Tobacco use often starts during adolescence, with many adults beginning before 21. This study investigated the patterns and factors associated with tobacco and e-cigarette use among school-aged adolescents in Albania. Data were analyzed from two Albania Global Youth Tobacco Surveys (GYTS) conducted in 2015 and 2020.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a major risk factor for ischemic stroke (IS), but whether the magnitude of this risk has changed over time is unknown.
Objectives: This study sought to investigate temporal trends in IS rates in patients with incident AF before oral anticoagulant agent (OAC) therapy.
Methods: The nationwide FinACAF (Finnish Anticoagulation in Atrial Fibrillation) study covers patients with AF at all levels of care in Finland from 2007 to 2018.

Enzyme promiscuity is the ability of an enzyme to catalyze an unexpected side reaction in addition to its main reaction. Here, we describe a biocatalytic process to produce non-hydrolyzable NAD+ analogs based on the ADP-ribosyltransferase (ART) activity of pertussis toxin PtxS1 subunit. First, in identical manner to normal catalysis, PtxS1 activates NAD+ to form the reactive oxocarbenium cation.

Background And Objective: Toxicity from local salvage therapy for radiorecurrent prostate cancer (PCa) remains a concern. This phase 2 study evaluates the outcomes of salvage magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided transurethral ultrasound ablation (sTULSA).
Methods: Men with biochemically relapsed, biopsy-proven PCa following definitive radiotherapy underwent whole- or partial-gland sTULSA (NCT03350529).

This study examines the emotional consequences of spending choices in everyday life across a diverse multinational sample. Based on a dataset of 200 participants across 7 countries who received $10,000 USD, we analyzed how happy they felt from different types of purchases made with that money. Participants derived high levels of happiness from some types of purchases that have been examined in past research (e.

Aim: To describe how nursing staff assess their superiors' destructive leadership and nurse leaders' structural empowerment. A further aim is to examine the associations between destructive leadership and staff outcomes and how nurse leaders' structural empowerment moderates these associations.
Design: A cross-sectional study.

Background: A growing number of studies among adolescents have reported early maladaptive schemas (EMS) to associate with anxiety and depression within non-clinical samples. However, there is a gap of knowledge concerning clinical populations.
Aims: The current study's aim was to explore the potential association between EMS domains and anxiety and depressive symptoms within clinical sample of adolescents.

Background: Many histopathologic prognostic markers, identified by routine hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, have been proposed for predicting the survival of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Subsequently, several meta-analyses have been conducted on these prognostic markers. We sought to analyze the accumulated evidence from these meta-analyses.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the margin quality of anterior crowns made of experimental short fiber-reinforced CAD/CAM composite (SFRC CAD) block before and after cyclic fatigue aging. Moreover, to investigate the microstructure, homogeneity, and porosity of the SFRC CAD compared with other commercial CAD/CAM materials.
Methods: 40 anterior crowns were milled from five CAD/CAM blocks divided into five groups (n = 8/group).

Satisfying romantic relationships often feature high levels of nurturance and eroticism. Consensually non-monogamous (CNM) individuals may experience these with additional partners, potentially reducing the need for both to be present in a primary relationship to achieve satisfaction. We assessed how nurturance and eroticism relate to relationship satisfaction in single-partnered ( = 289) and multi-partnered ( = 335) individuals.

Background: Few studies have concurrently examined how different types of stressors influence university students' well-being through their use of coping strategies. Exploring such effects should enrich our understanding of how individuals develop strategies for coping with specific stressful situations and provide insights into the mechanisms by which different stressors impact students' well-being in higher education contexts.
Aims: This study investigated the effects of social mistreatment, academic alienation, and developmental challenge on emotional and psychological well-being via approach and avoidance coping strategies.

Background: Efforts to understand atherosclerosis, a major cause of ischemic heart disease, have linked several lifestyle factors to increased risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Some studies suggest that cytomegalovirus (CMV), a widely prevalent herpesvirus, is reactivated in atherosclerotic plaques and associated with higher cardiovascular mortality risk. We aimed to explore whether CMV seropositivity and CMV-IgG antibody levels correlate with relevant biomarkers in a cohort of patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and matched controls.

Purpose: We developed a hybrid safety surveillance approach for a large, pragmatic clinical trial of a high-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccine (QIV-HD), using both active and passive data collection methods. Here, we present the methods and results for the passive register-based surveillance of serious adverse events (SAEs), which replaced conventional SAE reporting during the trial.
Patients And Methods: The trial recruited over 33,000 older adults of whom 50% received the QIV-HD while the rest received a standard-dose vaccine (QIV-SD) as a control vaccine.

Word fluency (WF) tasks that tap verbal and executive function show deteriorating performance by advancing age. To address the scarcely studied age-related brain correlates of WF, we employed whole-brain voxel-based morphometry to examine gray matter (GM) correlates of semantic and phonemic WF in 46 healthy older adults. Lower phonemic WF score was related to smaller anterior medial temporal GM volume as well as smaller GM volume in the putamen bilaterally.

The receptor tyrosine kinase AXL promotes tumor progression, metastasis, and therapy resistance through the induction of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Here, we found that activation of AXL resulted in the phosphorylation of TANK-binding kinase 1 (TBK1) and the downstream activation of AKT3 and Snail, a transcription factor critical for EMT. Mechanistically, we showed that TBK1 directly bound to and phosphorylated AKT3 in a manner dependent on the multiprotein complex mTORC1.

Aims: Mesonephric-like adenocarcinoma (MLA) of the endometrium is often a diagnostic challenge, due to its morphological resemblance to other more common Müllerian neoplasms. This study aimed to retrospectively identify overlooked MLA in a large endometrial carcinoma cohort, using a combination of immunohistochemistry (IHC), morphology and KRAS sequencing.
Methods And Results: IHC was conducted on 1094 endometrial carcinomas, identifying 16 potential MLA cases based on GATA3+ and/or TTF1+ and ER- staining patterns, which subsequently underwent detailed histological review, KRAS sequencing and ProMisE molecular classification.

Applications of advanced omics methodologies are increasingly popular in biomedicine. However, large-scale studies aiming at clinical translation are typically siloed to single technologies. Here, we present the first comprehensive large-scale population data combining 209 lipoprotein measures from a quantitative NMR spectroscopy platform and 809 lipid classes and species from a quantitative LC-MS/MS platform.
