Multifunctional optical materials can be realized by combining stimuli-responsive photoluminescence (PL), , optical thermometry, with non-linear optical (NLO) effects, such as second-harmonic generation (SHG). We report a novel approach towards SHG-active luminescent thermometers achieved by constructing unique iridium(iii) complexes, -[Ir(CN)(,-pinppy)] (,-pinppy = (,)-2-phenyl-4,5-pinenopyridine), bearing both a chiral 2-phenylpyridine derivative and cyanido ligands, the latter enabling the formation of a series of molecular materials: (TBA)[Ir(CN)(,-pinppy)]·2MeCN (1) (TBA = tetrabutylammonium) and (Bu-DABCO)[Ir(CN)(,-pinppy)](i)·MeCN (2) (Bu-DABCO = 1-(-butyl)-1,4-diazabicyclo-[2.2.

1,10-Phenanthroline (Phen) is a typical ligand for metal complexation and various metal/Phen complexes have been applied as a catalyst in several organic transformations. This study reports the synthesis of a Phen-based periodic mesoporous organosilica (Phen-PMO) with the Phen moieties being directly incorporated into the organosilica framework. The Phen-PMO precursor, 3,8-bis[(triisopropoxysilyl)methyl]-1,10-phenanthroline (1a), was prepared the Kumada-Tamao-Corriu cross-coupling of 3,8-dibromo-1,10-phenanthroline and [(triisopropoxysilyl)methyl]magnesium chloride.

We introduce a simple-to-use manual roller pump (MRP)-driven and valve-free microfluidic system for sequential solution exchange, followed by a bioassay to detect protein. The polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)/glass-based disposable device comprises a reaction chamber, multiple micro-flow channels (μFCs), and air vents. The practical solution exchange was realized by sequential injection and withdrawal of several solutions into and from the reaction chamber through constricted μFCs by utilizing changing air pressure of an MRP when a small cylindrical roller was pressed and rolled over a soft silicone tube using a finger.

Atomic vibrations due to stretching or bending modes cause optical phonon modes in the solid phase. These optical phonon modes typically lie in the frequency range of 10 to 10 cm. How much can the frequency of optical phonon modes be lowered? Herein we show an extremely low-frequency optical phonon mode of 19 cm (0.

Donor-acceptor-donor conjugates composed of electron-donating carbon-bridged styrylstilbene (COPV2) and electron-accepting thiadiazole derivatives equipped with carbazolyl (Cz) terminators, Cz-COPV2-A-COPV2-Cz (A = benzothiadiazole (BTz), naphthobis(thiadiazole) (NTz), or benzobis(thiadiazole) (BBTz)), were newly synthesized and found to serve as efficient and stable long-wavelength photoluminescent dyes in organic and aqueous media. In particular, Cz-COPV2-BBTz-COPV2-Cz showed photoluminescence in the near infrared region (895-927 nm) with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of up to 0.19 in cyclohexane and of 0.

This paper describes a simple, low-temperature, and environmentally friendly aqueous route for the layer-by-layer nanometric growth of crystalline α-FeO. The formation mechanism involves alternative sequences of the electrostatic adsorption of Fe ions on the surface and the subsequent onsite oxidation to Fe. A combination analysis of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that α-FeO is directly formed without post-growth annealing designed chemical reactions with a growth rate of 1.

Three dimensional (3D) porous carbon materials are highly desirable for electrochemical applications owing to their high surface area and porosity. Uniformly distributed porosity in the 3D architecture of carbon support materials allows reactant molecules to access more electrochemically active centres and simultaneously facilitate removal of the product formed during electrochemical reactions. Herein, we have prepared a nitrogen-doped entangled graphene framework (NEGF), decorated with NiFe-LDH nanostructures by an solvothermal method followed by freeze-drying at high vacuum pressure and low temperature.

Easily mass-producible needle-type Na and K ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) were developed for the direct and indirect measurement of Na and K ion concentrations in live plants. A polyimide strip with a silver layer on one side and Ag/AgCl formed at one end was used to construct two types of ISEs. For the type I ISE, an electrolyte layer was formed on the layer of silver and Ag/AgCl, which was then covered with a protecting layer.
