Objective: To further characterize the clinicopathologic features of oral verrucous carcinoma.
Methods: In accordance with PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review of the Medline, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane databases was performed in search of articles evaluating clinicopathologic features of oral verrucous carcinoma. Primary outcomes of interest included tumor subsites, T-staging, rates of cervical lymph node metastases, rates of distant metastases, 5-year survival (overall, disease-free, or disease-specific), and recurrence rates.

Background: Compared to normal high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol values, very high HDL cholesterol is associated with a higher incidence of mortality and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). As such, clinical risk stratification among persons with very high HDL cholesterol is challenging.
Objectives: Among persons with very high HDL cholesterol, the purpose was to determine the prevalence of coronary artery calcium (CAC) and compare the association between traditional risk factors vs CAC for all-cause mortality and ASCVD.

Background: In 2016, the United Network for Organ Sharing revised its pediatric heart transplant (HT) allocation policy.
Objectives: This study sought to determine whether the 2016 revisions are associated with reduced waitlist mortality and capture patient-specific risks.
Methods: Children listed for HT from 1999 to 2023 were identified using Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network data and grouped into 3 eras (era 1: 1999-2006; era 2: 2006-2016; era 3: 2016-2023) based on when the United Network for Organ Sharing implemented allocation changes.

Background: Pediatric surgeons often treat patients with complex anatomical considerations due to congenital anomalies or distortion of normal structures by solid organ tumors. There are multiple applications for three-dimensional visualization of these structures based on cross-sectional imaging. Recently, advances in artificial intelligence (AI) applications and graphics hardware have made rapid 3D modelling of individual structures within the body accessible to surgeons without sophisticated and expensive hardware.

Importance: Epilepsy is a highly treatable condition for many people, but there are large treatment gaps with suboptimal seizure control in minoritized groups. The sexual and gender minority (SGM) community is at risk for health disparities, yet the burden of epilepsy in this community is not known.
Objective: To estimate the prevalence of active epilepsy among SGM people in the United States.

Introduction: Previous literature suggests socioeconomic status and racial disparities impact management decisions for patients with small renal masses. We aim to build upon these findings and examine how these modalities impact patient adherence to their management plan.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed our Kidney Tumor Program database (n = 1476) containing patients from 2000 to 2020.

Objectives: To determine the incidence of A-frame deformity and suprastomal collapse after pediatric tracheostomy.
Study Design: Retrospective cohort.
Methods: All patients (<18 years) that had a tracheostomy placed at a tertiary institution between 2015 and 2020 were included.

Background: Although current guidelines recommend a 5 mm surgical margin for the excision of melanoma in situ (MIS), increasing evidence has shown this may be suboptimal to achieve tumor clearance.
Objective: To evaluate margins required for optimal cure rates with excision of MIS on the head and neck and investigate tumor and/or patient factors in those requiring >5 mm margins to achieve tumor clearance.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed on 846 (807 primary and 39 recurrent) MIS cases on the head and neck treated in the authors' dermatologic surgery department over a 126-month (10.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a diagnostic model to estimate the distribution of small renal mass (SRM; ≤4 cm) histologic subtypes for patients with different demographic backgrounds and clear cell likelihood score (ccLS) designations.
Materials And Methods: A bi-institution retrospective cohort study was conducted where 347 patients (366 SRMs) underwent magnetic resonance imaging and received a ccLS before pathologic confirmation between June 2016 and November 2021. Age, sex, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, body mass index (BMI), and the ccLS were tabulated.

Objective: Despite being one of the most prevalent neurological diseases, the pathophysiology of essential tremor (ET) is not fully understood. Neuropathological studies have identified numerous degenerative changes in the cerebellum of ET patients, however. These data align with considerable clinical and neurophysiological data linking ET to the cerebellum.

Neuroinflammation through enhanced innate immunity is thought play a role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods for monitoring neuroinflammation in living patients with PD are currently limited to positron emission tomography (PET) ligands that lack specificity in labeling immune cells in the nervous system. The colony stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1R) plays a crucial role in microglial function, an important cellular contributor to the nervous system's innate immune response.

We report the genome sequences of seven recently isolated Escherichia coli strains from symptomatic postmenopausal women with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections. We have observed rapid laboratory evolution of strains after isolation. These strains were minimally passaged before analysis to prevent changes during culturing.

Whether individuals in real-world settings are able to lose weight and improve cardiometabolic risk factors over time is unclear. We aimed to determine the management of and degree of body weight change over 2 years among individuals with overweight or obesity, and to assess associated changes in cardiometabolic risk factors and clinical outcomes. Using data from 11 large health systems within the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Network in the U.

Background: The second Multicenter Medication Reconciliation Quality Improvement Study demonstrated a marked reduction in medication discrepancies per patient. The aim of the current analysis was to determine the association of patient exposure to each system-level intervention and receipt of each patient-level intervention on these results.
Methods: This study was conducted at 17 North American Hospitals, the study period was 18 months per site, and sites typically adopted interventions after 2-5 months of preintervention data collection.

Access to care for patients with ESKD is frequently disrupted after natural disasters, public health crises, and human conflict. Emergency preparation can mitigate the risk of harm and improve outcomes. Before Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the United States was unprepared to assist patients facing disaster.

The 2021 focused update to the Infections Diseases Society of America/Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (IDSA/SHEA) guidelines for management of infection (CDI) prioritizes the use of fidaxomicin over vancomycin for the treatment of initial and recurrent CDI. These recommendations have significant clinical and financial ramifications for hospitals and patients with CDI. Antimicrobial stewardship programs must balance the needs, goals, and barriers faced by patients and health systems when determining the best treatment strategy for CDI.

Introduction: A kV imager coupled to a novel, ring-gantry radiotherapy system offers improved on-board kV-cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) acquisition time (17-40 seconds) and image quality, which may improve CT radiotherapy image-guidance and enable online adaptive radiotherapy. We evaluated whether inter-observer contour variability over various anatomic structures was non-inferior using a novel ring gantry kV-CBCT (RG-CBCT) imager as compared to diagnostic-quality simulation CT (simCT).
Materials/methods: Seven patients undergoing radiotherapy were imaged with the RG-CBCT system at breath hold (BH) and/or free breathing (FB) for various disease sites on a prospective imaging study.
