Numerous studies have reported benefits of music listening to support learning and motor rehabilitation. In the case of handwriting, previous studies suggested that musical background improves movement speed and fluency. Whether this benefit comes from the melody or is specifically related to the rhythmic cues provided by the music remains to be established.

Treating disruptive disorder with emotional dysregulation (DDED) is a challenge in terms of difficulties, objectives and results. In addition to a multi-disciplinary approach involving child psychiatrists, nurses, psychomotricists and educators, the use of animal mediation (dogs) appears relevant. Eight standardized group sessions with eight children aged 6 to 10, assessed by means of a semi-directive interview and several psychometric tools (MDI-C, Kidscreen, parent attachment inventory, child/family star, family/child star, alexithymia questionnaire) revealed improvements in listening skills, empathy, adaptability, socialization, anger and depression management, temper tantrum frequency, school complaints and depressive symptoms.

Theories of justice suggest that it serves two main purposes: punishment and restoration. Although punishment emerges early and has been well-documented, little is known about the contexts in which young children engage in restorative practices like compensation for victims. The current study investigated whether children's engagement in compensation and punishment (which often involve a redistribution of resources) was sensitive to characteristics of the perpetrator and victim known to shape distributive justice decisions (decisions about how resources should be distributed), such as social dominance, resource inequality, and moral character.

The International Breakfast Research Initiative is a global study of breakfast nutrition, involving 17 countries in four continents, aiming to derive nutrient-based regional recommendations for breakfast. This study aimed to propose a harmonised recommendation for three South-East Asian countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. For each country, data from nationally representative dietary surveys on the contribution of breakfast to daily nutrient intakes at both the adult population level and at the level of the upper tertile of daily nutrient density using the Nutrient Rich Food (NRF) Index were collated and examined.

Disruptive Emotional Dysregulation Disorder (DEDD) responds to an increase in diagnoses of clastic crises, reactive depression and bipolarity in children and adolescents. Emerging in the 1990s, EDD has become an issue for practitioners, parents and teachers alike, and has become an integral part of the landscape of paediatric and child psychiatric disorders. Its diagnostic complexity is accentuated by criteria that include persistent and disproportionate outbursts of anger, often confused with other pathologies, especially as diagnostic tools are few and far between.

Procedural learning has been mainly tested through motor sequence learning tasks in children with neurodevelopmental disorders, especially with isolated Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and Reading Disorder (RD). Studies on motor adaptation are scarcer and more controversial. This study aimed to compare the performance of children with isolated and associated DCD and RD in a graphomotor adaptation task.

Handwriting is a complex perceptual motor task that requires years of training and practice before complete mastery. Its acquisition is crucial, since handwriting is the basis, together with reading, of the acquisition of higher-level skills such as spelling, grammar, syntax, and text composition. Despite the correct learning and practice of handwriting, some children never master this skill to a sufficient level.

Article Synopsis
  • The Turkana Basin, despite being one of the driest areas in East Africa, has rich Plio-Pleistocene sediments that indicate the presence of freshwater resources for early hominins between 4.2 to 0.7 million years ago.
  • Research reveals that freshwater river and lake systems expanded in the Turkana Basin, providing vital drinking water and food sources during specific periods, notably from 4.20 Ma to 0.75 Ma.
  • Key milestones in hominin evolution and behavior, such as the emergence of new species and the development of stone tools, coincided with these freshwater conditions, highlighting their importance in early human development.

Supporting people suffering from anorexia nervosa remains a challenge. While traditional treatment focuses more on speech and its emergence for the patient and family, non-medicinal and non-verbal therapies are used more systematically, sometimes as a last resort. Yet, as a non-verbal mediated therapy, music therapy can find a legitimate place and complement all the psychiatric, psychotherapeutic, somatic, dietetic and nursing areas where speech already circulates.

The name of the game: palaeoproteomics and radiocarbon dates further refine the presence and dispersal of caprines in eastern and southern Africa.

Unité Archéozoologie, Archéobotanique: Sociétés, Pratiques, Environnements (AASPE), Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, CNRS, CP 56, 55 rue Buffon, 75005 Paris, France.

We report the first large-scale palaeoproteomics research on eastern and southern African zooarchaeological samples, thereby refining our understanding of early caprine (sheep and goat) pastoralism in Africa. Assessing caprine introductions is a complicated task because of their skeletal similarity to endemic wild bovid species and the sparse and fragmentary state of relevant archaeological remains. Palaeoproteomics has previously proved effective in clarifying species attributions in African zooarchaeological materials, but few comparative protein sequences of wild bovid species have been available.

Department of Medicine, Maieutic and Allied Health, Faculty of Health, University of Toulouse, Paul Sabatier Toulouse III, 133 Route de Narbonne, 31062 Toulouse, France.

To date, no consensus exists on the complex clinical decision-making processes involved in oropharyngeal dysphagia, or swallowing disorders. This study aimed to develop an international consensus on a clinical decision tree for the disease trajectory of oropharyngeal dysphagia in adults, taking into account physiological impairments of swallowing, risk factors for the development of complications from oropharyngeal dysphagia, and prognostic factors for treatment outcomes. Using the Delphi technique, consensus was achieved among dysphagia experts across 31 countries, resulting in a total of 10 physiological impairments, 23 risk factors and 21 prognostic factors identified as relevant factors in the clinical decision-making process.
