The ecological state of aquatic ecosystems is systematically monitored using various bioindicators in many countries worldwide. In the European Union, freshwater biomonitoring is the central component of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD, 2000/60/EC) and currently based on morpho-taxonomic methods. DNA metabarcoding is a novel approach to assess the ecological state fast and efficiently based on organismal DNA signatures and thereby support and upscale biomonitoring.

Background: Complementing the development of evidence-based psychological therapies, practice-based evidence has developed from patient samples collected in routine care, addressing questions relevant to patients and practitioners, and thereby expanding our knowledge of psychological therapies and their impact. Implementation of assessments in routine care allows for timely clinical decision support and the collection of multiple practice-based data sets by addressing the needs of patients and clinicians (e.g.

Adaptive behavior is based on flexibly managing and integrating perceptual and motor processes, and the reconfiguration thereof. Such adaptive behavior is also relevant during inhibitory control. Although research has demonstrated local activity modulations in theta and alpha frequency bands during behavioral adaptation, the communication of brain regions is insufficiently studied.

Mouse-tracking is regarded as a powerful technique to investigate latent cognitive and emotional states. However, drawing inferences from this manifold data source carries the risk of several pitfalls, especially when using aggregated data rather than single-trial trajectories. Researchers might reach wrong conclusions because averages lump together two distinct contributions that speak towards fundamentally different mechanisms underlying between-condition differences: influences from online-processing during action execution and influences from incomplete decision processes.

Recently, it has been proposed that self-relevance of a stimulus enhances executive control and reduces the impact of distractors on current task performance. The present study aimed to test whether the binding between a distractor and a response is influenced by self-relevance, too. We assumed that targets' self-relevance should increase executive control processes and therefore reduce the influence of distractors on current performance.

Measurement-based care, that is, incorporating data-informed decision support for therapists into psychological therapy, has undergone significant advancements over the past 2 decades. Technological innovations such as computerized data assessment and feedback tools have facilitated its widespread adoption across various settings. For instance, clinicians can utilize psychometric data to personalize therapeutic approaches, strategies, or modules and track a patient's response to therapy in real time (e.

Attention in social interactions is directed by social cues such as the face or eye region of an interaction partner. Several factors that influence these attentional biases have been identified in the past. However, most findings are based on paradigms with static stimuli and no interaction potential.

A major concept in cognitive neuroscience is that brains are "prediction machines". Yet, conceptual frameworks on how perception and action become integrated still lack the concept of predictability and it is unclear how neural processes may implement predictive coding during dynamic perception-action integration. We show that distinct neurophysiological mechanisms of nonlinearly directed connectivities in the theta and alpha band between cortical structures underlie these processes.

In the literature on human action control, the binding and retrieval of responses are assumed to shape the coordination of more complex actions. Specifically, the consecutive execution of two responses is assumed to result in their integration into cognitive representations (so-called event files) and can be retrieved from that upon later response repetition, thereby influencing behavior. Against the background of ideomotor theory and more recent theorizing in the binding and retrieval in action control framework (Frings et al.

Functional movement disorders are amongst the most common and disabling neurological conditions, placing a significant burden on the healthcare system. Despite the frequency and importance of functional movement disorders, our understanding of the underlying pathophysiology is limited, hindering the development of causal treatment options. Traditionally, functional movement disorders were considered as a psychiatric condition, associated with involuntary movements triggered by psychological stressors.

Objective: To date, many prediction studies in psychotherapy research have used cross-sectional data to predict treatment outcome. The present study used intensive longitudinal assessments and continuous time dynamic modeling (CTDM) to investigate the temporal dynamics of affective states and emotion regulation in the early phase of therapy and their ability to predict treatment outcome.
Method: Ninety-one patients undergoing psychological treatment at a university outpatient clinic took part in a 2-week ecological momentary assessment (EMA) period.

During continuous tasks, humans show spontaneous fluctuations in performance, putatively caused by varying attentional resources allocated to process external information. If neural resources are used to process other, presumably "internal" information, sensory input can be missed and explain an apparent dichotomy of "internal" versus "external" attention. In the current study, we extract presumed neural signatures of these attentional modes in human electroencephalography (EEG): neural entrainment and α-oscillations (~10-Hz), linked to the processing and suppression of sensory information, respectively.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and radar technology have benefitted from breakthroughs in recent decades. Both technologies have found applications independently of each other, but together, they also unlock new possibilities, especially for remote sensing applications. One of the key factors for a remote sensing system is the estimation of the flight attitude.

Adaptive behavior is fundamental to cognitive control and executive functioning. This study investigates how cognitive control mechanisms and episodic feature retrieval interact to influence adaptiveness, focusing particularly on theta (4 to 8 Hz) oscillatory dynamics. We conducted two variations of the Simon task, incorporating response-incompatible, response-compatible, and neutral trials.

Recent studies suggest that learners who are asked to predict the outcome of an event learn more than learners who are asked to evaluate it retrospectively or not at all. One possible explanation for this "prediction boost" is that it helps learners engage metacognitive reasoning skills that may not be spontaneously leveraged, especially for individuals with still-developing executive functions. In this paper, we combined multiple analytic approaches to investigate the potential role of executive functions in elementary school-aged children's science learning.

Objective: The present study explores how coming out to parents - in terms of both status (being out vs. not) and, if out, experience (continuum from rejection to acceptance) - affects trans people's mental health.
Method: Participants were 509 young adult trans individuals from Germany (community-based sample; 50% gender binary, 50% nonbinary; 16-35 years).
