), a new intervention to enhance family engagement with emotional and behavioral health services. The FAFI is a guided conversation with families about results of their multidimensional assessment that is set in the context of motivational enhancement. It differs from other assessment-with-feedback interventions by extending the focus of assessment beyond the target child to parents and the family environment, addressing parental emotional and behavioral problems and competencies, spanning a broad range of children's and parents' strengths and difficulties, and being generalizable to many settings and practitioners.

Previous research indicates varying stroke rates after mitral valve (MV) interventions. This study aimed to compare postprocedural stroke risks after transcatheter and surgical MV interventions. Electronic databases were searched from inception to February 2024 for studies comparing stroke rates after mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (mTEER), surgical MV repair/replacement, or guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT).

In response to a burgeoning pediatric mental health epidemic, recent guidelines have instructed pediatricians to regularly screen their patients for mental health disorders with consistency and standardization. Yet, gold-standard screening surveys to evaluate mental health problems in children typically rely solely on reports given by caregivers, who tend to unintentionally under-report, and in some cases over-report, child symptomology. Digital phenotype screening tools (DPSTs), currently being developed in research settings, may help overcome reporting bias by providing objective measures of physiology and behavior to supplement child mental health screening.

Background: Both parametric and nonparametric methods have been proposed to support model-informed precision dosing (MIPD). However, which approach leads to better models remains uncertain. Using open-source software, these 2 statistical approaches for model development were compared using the pharmacokinetics of vancomycin in a challenging subpopulation of class 3 obesity.

Background: To end the HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) epidemics, people who use drugs (PWUD) need more opportunities for testing. While inpatient hospitalizations are an essential opportunity to test people who use drugs (PWUD) for HIV and HCV, there is limited research on rates of inpatient testing for HIV and HCV among PWUD.
Methods: Eleven hospital sites were included in the study.

Introduction: The association between estrogen and hypercoagulability is well-established but little is known about coagulation dynamics during IVF. Our goal was to measure coagulation potential prior to, during, and following an IVF cycle and to investigate differences by conception outcome.
Materials And Methods: Patients undergoing IVF with fresh embryo transfer at a single academic center using oral contraceptive pills for cycle batching underwent evaluation of thrombin generation using the calibrated automated thrombogram at multiple points during the IVF cycle.

Neutropenic fever in adults undergoing chemotherapy for cancer treatment is a medical emergency and has been the focus of numerous studies. However, there is a paucity of data about non-chemotherapy induced neutropenic fever (non-CINF). We retrospectively reviewed 383 adults with neutropenic fever hospitalized at one academic medical center between October 2015 and September 2020 to characterize the frequency, causes, and outcomes of non-CINF.

The assessment of T-cell clonality by flow cytometry has long been suboptimal, relying on aberrant marker expression and/or intensity. The introduction of TRBC1 shows much promise for improving the diagnosis of T-cell neoplasms in the clinical flow laboratory. Most laboratories considering this marker already have existing panels designed for T-cell workups and will be determining how best to incorporate TRBC1.
