Data about the impact of Belimumab on corticosteroid sparing in real life are scarce. To assess the corticosteroid-sparing effect among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) treated with Belimumab in real-life settings. Multicentric observational retrospective study including patients with SLE and having received Belimumab for at least 6 months between 2011 and 2020, in eight French hospitals.

Bryant-Li-Bhoj syndrome (BLBS), which became OMIM-classified in 2022 (OMIM: 619720, 619721), is caused by germline variants in the two genes that encode histone H3.3 (H3-3A/H3F3A and H3-3B/H3F3B) [1-4]. This syndrome is characterized by developmental delay/intellectual disability, craniofacial anomalies, hyper/hypotonia, and abnormal neuroimaging [1, 5].

Herpes simplex encephalitis in France: incidence, 6-month rehospitalizations and mortality.

Background: Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) is a disease with unfavorable vital and functional prognoses. There are no recent epidemiological data on HSE at a national level using real-life databases, especially in France. This study aimed to report the incidence, the clinical characteristics and outcomes of the patients with HSE.

Somatostatin Versus Octreotide for Prevention of Postoperative Pancreatic Fistula: The PREFIPS Randomized Clinical Trial: A FRENCH 007-ACHBT Study.

Objective: Pharmacological prevention of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) after pancreatectomy is open to debate. The present study compares clinically significant POPF rates in patients randomized between somatostatin versus octreotide as prophylactic treatment.

Methods: Multicentric randomized controlled open study in patient's candidate for pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) or distal pancreatectomy (DP) comparing somatostatin continuous intravenous infusion for 7 days versus octreotid 100 μg, every 8 hours subcutaneous injection for 7 days, stratified by procedure (PD vs DP) and size of the main pancreatic duct (>4 mm) on grade B/C POPF rates at 90 days based on an intention-to-treat analysis.

Parenting behaviors in mice: Olfactory mechanisms and features in models of autism spectrum disorders.

Rodents, along with numerous other mammals, heavily depend on olfactory cues to navigate their social interactions. Processing of olfactory sensory inputs is mediated by conserved brain circuits that ultimately trigger social behaviors, such as social interactions and parental care. Although innate, parenting is influenced by internal states, social experience, genetics, and the environment, and any significant disruption of these factors can impact the social circuits.

Preoperative DLCO predicts severe early complications after liver transplantation.

Background: Severe early complications are common after liver transplantation (LT) and are a key determinant of LT-related morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to assess whether lung function measured in the pre-operative period predicted complicated outcomes in the first month after LT.

Material And Methods: Patients with mild-to-moderate liver disease (Model for End stage Liver Disease-MELD score≤30) who underwent LT between October 2015 and May 2020 in a single centre were retrospectively included.

We performed a method comparison between the Fujirebio® Lumipulse G AMH assay and the Roche® Elecsys AMH assay using the same pediatric samples. We described full pediatric gender and age-specific reference ranges for AMH using the Fujirebio® AMH assay on the Lumipulse G 600 II. The study was performed on 281 plasma samples collected in tubes with lithium heparin.

BaHfTiO Ceramics from Sol-Gel and Solid-State Processes: Application to the Modelling of Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters.

A typical piezoelectric energy harvester is a bimorph cantilever with two layers of piezoelectric material on both sides of a flexible substrate. Piezoelectric layers of lead-based materials, typically lead zirconate titanate, have been mainly used due to their outstanding piezoelectric properties. However, due to lead toxicity and environmental problems, there is a need to replace them with environmentally benign materials.

Do patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus included in randomised clinical trials differ from general-practice patients? A cross-sectional comparative study.

Objectives: To compare the characteristics of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in general practice and those included in randomised controlled trials on which clinical practice guidelines are based.

Design: Cross-sectional comparative study.

Setting: We asked 45 general practitioners from three French Departments to identify the 15 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus they most recently saw in consultation.

Predictors of compulsive cyberporn use: A machine learning analysis.

Introduction: Compulsive cyberporn use (CCU) has previously been reported among people who use cyberporn. However, most of the previous studies included convenience samples of students or samples of the general adult population. Research examining the factors that predict or are associated with CCU are still scarce.

The majority of observational studies in leading peer-reviewed medicine journals are not registered and do not have a publicly accessible protocol: a scoping review.

Objectives: Observational studies are not subject to the same requirements as randomized controlled trials, such as registration or publishing a protocol. The aim of this scoping review was to estimate the registration rate of observational studies in leading peer-reviewed medicine journals and to evaluate whether protocols were available in the public domain.

Study Design And Setting: In March 2023, we searched OVID Medline for observational studies published in 2022 in the top five general medicine journals according to impact factor (The Lancet, The British Medical Journal (BMJ), The Journal of the American Medical Association, The New England Journal of Medicine, and Annals of Internal Medicine).

Profiles of well-being in French older adults and associations with successful aging and personality: findings from the SHARE project.

Maintaining the well-being of the older adults is a primary concern in gerontology. This study determined different profiles of well-being (WB) and compared the profiles in terms of successful aging (SA), personality, and sociodemographic variables. The study sample consisted of 856 adults aged 65-98 years.

Evaluation of Rodent Hair Tubes for Activity Indices.

Activity indices are used to determine the presence and activity of small mammals, such as the hair index derived from the use of hair tubes. In contrast to trapping animals, hair tubes are non-invasive and less labor-intensive, and appear to be a suitable alternative in appropriate settings. We developed a method to calculate hair density semi-automatically.

Day-case otology: Special attention to the pediatric cochlear implantation procedure.

Objective: Assess the feasibility of cochlear implantation as day-surgery in children and identify variables influencing admission, readmission, and unplanned postoperative consultation.

Methods: This retrospective observational monocentric study was conducted according to the STROBE recommendations. Between January 2017 and July 2022, all medical records of children who underwent cochlear implantation were analyzed.

Purpose: DISP1 encodes a transmembrane protein that regulates the secretion of the morphogen, Sonic hedgehog, a deficiency of which is a major cause of holoprosencephaly (HPE). Enhanced accuracy and reduced delay in diagnosing bone tumors within an expert sarcoma network: A nationwide study.

Introduction: Primary bone tumors encompass a range of rare and diverse lesions. Pathological diagnosis poses significant challenges, with histological discrepancies extensively studied in soft tissue sarcomas but lacking specific investigation in bone lesions. This study aimed to determine the rate of major diagnostic discrepancies in primary bone tumors, assessing whether initial histological analysis within an expert referral center network reduces this rate and final diagnostic delay.

A field approach to observing changes in behavioural welfare indicators over 2 years in stabled horses.

In stabled horses, several behaviours are considered to be important indicators of the state of welfare at the individual level: stereotypies, aggressive behaviours towards humans and the "withdrawn", alert, sternal, lateral and observation postures. Until now, these behaviours have been extensively studied in relation to different horse management practices. However, little is known about their changes or consistency over time.

The effect of diet composition on the diversity of active gut bacteria and on the growth of Spodoptera exigua (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

Gut microbiota plays a functional role in nutrition among several insects. However, the situation is unclear in Lepidoptera. Field studies suggest the microbiome may not be stable and is determined by diet, while in the laboratory, Lepidoptera are routinely reared on diet containing antibiotics with unknown effects on microbial communities.

Short-term exposure to cigarette smoke upregulates cathepsin S and alters expression of tight junction ZO-1.

A long-term exposure to cigarette smoke (CS) alters the integrity of airway epithelial barrier, contributes to lung dysfunction, and elicits the expression and activity of lung cathepsin S (CatS), a cysteine protease that participates in the remodeling of connective tissue and cell junctions. Here, we observed that a short-term (4 days) exposure of mice to CS increased the expression and activity of CatS, while the expression level of zonula occludens 1 (ZO-1), an epithelial tight junction protein that stabilizes barrier assembly, was reduced in lung tissue lysates. Present data support that proteolytically active CatS may contribute to the defect of ZO-1 in CS-exposed mice.

Heterogeneity of outcome measures in depression trials and the relevance of the content of outcome measures to patients: a systematic review.

Research waste occurs when randomised controlled trial (RCT) outcomes are heterogeneous or overlook domains that matter to patients (eg, relating to symptoms or functions). In this systematic review, we reviewed the outcome measures used in 450 RCTs of adult unipolar and bipolar depression registered between 2018 and 2022 and identified 388 different measures. 40% of the RCTs used the same measure (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale [HAMD]).

Does housing system affect horse welfare? The AWIN welfare assessment protocol applied to horses kept in an outdoor group-housing system: The 'parcours'.

Outdoor group housing is generally reported as being beneficial to the welfare of horses compared to single boxes, being considered to show greater similarities with the living conditions of feral horses, allowing full expression of behaviours such as grazing, social interactions and free movement. However, concerns persist regarding the ability to maintain a good nutritional state and the possibility of acquiring injury. No data reporting a comprehensive assessment of welfare for horses in outdoor group-housing systems are currently available.
