Background/aim: The most commonly prescribed anti-seizures medications (ASMs) for the treatment of epilepsy are currently topiramate, zonisamide, lacosamide, carbamazepine and levetiracetam. The objective of this study was to examine the correlation between preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative metabolic acidosis and the use of ASMs prior to craniotomy operations.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study evaluated patients who underwent intracranial surgery with craniotomy under general anaesthesia between May 2020 and April 2023 and used ASMs.

Managing landscape change is increasingly challenging due to rapid anthropogenic shifts. A delicate balance must be struck between the environment and change to ensure landscapes can withstand these impacts. This study conducted in the Tunca River sub-basin of Edirne province, aims to assess landscape sensitivity by examining the influence of land use/land cover (LULC) and climate change on landscape function processes.

Purpose: To determine the effects of rubber-cup polishing with different prophylaxis polishing pastes (PPP) on the color stability and surface properties of enamel and dental restorations.
Methods: Direct (DC) and indirect composite (IC) samples were produced in disc-shaped plexiglass molds (10 x 2 mm). Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) composite blocks (CC) were sliced at a 2 mm thickness and the vestibular enamel surfaces (ES) of human incisors were included.

The major event that hit Europe in summer 2021 reminds society that floods are recurrent and among the costliest and deadliest natural hazards. The long-term flood risk management (FRM) efforts preferring sole technical measures to prevent and mitigate floods have shown to be not sufficiently effective and sensitive to the environment. Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) mark a recent paradigm shift of FRM towards solutions that use nature-derived features, processes and management options to improve water retention and mitigate floods.

Endogenous dentin proteases contribute to the degradation of collagen fibrils in the hybrid layer. Recently, inhibition of host-derived proteases by curcuminoids has shown promising results. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of curcuminoid treatment on the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) after 24 h or 12 months of storage.

Objective: Lower extremity (LE) deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is the main feature of vascular involvement in Behçet disease (BD). We thought that vein wall thickness (VWT) could be a surrogate marker for venous inflammation and hence predict future vascular involvement. We assessed VWT in proximal LE veins in BD patients without DVT, BD patients with DVT, and healthy controls in a formal, masked protocol.

The erectile dysfunction drug sildenafil has cardiopulmonary protective actions, and a nephroprotective action in cisplatin and ischemia-reperfusion-induced acute kidney injury. Here, we assessed its possible ameliorative action in a model of chronic kidney disease (CKD) using adenine feeding. Eight groups of rats were treated with saline (controls), adenine (0.

Potassium bromate (KBrO) is used in many countries in cosmetic and food industries. In this work, we investigated in male Sprague-Dawley rats, the effect of four graded oral doses of KBrO (5, 15, 45 and 135 mg/kg/day for 28 days) on renal function tests, inflammation, oxidative damage, and apoptosis, as well as on histopathology, using several traditional and novel renal injury biomarkers in plasma, urine and renal tissues. We also tested the possible ameliorative action of the renoprotective prebiotic agent gum acacia (GA) on the actions of KBrO when given concomitantly with it in the drinking water at a concentration of 15%.

Objectives: This study was aimed at investigating immune activations of the 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis model in colonic mucosa by immunohistochemical and Western blot methods.
Materials And Methods: For this purpose, 16 female Wistar albino rats were divided into two random groups of control (n=8) and colitis (n=8). The experimental colitis model was induced by intracolonic administration of TNBS (25 mg/rat).

Experimental and clinical data strongly suggests that nitric oxide (NO) plays a pivotal role in migraine. This is also supported by studies of migraine induced by substances that release NO. NO is synthesized from L-arginine by endothelial NO synthase (NOS).

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have been reported to benefit from different types of exercises. It has also been shown that the ACE inhibitor lisinopril, and the natural product curcumin are also beneficial in different models of CKD in rats. We assessed the influence of moderate swimming exercise (SE) on rats with adenine-induced CKD, and tested the possible effects of lisinopril and/or curcumin thereon using several physiological, biochemical, histopathological and immunohistochemical parameters.

Objectives: To evaluate the protective effect of erdosteine, an antiapoptotic and antioxidant agent, on torsion-detorsion evoked histopathological changes in experimental ovarian ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury.
Materials And Methods: Eighteen female Wistar albino rats were used in control, IR, and IR+Edosteine (IR-E) groups, (n=6 in each). The IR-E group received the erdosteine for seven days before the induction of torsion/retorsion, (10 mg/kg/days).

Objectives: In the present study, we evaluated immunological and immunomodulatory properties of royal jelly (RJ) in 2,4,6 trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis in rats.
Materials And Methods: Eighteen adult female Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups of six animals each: a control group that received only saline solution, a TNBS-induced colitis group, and a TNBS-colitis+RJ group that received 250 mg/kg/day of RJ for seven days before the induction of colitis, following by the same treatment for an additional seven days. At the end of the experiment, cardiac blood and colon samples were obtained under deep anaesthesia from the animals in all groups.

This paper presents a novel hormone-based impedimetric biosensor to determine parathyroid hormone (PTH) level in serum for diagnosis and monitoring treatment of hyperparathyroidism, hypoparathyroidism and thyroid cancer. The interaction between PTH and the biosensor was investigated by an electrochemical method. The biosensor was based on the gold electrode modified by 12-mercapto dodecanoic (12MDDA).

Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the protective effects of Ginkgo biloba EGb761 extract on renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats.
Materials And Methods: 26 male Wistar albino rats were divided into four groups: First group (n=6), which served as control received only standard pellet; second group (IR) (n=6) was subjected to renal I/R injury; a third group (Gb) (n=7) was given additional EGb761 extract; and rats in the fourth group (IR-Gb) (n=7) had been treated with EGb761 extract before they were subjected to I/R injury. After rats were euthanized, renal tissues were analyzed microscopically, and tissue malondyaldehyde (MDA), catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels were determined.

We aimed to investigate insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1), insulin receptor substrate-2 (IRS-2), insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) genotypes, which are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of many solid tumors and have thus far not been studied in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). The study consisted of 93 patients diagnosed with DTC (79 females, 14 males) and 111 healthy control subjects (63 females, 48 males). The anthropometric measurements, lipid profiles, thyroid function tests and homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) as an indicator of insulin resistance (IR) of all patients were recorded.
