Common pancreatobiliary epithelial malignancies such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder carcinoma have poor prognosis. A small but significant portion of these malignancies arise from mass-forming grossly and radiologically visible premalignant epithelial neoplasms in the pancreatobiliary tree. Several lesions, including a few recently described entities, fall under this category and predominantly include papillary epithelial lesions with or without mucin production.

This study aimed to adapt evidence-based diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) into a faith-based (FB) context for Hispanic communities and compare its effectiveness to a faith-placed (FP) approach using the church as a venue for DSMES delivery. A cluster-randomized trial was conducted among adults with type 2 diabetes from predominantly Hispanic churches. The churches were assigned to either the FB Group (nine churches, n = 146) or the FP Group (seven churches, n = 125).

Objectives: Drawing on the socioecological model of sleep health, we formally examine the association between neighborhood disorder and sleep efficiency. While most studies focus on direct associations with neighborhood context, we also consider whether the relationship between religious attendance and sleep efficiency varies as a function of neighborhood disorder.
Design: We use ordinary least squares regression to model cross-sectional survey data.

Understanding the carbon formation on Ni surfaces is critical for the controlled Ni-based nanofabrication and heterogeneous catalysis. Due to the high solubility of carbon in nickel and the complicated migrations of carbon in the near-surface area, achieving a fundamental understanding of the initial carbonation of a Ni surface at an atomic level is experimentally challenging. Herein, the initial formation of surface carbon adsorbates on Ni(111) from the Boudouard reaction (2CO ↔ CO + C) is studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) in combination with density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

While studies indicate that females experience a higher concussion risk and more severe outcomes in soccer heading compared to males, comprehensive data on the underlying factors contributing to these sex-based differences are lacking. This study investigates the sex differences in the head-to-ball impact kinematics among college-aged soccer headers in a laboratory-controlled setting. Forty subjects (20 females, 20 males) performed ten headers, and impact kinematics, including peak angular acceleration and velocity (PAA, PAV) and peak linear acceleration (PLA), were measured using mouthguards.

In hot and humid work environments, construction workers can experience heat stress and heat-related illnesses (HRIs). While several studies have investigated engineering and administrative control methods to prevent certain heat stress risk factors, a comprehensive understanding of all existing risk factors and their corresponding control strategies is still lacking. It is crucial to identify gaps in current control strategies and develop a safety management framework for effective heat stress control by implementing existing measures.

Homelessness is associated with accelerated disease progression, and housing placements are less likely when experiencing serious illness. Little research to date has focused on how to successfully secure housing placement during serious illness and end of life. This study aimed to address this gap by examining factors influencing housing placement among seriously ill palliative care patients experiencing homelessness.

Viral infection plays a significant role in the development and progression of many cancers. Certain viruses, such as Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), and Hepatitis B and C viruses (HBV, HCV), are well-known for their oncogenic potential. These viruses can dysregulate specific molecular and cellular processes through complex interactions with host cellular mechanisms.

SARS-CoV-2 3CL protease (Main protease) and human cathepsin L are proteases that play unique roles in the infection of human cells by SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19. Both proteases recognize leucine and other hydrophobic amino acids at the P position of a peptidomimetic inhibitor. At the P position, cathepsin L accepts many amino acid side chains, with a partial preference for phenylalanine, while 3CL-PR protease has a stringent specificity for glutamine or glutamine analogues.

The accurate characterization of microtubules is essential for understanding their roles in various biological activities in eukaryotic cellular processes. In vitro, experimental data on these systems often need more details and information on sample preparation protocols and experimental techniques. This deficiency leads to unreproducible or contradictory outcomes.

Shoulder and elbow injuries are prevalent among baseball players, particularly pitchers, who experience repetitive eccentric loading of the shoulder, leading to muscle damage and increased injury risk. Nearly 40% of shoulder injuries in baseball occur in pitchers, with many facing low rates of return to sport. The rotator cuff (RC) muscles-supraspinatus (SSP), infraspinatus (ISP), subscapularis (SSC), and teres minor (TMin)-are crucial for shoulder stability, movement, and force generation, particularly in overhead sports.

Safety learning during threat and adversity is critical for behavioral adaptation, resiliency, and survival. Using a novel mouse paradigm involving thermal threat, we recently demonstrated that safety learning is highly susceptible to social isolation stress. Yet, our previous study primarily considered male mice and did not thoroughly scrutinize the relative impacts of stress on potentially distinct defensive mechanisms implemented by males and females during the thermal safety task.

Experimental design in language cognition research often involves presenting language material while measuring associated behavior and/or neural activity. To make the collected data easily and fully analyzable by both the original data authors and others, it is important to have detailed information about the stimulus presentation events, including the nature and properties of the presented stimuli, using a common vocabulary and syntax. We present HED LANG, a library extension of the Hierarchical Event Descriptors (HED) event annotation schema for time series behavioral and neuroimaging data.

Background: Acute pancreatitis is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity. Most acute pancreatitis scoring systems have no pathophysiologic basis when evaluating severity. Such a limitation led to an interest in measuring intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) as a method to predict outcomes in patients with acute pancreatitis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAlcohol use and alcohol-related mortality for pregnant and postpartum women have increased, and there are racial disparities in both alcohol consumption and pregnancy outcomes. In addition, data indicate that women of Color are more likely to experience many forms of violence and face more adverse consequences from violence than non-Hispanic White women. Therefore, the current study examined how the direct and indirect pathways between intimate partner violence (IPV), depressive symptoms, and alcohol consumption are moderated by both social support and race among postpartum women.

Juvenile hormone (JH) is one of the most essential hormones controlling insect metamorphosis and physiology. While it is well known that JH affects many tissues throughout the insect life cycle, the difference in JH responsiveness and the repertoire of JH-inducible genes among different tissues has not been fully investigated. In this study, we monitored JH responsiveness using transgenic flies carrying a () construct.

Research on endogenous auditory spatial attention typically uses headphones or sounds in the frontal hemispace, which undersamples panoramic spatial hearing. Crossmodal attention studies also show that visual information impacts spatial hearing and attention. Given the overlap between vision and audition in frontal space, we tested the hypothesis that the distribution of endogenous auditory spatial attention would differ when attending to the front versus back hemispace.
