Article Synopsis
  • The study utilized rapid-scan electrochemical FT-IR spectroscopy to investigate the reduction of carbon monoxide (CO) to formate in a specific solution, focusing on the effects of electrolyte potential changes near a copper electrode.
  • Key findings show that CO quickly converts to formate under mildly acidic conditions, while bicarbonate also reduces to formate but more slowly, and carbonate does not lead to formate production at all.
  • The research also explored using pulsed electrolysis to enhance formate production rates; however, this method initially increased CO concentration but eventually caused electrode deactivation due to the formation of undesired copper carbonates.

We report a case of a mid-20s primigravida at 37 weeks' gestation who presented with severe headache and acute neurological deterioration. The CT brain scan showed hydrocephalus caused by a colloid cyst in the third ventricle. The patient underwent emergency placement of an external ventricular drain for decompression of acute hydrocephalus.

Accumulating several scans of free induction decays is always needed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio of NMR spectra, especially for the low gyromagnetic ratio solid-state NMR. In this study, we present a new denoising approach based on the correlations between multiple similar NMR spectra. Contrary to the simple averaging of multiple scans or denoising the final averaged spectrum, we propose a Wavelet-based Denoising technique for Multiple Similar scans(WDMS).

Background: Women have been reported to have worse outcomes after endovascular treatment (EVT), despite a similar treatment effect in non-clinical trial populations. We aimed to assess sex differences at hospital presentation with respect to workflow metrics, prestroke disability, and presenting clinical symptoms.

Methods: We included consecutive patients from the Multicentre Randomised Controlled Trial of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischaemic Stroke in The Netherlands (MR CLEAN) Registry (2014-2018) who received EVT for anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO).

We studied the flow fields generated inside sessile drops that oscillate periodically between states of high and low contact angle under the influence of alternating electric fields of variable frequency and amplitude. Following the motion of dye patches, we show that the number of oscillation cycles required to achieve mixing scales logarithmically with the Péclet number as expected for chaotic mixing. High speed movies reveal an asymmetry of the drop shape between the spreading and receding phase of the oscillations.
