In a multiyear, multisite, randomized control trial, we examined the effects of comprehensive professional development designed to support teachers' data-based instruction (DBI) for students with intensive early writing needs. Teachers ( = 154; primarily special educators or intervention specialists) were assigned randomly to a treatment group ( = 76), in which they received tools, learning, and coaching to support their DBI implementation over 20 weeks, or to a control group ( = 78). Students either received DBI in early writing ( = 155) from treatment teachers or their usual writing instruction ( = 154) from control teachers.

Article Synopsis
  • Cerebral vasospasm is a serious complication following traumatic brain injury (TBI) that can worsen neurological damage, but its risk factors and natural progression are not well understood.
  • This study evaluated various clinical (like age, sex, and need for surgery) and radiographic characteristics (such as types of brain hemorrhage) in TBI patients undergoing cerebral angiograms for posttraumatic vascular complications between 2017 and 2019.
  • The findings highlighted that all patients had subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and that vasospasm typically occurred 3 to 19 days after the initial trauma, with more severe cases seen in patients with cisternal SAH; however, there was not a clear link between

Word problem-solving (WPS) poses a significant challenge for many students, particularly those with mathematics difficulties (MD), hindering their overall mathematical development. To improve WPS proficiency, providing individualized and intensive interventions is critical. This umbrella review examined 11 medium- to high-quality meta-analyses to identify intervention and participant characteristics, informed by the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity (TII) framework, that consistently moderate WPS outcomes for students with MD.

Cross-linguistic studies with healthy individuals are vital, as they can reveal typologically common and different patterns while providing tailored benchmarks for patient studies. Nevertheless, cross-linguistic differences in narrative speech production, particularly among speakers of languages belonging to distinct language families, have been inadequately investigated. Using a picture description task, we analyze cross-linguistic variations in connected speech production across three linguistically diverse groups of cognitively normal participants-English, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), and Italian speakers.

Collaborative governance has become a prominent, if not dominant, framework for thinking about multi-scalar and cross-jurisdictional environmental management. The literature broadly and consistently suggests that collaborative capacity and inter-organizational networks provide the institutional framework for addressing social-ecological system challenges. Surprisingly little scholarship addresses processes of social influence (or contagion) in social-ecological systems writ large, or more specifically as it relates to collaborative capacity.

One of the hallmarks of invasive species is their propensity to spread. Removing an invasive species after establishment is virtually impossible, and so considerable effort is invested in preventing the range expansion of invaders. Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) were discovered in the Mississippi River in 1981 and have spread throughout the basin.

Calisthenics is a form of bodyweight exercise that involves dynamic and rhythmic exercises. The physiological responses during and after calisthenics remain unclear. This study examined whether a bout of full-body calisthenics, a form of circuit resistance exercise that involves bodyweight movements, yields greater excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) than steady-state exercise (SSE) at matched oxygen consumption.

Background: Mindfulness meditation is ubiquitous in health care, education, and communities at large. Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBIs) are the focus of hundreds of NIH-funded trials given the myriad health benefits associated with this practice across multiple populations. Notwithstanding, significant gaps exist in how mindfulness concepts are measured using currently available self-report instruments.

  • Intravenous lipids are important for very premature babies to get the nutrition they need safely.
  • The study compared two kinds of intravenous fats: one made with fish oil (CO-ILE) and another made with only soybean oil (SOLE), to see which was better for babies needing long-term nutrition.
  • Results showed that CO-ILE had a lower chance of causing liver problems and less yellowing of the skin compared to SOLE, suggesting CO-ILE might be a safer choice for these babies.

Introduction: Schizophrenia is characterized by a loss of network features between cognition and reward sub-circuits (notably involving the mesolimbic system), and this loss may explain deficits in learning and cognition. Learning in schizophrenia has typically been studied with tasks that include reward related contingencies, but recent theoretical models have argued that a loss of network features should be seen even when learning without reward. We tested this model using a learning paradigm that required participants to learn without reward or feedback.

Chromatin architecture is a fundamental mediator of genome function. Fasting is a major environmental cue across the animal kingdom, yet how it impacts three-dimensional (3D) genome organization is unknown. Here we show that fasting induces an intestine-specific, reversible and large-scale spatial reorganization of chromatin in Caenorhabditis elegans.

Although data-based individualization (DBI) has positive effects on learning outcomes for students with learning difficulties, this framework can be difficult for teachers to implement due to its complexity and contextual barriers. The first aim of this synthesis was to investigate the effects of ongoing professional development (PD) support for DBI on teachers' DBI knowledge, skills, beliefs, and fidelity and the achievement of preschool to Grade 12 students with academic difficulties. The second aim was to report on characteristics of this support and explore whether features were associated with effects.

This paper contributes to a broader movement in which the telos of leadership is flourishing, and the primary role of a leader is to promote the flourishing of their team members through creating a loving environment. In support of this, we propose a new perspective on, and associated model, of educational leadership: 'leadership for teacher flourishing' (LFTF). This model was developed through a literature review and a mixed methods research project across 78 British schools with collaborative and participatory elements which asked how school leaders could improve the flourishing of teachers.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic motor impairments are a significant disability after stroke, traditionally linked to damage in specific motor system structures like the corticospinal tract.
  • This study employs a data-driven approach to analyze chronic motor outcomes in 789 stroke patients, comparing the effectiveness of theory-based biomarkers against new data-driven biomarkers derived from clinical imaging data.
  • Results indicate that data-driven biomarkers, especially regional structural disconnection measures, show a stronger correlation with motor outcomes than traditional theory-based measures, while combining demographic factors further enhanced predictive accuracy.

For well-passivated semiconductor materials, the density of states (DOS) at the band edge determines the concentration of electrons (or holes) available to participate in photo/electrochemical redox and chemical reactions. Electrochemical impedance enables the characterization of photo-electrode DOS in a functional, in situ, electrochemical environment. However, the in situ electrochemical approach remains underutilized for band structure characterization of inorganic semiconductors.
