Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Women's Health, University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, Austin, TX, USA.

Among cervical cancers, adenocarcinoma is less common than squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix; however, the incidence of these cancers is rising. The incidence has changed largely due to a shift in risk factors as well as the evolution of the diagnosis and classification of adenocarcinoma. Adenocarcinoma of the cervix is composed of a diverse group of neoplasms that can be classified by various factors.

Current intensified chemotherapy regimens have significantly increased survival rates for pediatric patients with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), but these treatments can result in serious adverse effects; furthermore, patients who are resistant to chemotherapy or who relapse have inferior outcomes, together highlighting the need for improved therapeutic strategies. Despite recent advances in stratifying T-ALL into molecular subtypes with distinct driver mutations, efforts to target the tumor-intrinsic genomic alterations critical for T-ALL progression have yet to translate into more effective and less toxic therapies. Ample evidence now indicates that extrinsic factors in the leukemic microenvironment are critical for T-ALL growth, infiltration, and therapeutic resistance.

Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Center for Psychedelic Research and Therapy, The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, 1601 Trinity Street, Bldg. B, Stop Z0600, Austin, TX, 78712, USA.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder with defining abnormalities in memory, and psychedelics may be promising candidates for the treatment of PTSD given their effects on multiple memory systems. Most PTSD and psychedelic research has investigated memory with fear conditioning and extinction. While fruitful, conditioning and extinction provide a limited model of the complexity of PTSD and phenomenology of psychedelics, thereby limiting the refinement of therapies.

  • Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the TSC1 or TSC2 genes, leading to the abnormal growth of tissues in various organs due to mTOR pathway dysregulation.
  • It can cause neurological issues such as brain tumors, drug-resistant epilepsy, developmental delays, and other behavioral challenges.
  • The review discusses TSC's clinical manifestations, recommended diagnostic and genetic tests, available treatments, and essential educational and social support resources for affected individuals.

Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling regulates embryonic morphogenesis utilizing the primary cilium, the cell's antenna, which acts as a signaling hub. Fuz, an effector of planar cell polarity signaling, regulates Shh signaling by facilitating cilia formation, and the G protein-coupled receptor 161 (Gpr161) is a negative regulator of Shh signaling. The range of phenotypic malformations observed in mice bearing mutations in either of the genes encoding these proteins is similar; however, their functional relationship has not been previously explored.

  • Research on unintentional femur fractures in children under 2 years is limited, with this study examining cases reported in emergency departments related to consumer products from 2017 to 2021.
  • Approximately 8,891 children were treated for femur fractures, with the highest number in 2020, often involving furniture and falls on stairs, particularly when adults fell while carrying the child.
  • The findings emphasize the need for caution around common household items and areas like stairs, which pose risks to very young children, even before they start moving independently.

We present the case of a 4 year old child who developed cardiogenic shock due to permanent junctional reciprocating tachycardia, requiring left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support. Despite the initial critical clinical presentation, successful myocardial recovery was achieved over 5 months, allowing for successful LVAD explantation. The patient's young age and behavioral issues were constraining factors for a prolonged LVAD wean trial.

  • Accurate intraoperative diagnosis of primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) is challenging due to overlapping features with other CNS conditions, but a new method combining stimulated Raman histology (SRH) and deep learning seeks to improve this.
  • The deep learning system, RapidLymphoma, analyzes unprocessed tissue samples quickly, achieving high accuracy in distinguishing PCNSL from other entities, with an overall accuracy of 97.81% in a test cohort.
  • RapidLymphoma not only provides rapid diagnostic results but also visual feedback, aiding surgical decision-making and potential treatment strategies within a critical timeframe.

Psychedelics are recognised for their potential to re-orient beliefs. We propose a model of how psychedelics can, in some cases, lead to false insights and thus false beliefs. We first review experimental work on laboratory-based false insights and false memories.

Background: Vital signs are an essential component of the emergency department (ED) assessment. Vital sign abnormalities are associated with adverse events in the ED setting and may indicate a risk of poor outcomes after ED discharge.

Clinical Question: What is the risk of adverse events among adult patients with abnormal vital signs at the time of ED discharge?

Evidence Review: Studies retrieved included 6 retrospective studies with adult patients discharged from the ED.

Objective:  Studies outside of obstetrics suggest that patient-provider language concordance may impact the efficacy of educational interventions and overall patient satisfaction. Many pregnant patients who present to the hospital for delivery with initial plans to exclusively breastfeed ultimately leave the hospital supplementing with formula. We aim to examine the impact of language concordance between patients and their primary bedside nurse during the delivery hospitalization period on the relationship between intended and actual feeding practices for term newborns of primiparous patients at a single institution.
