Background: Chronic wounds are a challenge and a major cause of morbidity. A wound is considered chronic if healing does not occur within the expected time frame depending on the etiology and location of the wound.
Objective: To assess the level of knowledge about chronic wound management of postgraduate nurses in different areas of the health system and their previous satisfaction with the training received during their undergraduate studies.
There are circumstances in which breastfeeding is not possible and formula milk feeding has to be resorted to. In these cases, it is difficult to choose among the multitude of brands on the market for infant feeding. Although the composition of formula milk is largely regulated by legislation, there are certain nutrients whose presence in breast milk is beneficial.

We review CAP imaging criteria for transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE), computed tomography angiography (CTA), and magnetic resonance imaging and calculate CAP prevalence in patients with acute CS.
Methods And Results: PubMed and EMBASE databases were searched up to December 2022 in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guideline.
Background And Aims: The 2022-mpox outbreak has spread worldwide in a short time. Integrated knowledge of the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and transmission of mpox are limited. This systematic review of peer-reviewed articles and gray literature was conducted to shed light on the epidemiology, clinical features, and transmission of 2022-mpox outbreak.

Purpose: To explore current primary care practices in keratoconus management in Portugal and compare with previous reported results in two European countries (the UK and Spain), with a special focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and referral practice patterns.
Methods: An online survey adapted to European professional practice was distributed (via newsletters) by the Portuguese Optometrist Association to explore keratoconus patient management and referral practice patterns among Portuguese practitioners.
Results: Responses of 119 optometrists were compared with previous reported of 464 eye-care practitioners (126 in the UK and 338 in Spain).

Brain tumors comprise a large series of tumor cancer from benign to highly malignant gliomas and metastases from primary tumors outside the brain. Intracellular Ca homeostasis is involved in a large series of cell functions including cell proliferation, migration, and cell death. Store-operated Ca entry (SOCE), the most important Ca entry pathway in non-excitable cells, is involved in cell proliferation and migration and enhanced in tumor cells from breast cancer, colon cancer and cell lines derived from glioblastoma but there are almost no studies in human primary glioblastoma cells or other brain tumors.

The current phylogeographic pattern of European brown bears () has commonly been explained by postglacial recolonization out of geographically distinct refugia in southern Europe, a pattern well in accordance with the expansion/contraction model. Studies of ancient DNA from brown bear remains have questioned this pattern, but have failed to explain the glacial distribution of mitochondrial brown bear clades and their subsequent expansion across the European continent. We here present 136 new mitochondrial sequences generated from 346 remains from Europe, ranging in age between the Late Pleistocene and historical times.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common type of chronic liver disease worldwide and includes a broad spectrum of histologic phenotypes, ranging from simple hepatic steatosis or nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). While liver biopsy is the reference gold standard for NAFLD diagnosis and staging, it has limitations due to its sampling variability, invasive nature, and high cost. Thus, there is a need for noninvasive biomarkers that are robust, reliable, and cost effective.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication, which manifest at school especially in less structured situations such as recess. Recess provides opportunities for relationship with peers in a natural context, for which students with ASD may not be equipped with the necessary skills to use without support. Using a single-case design, we evaluated an intervention applied in recess to improve the social interaction skills of a student with high-functioning ASD mediated by his peers without ASD, in second grade of elementary school.

This study examined the social situations that are problematic for peer-rejected students in the first year of elementary school. For this purpose, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted on the Taxonomy of Problematic Social Situations for Children (TOPS, Dodge et al., 1985) in 169 rejected pupils, identified from a sample of 1457 first-grade students (ages 5-7) enrolled in 62 classrooms of elementary school.

Persons who suffer from schizophrenia have difficulties in recognizing emotions in others' facial expressions, which affects their capabilities for social interaction and hinders their social integration. Photographic images have traditionally been used to explore emotion recognition impairments in schizophrenia patients, but they lack of the dynamism that is inherent to facial expressiveness. In order to overcome those inconveniences, over the last years different authors have proposed the use of virtual avatars.

The term nutrigenomics was created to describe how nutrition affects genes and the functions of the protein, at the transcriptional level, proteomic, and metabolic. Using changes in gene expression in blood mononuclear cells could be a model to assess the dietary intervention studies in order to understand the underlying mechanisms and impact of diet and nutrients in atherosclerosis, resistance insulin, obesity and diabetes mellitus. There are studies that have changed the dietary intake of cholesterol, polyunsaturated fat, monounsaturated, antioxidants and decreased caloric intake showing a variety of effects on the expression of mRNA in blood mononuclear cells related to inflammation, immunity, lipid metabolism genes, etc.

Objectives: To evaluate the gastrointestinal tolerance and acceptance of the new formulation of Isosource Protein ® Fibre® with a new blend of fibers IS50®.
Methods: Opened, non-comparative, nonrandomized, descriptive study in patients requiring full enteral tube feeding for at least 7 days. Gastrointestinal tolerance was assessed by daily record of subjective gastrointestinal symptoms by the patient, and objectives behind the abdominal exploration by the researcher for up to 15 days.

Introduction: Previous studies have found that L-arginine induced beneficial effects over insulin resistance both in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and healthy individuals. The aim of our study was to investigate whether an L-arginine enteral supplementation (20 g per day) in head and neck cancer patients could modify insulin resistance, leptin and adiponectin levels after surgery.
Material And Methods: At surgery 82 patients were randomly allocated to two groups: group I received an enteral diet supplements with a high dose of arginine (20g per day) and group II received an enteral formula without arginine.

Background: Malnutrition in surgical patients is associated with delayed recovery, higher rates of morbidity and mortality, prolonged hospital stay, increased healthcare costs and a higher early re-admission rate.
Methods: Data synthesis after review of pertinent literature.
Results: The aetiology of malnutrition is multifactorial.
Background: Studies of the GLP-1 receptor have been directed at identifying polymorphisms in the GLP-1 receptor gene that may be a contributing factor in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular risk factors. Nevertheless, the role of GLP-1 variants on body weight, cardiovascular risk factors and adipokines remains unclear in obese patients.
Objective: Our aim was to analyze the effects of rs6923761 GLP-1 receptor polymorphism on body weight, cardiovascular risk factors and serum adipokine levels in morbid obese patients.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a common developmental disorder characterized by communication difficulties and impaired social interaction. Recent results suggest altered brain dynamics as a potential cause of symptoms in ASD. Here, we aim to describe potential information-processing consequences of these alterations by measuring active information storage (AIS)-a key quantity in the theory of distributed computation in biological networks.
