Background: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) might modulate neural activity and promote neural plasticity in patients with fibromyalgia (FM). This multi-group randomized clinical trial compared home-based active tDCS (HB-a-tDCS) on the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (l-DLPFC) or home-based sham tDCS (HB-s-tDCS), and HB-a-tDCS or HB-s-tDCS on the primary motor cortex (M1) in the connectivity analyses in eight regions of interest (ROIs) across eight resting-state electroencephalography (EEG) frequencies.
Methods: We included 48 women with FM, aged 30 to 65, randomly assigned to 2:1:2:1 to receive 20 sessions during 20 minutes of HB-a-tDCS 2mA or HB-s-tDCS, over l-DLPFC or M1, respectively.

One of the biggest challenges in studying vitrification protocols for small volumes of biological materials, especially the microdroplet vitrification protocol, is measuring the solidification rate, requiring equipment with a high level of technology, making it practically impossible to measure the degree of crystallization. An alternative is using mathematical models applied in computer simulations (CFD), helping to improve and develop new vitrification protocols. This study investigates the vitrification process utilizing the microdroplet method through experimental and numerical analysis.

During storage, infestation by insect pests occurs, causing quantitative and qualitative losses in grains, which requires the control of these insects with phosphine gas. Rice husk has a high phosphine adsorption capacity, influencing the gas concentration during fumigation and potentially leading to inefficient fumigation. Additionally, the high sorption of rice husk results in a higher residue of phosphine in the grain.

Bacteria-mediated bioremediation is widely employed for its environmental benefits. The genus Burkholderia can degrade persistent organic compounds, however, little is known about its mechanisms. To increase this knowledge, Burkholderia vietnamiensis G4 bacteria were exposed to benzo[a]pyrene, a recalcitrant compound, and the expression of twelve genes of interest was analyzed at 1, 12 and 24 h.

A rare disease is that with a low prevalence in the population. However, it is estimated that there are between 6,000 and 8,000 different types of rare diseases in the world and, generally, they are incurable and deadly. Machado-Joseph's disease (MJD) is one of these cases; of genetic origin, autosomal dominant, with a high chance of transmission between generations and without curative treatment.

Introduction: HIV has transitioned from a devastating 1980s epidemic to a manageable chronic condition with antiretroviral therapy. In Brazil, challenges persist, including high detection rates and loss of medical follow-up among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV). Adherence, engagement, and avoiding loss to follow-up are critical for effective HIV/AIDS prevention and care.

The use of medicinal herbs has increased significantly. However, the presence of pesticide residues and mycotoxins in medicinal herbs has generated constant discussion and concern among regulatory agencies. Developing and validating an analytical method for determining pesticides and mycotoxins in medicinal plants is challenging due to the naturally occurring substances in these plants.

Objective: This retrospective study analyzed the errors generated by a convolutional neural network (CNN) when performing automated classification of oral lesions according to their clinical characteristics, seeking to identify patterns in systemic errors in the intermediate layers of the CNN.
Study Design: A cross-sectional analysis nested in a previous trial in which automated classification by a CNN model of elementary lesions from clinical images of oral lesions was performed. The resulting CNN classification errors formed the dataset for this study.

The amygdala consists of a collection of nuclei that are deep within the medial temporal lobe. Despite its small size, the amygdala is one of the most densely connected structures in the brain, and it plays a role in many superior neural functions, including neurovegetative control, motor control, memory processing, and neuromodulation. Advances in neuroimaging technology for examining brain activity have opened up new ways of understanding the functional contribution of this structure to emotions, learning, and related memories.

The optimal duration of antibiotic treatment for the most common bacterial meningitis etiologies in the pediatric population, namely Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Neisseria meningitidis, is not well-established in the literature. Therefore, we aimed to perform an updated meta-analysis comparing shorter versus longer antibiotic treatment in children with meningitis. PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared shorter (up to 7 days) versus longer (10 days or double the days of the equivalent short course) duration of antibiotic treatment in children with meningitis and reported the outcomes of treatment failure, death, neurologic sequelae, non-neurologic complications, hearing impairment, nosocomial infection, and relapse.

Palliative treatments for back pain usually include exercise, analgesics, physiotherapy, prostheses, and surgery in severe cases. Technologies for postural monitoring are growing, and they are important in preventing back pain and mitigating permanent damage. Remote work, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, made people spend more time than usual in chairs and environments not certified by the health aspects of work.

Access to quality and affordable healthcare is central to the fulfilment of women's reproductive and sexual health needs and rights. For this reason, the World Health Organization declared access to appropriate healthcare services during pregnancy and childbirth a fundamental women's right. Prenatal care is a recognized human right to women's health in Brazil, as declared by the 1988 Constitution and many Brazilian policies.

Objective: How are collaborative interactions associated with clients' progress in therapy? This study addressed this question, by assessing the quality of therapeutic collaboration and comparing it passage by passage with the clients' assimilation of problematic experiences in two cases of major depression treated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, one recovered and one improved-but-not-recovered.
Method: We used the Therapeutic Collaboration Coding System to code collaborative work and the Assimilation of Problematic Experiences Scale (APES) to rate clients' progress. In both cases, for the distribution of specific collaborative therapeutic exchanges, we tested for the difference of empirical means between lower and higher APES levels.

The use of recycled waste has been the focus of several studies due to its potential to allow a more sustainable use of construction materials and minimize improper waste disposal in landfills or incinerators. More specifically, garment textile waste has been examined as internal reinforcement of cementitious matrices to increase the deformability and control fissure formation. In this study, polyester textiles are analyzed and incorporated in cementitious composites in order to evaluate their mechanical properties.
