This study considers Timoshenko beam theory and the isogeometric analysis method to investigate the free vibration and buckling of axially functionally graded (AFG) tapered beams. The governing equations are obtained from the kinematic assumptions of Timoshenko beam theory and Hamilton's principle. The isogeometric analysis approach is implemented to solve the motion equations.

In this study, a thorough examination of the chemical, thermal, and mechanical characteristics, as well as shape memory behavior at low temperatures, of blends consisting of polylactic acid (PLA) and polyurethane (TPU) is conducted. The research involves the preparation of PLA/TPU mixtures with varying concentrations of TPU using a high-speed thermo-kinetic mixing approach. Chemical, morphological, and thermal analyses were conducted on pure PLA, TPU, and PLA/TPU mixtures by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction pattern spectroscopy (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).

Neonicotinoid pesticide use has increased around the world despite accumulating evidence of their potential detrimental sub-lethal effects on the behaviour and physiology of bees, and its contribution to the global decline in bee health. Whilst flower colour is considered as one of the most important signals for foraging honey bees (Apis mellifera), the effects of pesticides on colour vision and memory retention in a natural setting remain unknown. We trained free flying honey bee foragers by presenting artificial yellow flower feeder, to an unscented artificial flower patch with 6 different flower colours to investigate if sub-lethal levels of imidacloprid would disrupt the acquired association made between the yellow flower colour from the feeder and food reward.

The accurate measurement of cooking vessel temperatures in induction hobs is crucial for ensuring optimal cooking performance and safety. To achieve this, improvements in existing measurement methods such as thermocouples, thermistors, and infrared (IR) temperature sensors are being explored. However, traditional IR sensors are sensitive to interference from the heated glass ceramic, severely affecting accuracy.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a growing global healthcare burden. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are more likely to acquire MetS than the general population. Recent research suggests that the interaction of adipose tissue products, such as adiponectin resistin and uric acid, is essential in MetS onset.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a life-threatening condition caused by the chronic gradual narrowing of the lumen of the blood vessels of the heart by atherosclerotic plaque with a strong genetic component. The aim of our study was to investigate the association between the polymorphism rs2010963 and myocardial infarction in patients with type 2 diabetes, as well as the expression of VEGFA. A total of 1589 unrelated Caucasians with T2DM lasting longer than 10 years were divided into two groups: case group subjects with MI (484) and a control group without a history of CAD (1105).

Collective continuity, the perception of the ingroup as an enduring temporal entity, has been linked with ingroup favouritism, negative attitudes and prejudice towards the outgroups. However, previous studies focused mainly on the perceived connection between the past and present of the group. We proposed that the expectation of a strong similarity between the present and future of the national ingroup, future collective continuity (FCC), positively affects present intergroup relations construals.

Study Objectives: To examine 1) multidimensional sleep profiles in pre-schoolers (3-6 years) across geocultural regions and 2) differences in sleep characteristics and family practices between Majority World regions (Pacific Islands, Sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America) and the Minority World (the Western world).
Methods: Participants were 3507 pre-schoolers from 37 countries. Nighttime sleep characteristics and nap duration (accelerometer: n=1950) and family practices (parental questionnaire) were measured.
Background: Evaluated values of body mass index (BMI), waist circumeference (WC) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) increase the risk of stroke, but the extent to which this is mediated by hypertension, diabetes, lipid status, smoking and alcohol consumption is not fully understood.
Objective: The aim of this research is to examine the influence of modifying and non-modifying factors as well as obesity defined through BMI, WC and WHR on the occurrence of stroke.
Methods: A total of 440 subjects were included in the cohort divided in to two groups.

Foam-based wound dressing materials produced by dispersing gas phases in a polymeric material are soft, adapt to the body shape, and allow the absorption of wound exudate due to their porous structure. Most of these formulations are based on synthetic substances such as polyurethane. However, biopolymers have entered the field as a new player thanks to their biocompatible and sustainable nature.

An extensive body of literature has associated cancer with redox imbalance and inflammatory conditions. Thus, several studies and current clinical practice have relied on the use of anticancer drugs known to be associated with prooxidant state. On the other hand, a number of studies have reported on the effects of several antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents and of mitochondrial cofactors (also termed mitochondrial nutrients, MNs) in counteracting or slowing carcinogenesis, or in controlling cancer growth.

This review assesses the burden of human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cancers in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH), aiming to inform strategies for prevention and early detection. Despite the availability of highly effective HPV vaccines and screening programs, HPV-related cancers remain a significant public health burden worldwide. We conducted a comprehensive search of PubMed and GLOBOCAN to identify all available data on HPV prevalence/genotype and HPV-related malignancies in BH, including information on HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening.

The optical centers in AlN can frequently exist in various charge states and can be accompanied by many coexisting defect species, creating a complex environment where mutual interactions are inevitable. Therefore, it is an immediate quest to design AlN crystal growth protocols that can target a specific optical center of interest and tune its concentration while preventing the formation of other unwanted point defects. Here, we provide a powerful workflow for point defect engineering in wide band gap, binary semiconductors that can be readily used to design optimal crystal growth protocols through combining CALPHAD-based phase analysis, and defect calculations.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is associated with systemic complications, including the development of pulmonary injury, characterized mainly by excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix components and inflammatory cell infiltration in lung tissue. This process is driven by oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, both caused and exacerbated by hyperglycemia. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and glycine, known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, offer potential therapeutic benefits in mitigating diabetes-induced lung injury.

Purpose: To predict oncological outcomes and select appropriate treatments for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), pre-treatment predictors such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are being used. This study aims to evaluate whether NLR is an independent predictor of disease and disease recurrence in NMIBC patients.
Methods: In this prospective clinical study, from March 2018 to March 2023, preoperative NLR values were monitored in 99 patients newly diagnosed with NMIBC, who were initially treated with trans-urethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) and adjuvant intravesical therapy.
