Background: Medicinal plants are widely used for healthcare needs, including oral health. In the Philippines, garlic, guava, tsaang-gubat, and hierba buena, although primarily recognized as plants used for the treatment of systemic diseases, are indicated as analgesics for dental pain, treatment of gingival inflammation, and oral health maintenance. Despite studies focusing on the effectiveness of these plants for oral health, there is little to no research on the populace's knowledge, attitude, and practices on these medicinal plants.

Sodium metabisulfite is widely used as a preservative in many food and beverage products, yet its potential effects on cognitive and motor functions at low concentrations remain poorly understood. Evaluating learning, short-term memory, and motor activity is essential, as these functions are critical indicators of neurological health and could be impacted by low-level exposure to sodium metabisulfite. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of sublethal concentrations of sodium metabisulfite on cognitive and motor functions using (fruit flies) as the model organism.

Introduction: Evolving human-wildlife interactions have contributed to emerging zoonoses outbreaks, and pandemic prevention policy for wildlife management and conservation requires enhanced consideration from this perspective. However, the risk of unintended consequences is high. In this study, we aimed to assess how unrecognised complexity and system adaptation can lead to policy failure, and how these dynamics may impact zoonotic spillover risk and food system outcomes.

As a putative lung specific oncogene, the transducin-like enhancer of split 1 (TLE1) corepressor drives an anti-apoptotic and pro-epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) gene transcriptional programs in human lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cells, thereby promoting anoikis resistance and tumor aggressiveness. Through its survival- and EMT-promoting gene regulatory programs, TLE1 may impact drug sensitivity and resistance in lung cancer cells. In the present study, a novel function of TLE1 was uncovered as an inhibitor of the antitumor effects of the epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) gefitinib in the human LUAD cell line A549, which exhibits moderate sensitivity to EGFR-TKI.
