Quality of Life in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Importance of Psychological Symptoms.

Background Depressive, anxiety, and stress symptoms are prevalent in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and may negatively influence the disease course and quality of life. The study aimed to assess the relationship between psychological factors and patients' quality of life (QoL). Materials and methods A cross-sectional study with the use of a structured questionnaire among 38 patients with Crohn's disease and 30 with ulcerative colitis was conducted.

Frailty and Quality of Life Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults.

Older people often feel weak and have limited physical activity and walking capacity, without energy. These characteristics meet the conditions for the onset of the frailty syndrome. The effect that frailty syndrome can have on the elderly's quality of life (QOL) status has not been sufficiently explored, especially in the Greek population.

The effect of resonance on transient microbubble acoustic response: Experimental observations and numerical simulations.

A large number of acoustic signals from single lipid-shelled Definity (Lantheus Medical Imaging, N. Billerica, MA) microbubbles have been measured using a calibrated microacoustic system, and a unique transient characteristic of resonance has been identified in the onset of scatter. Comparison of the numerically obtained response of microbubbles with acoustic measurements provides good agreement for a soft shell that is characterized by small area dilatation modulus and strain softening behavior, and identifies time to maximum radial excursion and scatter as a robust marker of resonance during transient response.

Canine hyperlipidaemia.

Hyperlipidaemia refers to an increased concentration of lipids in the blood. Hyperlipidaemia is common in dogs and has recently emerged as an important clinical condition that requires a systematic diagnostic approach and appropriate treatment. Hyperlipidaemia can be either primary or secondary to other diseases.

Antiangiogenic strategies in hepatocellular carcinoma: current status.

Hepatocellular carcinoma is a leading cause of cancer death worldwide in both adult and pediatric patients. Despite many options, no ideal treatment exists for this highly malignant tumor, and management strategies have varied accordingly. Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels, is an essential component of hepatocellular carcinoma biology.

A comparison in concentration of heat shock proteins (HSP) 70 and 90 on chorionic villi of human placenta in normal pregnancies and in missed miscarriages.

Purpose: To investigate the role of heat shock protein (HSP) on the chorionic villi of human placental cells and to compare the concentration of placental HSP70 & 90 in term deliveries and in missed miscarriages.

Materials And Methods: Fifty products of conception from women who experienced first trimester missed miscarriage and 50 placentas from women who gave birth at term were studied. An immunohistochemical investigation was carried out with which we marked the localization of heat shock proteins 70 and 90 on the syncytiotrophoblastic, cytotrophoblastic, stromal and blood vessel cells, using specific antibodies which can detect the presence of those proteins on light microscopy.
