Zelsuvmi (berdazimer) topical gel has been approved recently for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum (MC) in patients aged ≥1 year. In three phase 3, randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled trials of similar design, berdazimer was investigated for the treatment of MC. Berdazimer or vehicle was applied once daily on MC lesions until complete lesion clearance was observed or for up to 12 weeks.

DAXXIFY (daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) for intramuscular injection was recently approved for temporary improvement in the appearance of the moderate to severe glabellar lines (GLs) associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity in adult patients. DaxibotulinumtoxinA for Injection (DAXI) includes a purified 150-kDA botulinum toxin Type A (BoNTA) formulated with a novel peptide excipient that is positively charged and helps to bind the neurotoxin to negatively charged neuronal membrane for a longer duration. The effectiveness of DAXI was evaluated in two phase 3 trials, SAKURA 1 and SAKURA 2, using a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design.

In the past, it was approved by the FDA for the treatment of metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (mCSCC) and locally advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (laCSCC), both being the advanced stages of CSCC. Cemiplimab is a monoclonal antibody that works by blocking the programmed death-1 pathway.

Spevigo (spesolimab-sbzo) injection was recently approved for the treatment of generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) in adults aged 18- 75 years. Spesolimab, a monoclonal antibody, binds to the interleukin-36 (IL-36) receptor and prevents its activation by IL-36 cytokines, leading to reduced inflammation, skin lesions, and flares. In a randomized placebo-controlled, phase 2 study (Effisayil-1, NCT03782792), 53 patients were randomized to spesolimab (n = 35) and placebo (n = 18) to evaluate the effect of a one-time 900-mg dose of spesolimab versus placebo against GPP flares.

Phospholipase D (PLD) is an enzyme with many functions, one of which is the synthesis of phosphatidic acid (PA), a molecule with a myriad of effects on various organ systems and processes. These numerous roles make it hard to understand the true action of PA in cellular and bodily processes. Imaging PLD activity is one way to better understand the synthesis of PA and start to elucidate its function.

Background: Development and recurrence of 2 eating disorders (EDs), anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, are frequently associated with environmental stressors. Neurobehavioral responses to social learning signals were evaluated in both EDs.
Methods: Women with anorexia nervosa (n = 25), women with bulimia nervosa (n = 30), or healthy comparison women (n = 38) played a neuroeconomic game in which the norm shifted, generating social learning signals (norm prediction errors [NPEs]) during a functional magnetic resonance imaging scan.

YCANTH (cantharidin) topical solution has been approved recently for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum (MC) in children (aged ≥2 years) and adults. It works by activating serine proteases that lead to blistering and inflammation, promoting shedding of infected cells and viral clearance. In two phase-3, randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled trials of similar design, VP-102 (a drug-device combination, containing cantharidin 0.

It is also indicated for use in intertriginous areas. Roflumilast, the active ingredient, inhibits PDE-4, leading to the suppression of pro-inflammatory immune responses in psoriatic lesions.

Deucravacitinib is a highly selective allosteric tyrosine kinase 2 inhibitor targeting dysregulated cytokine responses in psoriasis patients. Its efficacy was demonstrated in two randomized, placebo- and active comparator-controlled phase 3 trials, where a significantly higher proportion of patients, up to 58.

Epsolay cream is a novel topical treatment that utilizes microencapsulated benzoyl peroxide to treat moderate to severe papulopustular rosacea. It is effective at decreasing, and for some patients clearing, the papules, pustules, and telangiectasias associated with rosacea. It is well-tolerated with minimal adverse effects and has demonstrated efficacy comparable to other topical agents that are used for the condition.

Background And Objectives: HIV-associated autonomic neuropathy (HIV-AN) is common; however, its clinical effect is unclear. Previously, it was shown that the composite autonomic severity score is associated with markers of morbidity such as the Veterans Affair Cohort Study index. In addition, it is known that cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy due to diabetes is associated with poor cardiovascular outcomes.

Purpose Of Review: Social and environmental factors have been related to both symptom expression of disordered eating in individuals and changes in the prevalence of eating disorders (EDs) in populations. Neural differences in processing social information may contribute to EDs. This review assesses the evidence for aberrant neural responses during social processing in EDs.

Purpose: Lifestyle-related disease substantially impacts health, but physicians lack adequate nutrition education to discuss behavioral change with patients. Many medical schools have developed culinary medicine programs as a nutrition education strategy, but common elements of success have not been defined.
Method: The authors conducted a scoping review of the literature on culinary medicine programs for medical students.

Introduction: HIV infection causes a wide range of neurological complications, many of which are among the most common complications of chronic HIV infection in the era of combined antiretroviral therapy. These neurological conditions arise due to complex interactions between HIV viral proteins and neuronal and glial cells that lead to the activation of various inflammatory and neurotoxic pathways across the nervous system.
Areas Covered: This review summarizes the current literature on the pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of neurological injuries associated with HIV in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system.

The autonomic nervous system (ANS), hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, and immune system are connected anatomically and functionally. These three systems coordinate the central and peripheral response to perceived and systemic stress signals. Both the parasympathetic and sympathetic components of the autonomic nervous system rapidly respond to stress signals, while the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and immune system have delayed but prolonged actions.

Oxytocin is a neurotransmitter related to both feeding and social behavior; anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric illness defined by reduced food intake, weight loss, and problems in social perceptions. Oxytocin receptor single nucleotide polymorphisms rs2254298 or rs53576 and neural responses to social stimuli were evaluated in adult women with or recovered from anorexia nervosa using functional magnetic resonance imaging. Carriers of the A allele for rs2254298 (2 AA and 10 AG) showed significantly reduced activation of portions of the posterior cingulate cortex and medial prefrontal cortex for social stimuli as well as greater negative connectivity between the posterior cingulate and the occipital lobe relative to the GG subjects for rs2254298.
