Laser-ablated graphene electrodes modified with redox melanin-like film for redox capacitive sensing via the scavenging of nitrite ions.

Food Chem

December 2024

Sensors and Biosensors Group, Analytical Chemistry and Electrochemistry Lab (LR99ES15), University of Tunis El Manar, Tunis El Manar, 2092 Tunis, Tunisia. Electronic address:

Improper use and harmful effects of nitrite ions pose a significant risk to human health. To address this concern, the use of carbon-based materials for electrochemical sensing is regarded as one of the most promising detection tools for ensuring the quality of drinking water and food products. In this context, we developed laser-ablated graphene electrodes (LAGEs) by direct laser scribing on a polyimide substrate, which were subsequently modified by electrochemical deposition of a redox-active melanin-like film (MeLF/LAGEs).

Alleviation of drought stress in tomato by foliar application of seafood waste extract.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Laboratory of Molecular Genetics, Immunology and Biotechnology (LR99ES12), Faculty of Sciences of Tunis, University of Tunis El Manar, Tunis, 2092, Tunisia.

To manage the adverse effects of garbage pollution and avoid using chemicals, a natural extract of seafood shells was obtained and explored for its beneficial role. Physical characterization highlighted that its active compounds correspond to chitin and its derivative, chitosan. The ability of the extracted biostimulant to foster tomato tolerance was tested on drought-stressed plants.

Full Circle: When HSFs bring the heat-mapping the transcriptional circuitries of HSF-type regulators in .

mSphere

December 2024

Institut Pasteur de Tunis, University of Tunis El Manar, Laboratoire de Microbiologie Moléculaire, Vaccinologie et Développement Biotechnologique, Tunis, Tunisia.

Heat shock factor (HSF)-type regulators are stress-responsive transcription factors widely distributed among eukaryotes, including fungi. They carry a four-stranded winged helix-turn-helix DNA-binding domain considered as the signature domain for HSFs. The genome of the opportunistic yeast encodes four HSF members, namely, Sfl1, Sfl2, Skn7, and the essential regulator, Hsf1.

Rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA using a one-step fast multiplex RT-PCR coupled to lateral flow immunoassay.

BMC Infect Dis

December 2024

Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology and Experimental Pathology, LR16IPT04, Institut Pasteur de Tunis, University of Tunis El Manar, Tunis, LR16IPT04, Tunisia.

Background: The COVID-19 has put emphasis on pivotal needs for diagnosis and surveillance worldwide, with the subsequent shortage of diagnostic reagents and kits. Therefore, it has become strategic for the countries to access diagnostics, expand testing capacity, and develop their own diagnostic capabilities and alternative rapid accurate nucleic acid diagnostics that are at lower costs. Here, we propose a visual SARS-CoV-2 detection using a one-step fast multiplex reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) amplification coupled to lateral flow immunoassay detection on a PCRD device (Abingdon Health, UK).

Associations of HLA-G 3'UTR polymorphisms and increased HLA-G expression with gastric cancer susceptibility and prognosis.

Immunobiology

December 2024

Laboratory of Microorganisms and Active Biomolecules (LR03ES03), Sciences Faculty of Tunis, University of Tunis El Manar, Tunis, Tunisia. Electronic address:

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) remains a serious health concern and is characterized by a multifactorial etiology involving both genetic and epigenetic factors. The aim of the current study was to examine the relationship between Human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-G 3'UTR polymorphisms and the expression of HLA-G in both tumor tissues and plasma samples from patients with GC in the Tunisian population.

Methods: HLA-G 3'UTR polymorphisms (14pb Insertion/deletion and + 3142C/G) were identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or Sanger sequencing.

This research paper investigates the application of Genetic Algorithms (GA) in optimizing Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) for phoneme recognition. The study examines the formalism of GA, their parameters, and operators, and describes the genetic strategy adopted for phoneme recognition using the TIMIT sound database. The paper presents the outcomes of experiments conducted on the phonemes of the test base and the DR1 dialect learning base of the TIMIT base, and compares the recognition rates obtained by learning and testing with those guided by Self-Organizing Map (SOM) experiments.

A consistent part of gas sensor research activities aims to improve sensing performances by synthesizing new sensing materials, improving the selection of elements in arrays, and optimizing the feature extraction and classification algorithms. This paper combines most of these aspects to confer selectivity to a low-selectivity sensor by using feature extraction algorithms applied to the sensor response kinetics. Several algorithms were employed to represent the kinetic behavior of the sensor response during the adsorption and desorption phases.

Acantholytic Dyskeratotic Acanthoma of the Nail Revealed by a Longitudinal Erythronychia.

Skin Appendage Disord

December 2024

Dermatology Department, Habib Thameur Hospital, "Genodermatoses and Cancers LR12SP03", Tunis, Tunisia.

Introduction: Focal acantholytic dyskeratosis is a distinctive histological pattern first described by Ackerman in 1972, consisting of focal suprabasal clefts in the epidermis and dyskeratotic cells at all levels of the epidermis with hyperkeratosis and parakeratosis. The first case of subungual acantholytic dyskeratosis acanthoma (ADA) was reported in 1990. This subungual variant is a very rare entity.

Article Synopsis
  • * A specific density functional method (ωB97XD with 6-31G(d)/Def2-TZVP basis set) is identified as the most accurate for simulating how MPr binds to graphene, and simplifying the model speeds up calculations without losing important optoelectronic properties.
  • * ZnPr shows the best light harvesting efficiency, while CdPr and HgPr retain effective photosensitizing properties when attached to graphene, especially in larger graphene structures (over 500 atoms).
