Purpose: Electronic health records (EHRs) comprise a rich source of real-world data for cancer studies, but they often lack critical structured data elements such as diagnosis date and disease stage. Fortunately, such concepts are available from hospital cancer registries. We describe experiences from integrating cancer registry data with EHR and billing data in an interoperable data model across a multisite clinical research network.

Meeting Report: Translational Advances in Cancer Prevention Agent Development Meeting.

The Division of Cancer Prevention of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Office of Disease Prevention of the National Institutes of Health co-sponsored the Translational Advances in Cancer Prevention Agent Development Meeting on August 27 to 28, 2020. The goals of this meeting were to foster the exchange of ideas and stimulate new collaborative interactions among leading cancer prevention researchers from basic and clinical research; highlight new and emerging trends in immunoprevention and chemoprevention as well as new information from clinical trials; and provide information to the extramural research community on the significant resources available from the NCI to promote prevention agent development and rapid translation to clinical trials. The meeting included two plenary talks and five sessions covering the range from pre-clinical studies with chemo/immunopreventive agents to ongoing cancer prevention clinical trials.

Protein damage that accumulates during aging can be mitigated by a repair methyltransferase, the l-isoaspartyl-O-methyltransferase. In Caenorhabditis elegans, the pcm-1 gene encodes this enzyme. In response to pheromone, we show that pcm-1 mutants form fewer dauer larvae with reduced survival due to loss of the methyltransferase activity.

Histories of family violence are predictors of adolescent acceptance of interpersonal violence within intimate relationships. This study focused on the progression of abusive relationships from childhood to courtship and intimacy among 40 rural Mexican American adolescents in the southwestern United States. Emphasis was on interactions that were extensions of cultural expectations for intimacy, family, and sex roles.

Methods: We conducted a prospective, descriptive study of 192 consecutive African-American (37%) and Hispanic women (63%). Each woman underwent a detailed interview concerning sexual behavior.
