Electrolyte solutions containing Fe/Fe are suitable for liquid thermoelectric conversion devices (LTEs), because they are inexpensive materials and exhibit a high electrochemical Seebeck coefficient . Here, we investigated the concentration () dependence of resistance components, , solvent (), charge-transfer (), and diffusion () resistances, of dissolved-Fe/Fe-containing aqueous, methanol (MeOH), acetone, and propylene carbonate (PC) solutions. We found that the dependence of and are well reproduced by empirical formulas, and , where () is viscosity at .

Complement C5 (C5) is the key component for the complement activation pathway, which is important for innate immunity, and inhibition of C5 is considered to be effective in antibody-mediated rejection in organ transplantation. Thus determination of C5 levels in systemic circulation is a simple way to understand efficacy of drugs that aim to inhibit C5 production. We have developed a simple liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) assay for C5 in cynomolgus monkey serum.

The electrochemical Seebeck coefficient ( = d/d; and are the redox potential and temperature, respectively) is important parameter for thermoelectric conversion. Here, we found that of Fe/Fe in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with small amount of 19 M LiCl aqueous solution exhibits a crossover behavior from 1.4 mV K (20 °C ≤ ≤ 40 °C) to ≈0 mV K (50 °C ≤ ≤ 80 °C).

The interplay between the coordination environment and magnetic properties in O3 layered sodium transition metal oxides (NaTMO) is a fascinating and complex problem. Through detailed and comprehensive density functional investigations on O3 NaTMO compounds, we demonstrate that the TM ions in O3 NaMnO, NaFeO and NaCoO adopt a high spin state. Structurally, NaMnO and NaPdO undergo Jahn-Teller distortions while NaNbO undergoes puckering distortion.

We constructed a cultivation system with a controlled light period, light intensity, temperature, and CO(2) concentration for mass production of the taste-modifying protein miraculin from transgenic tomatoes. The tomato plants exhibited normal growth and produced over 270 g of fresh weight (FW) fruit per plant, with the recombinant miraculin concentration reaching up to 90 microg per g FW of tomatoes. The recombinant miraculin content of transgenic tomatoes was compared to that of plants grown in a netted greenhouse.
