The efficacy of antibody responses is inherently linked to paratope diversity, as generated through V(D)J recombination and somatic hypermutation. Despite this, it is unclear how genetic diversification mechanisms evolved alongside codon optimality and affect antibody expression. Here, we analyze germline immunoglobulin (IG) genes, natural V(D)J repertoires, serum IgG, and monoclonal antibody (mAb) expression through the lens of codon optimality.

The failure of synthetic small-diameter vascular grafts has been attributed to a mismatch in the compliance between the graft and native artery, driving mechanisms that promote thrombosis and neointimal hyperplasia. Additionally, the buckling of grafts results in large deformations that can lead to device failure. Although design features can be added to lessen the buckling potential (e.

Single metal atoms embedded in nitrogen-doped graphene (M-N-C) have emerged as a promising catalyst for a wide variety of reactions. In addition to the pyridinic site, there is another site responsible for the catalytic activity, but its structure is under debate. Here, we resolve its structure using first-principles calculations.

A synaptic memristor using 2D ferroelectric junctions is a promising candidate for future neuromorphic computing with ultra-low power consumption, parallel computing, and adaptive scalable computing technologies. However, its utilization is restricted due to the limited operational voltage memory window and low on/off current (I) ratio of the memristor devices. Here, it is demonstrated that synaptic operations of 2D InSe ferroelectric junctions in a planar memristor architecture can reach a voltage memory window as high as 16 V (±8 V) and I ratio of 10, significantly higher than the current literature values.

Implementation of machine learning (ML) techniques in materials science often requires large data sets. However, a proper choice of features and regression methods allows the construction of accurate ML models able to work with a relatively small data set. In this work, an extensive, although still limited, experimental data set of corrosion-related properties of Zn-based alloys used in biomedicine was created.

Objectives: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a key biomedical intervention for ending the HIV epidemic in the United States, but its uptake is impeded by systemic barriers, including fragmented workflows and ineffective data coordination. This study aims to design PrEPLinker, a blockchain-based, client-centered platform to enhance care to address these challenges by improving care coordination and enabling clients to securely manage their identity and PrEP-related data.
Materials And Methods: Using Houston, Texas, as a use case, we conducted a needs assessment with PrEP collaborators to evaluate existing workflows and identify barriers in the PrEP care continuum.

This article examines the need for reform in medical school admissions to better align with the collaborative and patient-centered nature of contemporary healthcare. Traditional admissions processes prioritize academic excellence, often neglecting essential interpersonal and team-based skills. We advocate for several strategies to address this gap.

Background: Oncology nurses frequently contend with intense work-related emotions stemming from their roles, which include bearing witness to suffering, managing end-of-life care, and navigating ethical dilemmas. These emotional challenges can lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, and overall psychological distress.
Objective: To determine the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effect of implementing Storytelling Through Music (STM) online with oncology nurses.

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) is a tickborne virus that can cause severe disease in humans with case fatality rates of 10%-40%. Although structures of CCHFV glycoproteins GP38 and Gc have provided insights into viral entry and defined epitopes of neutralizing and protective antibodies, the structure of glycoprotein Gn and its interactions with GP38 and Gc have remained elusive. Here, we use structure-guided protein engineering to produce a stabilized GP38-Gn-Gc heterotrimeric glycoprotein complex (GP38-Gn-Gc).

Physical contact between infants and caregivers is crucial for attachment development. Previous research shows that skin-to-skin contact after birth and frequent baby wearing in the first year predict secure attachment at 12-months. This relationship is thought to be mediated by the activation of infants' parasympathetic nervous system through caregiver touch.

Consider a Bayesian setup in which we observe , whose distribution depends on a parameter , that is, . The parameter is unknown and treated as random, and a prior distribution chosen from some parametric family , is to be placed on it. For the subjective Bayesian there is a single prior in the family which represents his or her beliefs about , but determination of this prior is very often extremely difficult.

This study explores digital inclusion for youth in out-of-home placement within the child welfare system, a group impacted by significant social determinants affecting health. Recognized as a "super social determinant of health," digital inclusion holds promise in addressing key health factors, such as social relationships, support systems, and information access. The study surveyed 131 foster parents and 152 kinship providers across varied U.

Background: The occurrence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following a traumatic event is associated with biological differences that can represent the susceptibility to PTSD, the impact of trauma, or the sequelae of PTSD itself. These effects include differences in DNA methylation (DNAm), an important form of epigenetic gene regulation, at multiple CpG loci across the genome. Moreover, these effects can be shared or specific to both central and peripheral tissues.

Background: Pregnant people living in states that banned abortion after the US Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v Wade (Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Organization -Dobbs decision) may evaluate multiple factors when deciding where to obtain facility-based abortion care in another state. We examine Texans' stated preferences for out-of-state facility-based abortion care and quantify the trade-offs they would make when choosing between out-of-state facilities following a 2022 abortion ban.
Methods: In August 2022, we surveyed Texans ≥ 16 years old seeking abortion at in-state facilities or who were searching online for information about accessing abortion care.

We disclose a broad platform for copper-catalyzed atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) of electron-deficient olefins. Catalytic Cu(dtbbpy)(OTf) enables radical addition of electron-deficient alkyl halides to acrylates, acrylamides, and vinyl sulfones in fair to excellent yields. The resultant ATRA products can be used in a variety of telescoped reactions, including substitution with basic amine nucleophiles to afford α-amino esters.

Here, we study the intersection between nuclear-cytoskeletal coupling and chemotherapy nuclear internalization. We find that chronic and acute modulation of intracellular filaments changes nuclear influx of doxorubicin (DOX).

Simulation of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) in models has been an uncertain component in determining the impacts of atmospheric aerosols on air quality and climate. Recent studies have shown that reactive chlorine can rapidly oxidize volatile organic compounds (VOCs), trigger SOA formation, and alter other oxidants, thus having a potentially significant effect on SOA, which has not been thoroughly investigated at the global scale. Here, we developed a chlorine-SOA simulation within a global chemical transport model along with updated anthropogenic continental chlorine emissions.

In the indoor environment, occupants are exposed to air pollutants originating from continuous indoor sources and exchange with the outdoor air, with the highest concentration episodes dominated by activities performed indoors such as cooking and cleaning. Here we use the INdoor CHEMical model in Python (INCHEM-Py) constrained by measurements from the House Observations of Microbial and Environmental Chemistry (HOMEChem) campaign, to investigate the impact of a bleach cleaning event and cooking on indoor air chemistry. Measurements of the concentrations of longer-lived organic and inorganic compounds, as well as measured photolysis rates, have been used as input for the model, and the modelled hydroxyl (OH) radicals, hydroperoxyl radicals, and nitrous acid (HONO) concentrations compared to the measured values.
