In this study, we aimed to integrate a genetic repository with an existing longitudinal national burn database. However, the recent biochemical and genetic characterization of DSB repair pathways reveals that only homologous recombination (HR) can function in an error-free manner and that the non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) pathways canonical NHEJ (c-NHEJ), alternative end joining (alt-EJ), and single-strand annealing (SSA) are error-prone, and potentially leave behind genomic scars and altered genomes. The strong cell cycle restriction of HR to S/G2 phases and the unparalleled efficiency of c-NHEJ throughout the cell cycle, raise the intriguing question as to how far a surviving cell "reaches" after repairing the genome back to its pre-irradiation state.

Purpose: Herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO) following COVID-19 vaccination has been reported previously but the clinical characteristics, onset, treatment, and outcomes of these cases have not been previously systematically reviewed.

Methods: A systematic review, guided by PRISMA guidelines, surveyed PubMed and Embase databases from April 2021 to June 2023 for case reports and series detailing HZO following COVID-19 vaccination. Studies excluded were abstracts, reviews, and clinical trials.

Prevalence of Kaposi sarcoma in the United States: SEER cross-sectional study.

Primary Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a rare cancer caused by human herpesvirus-8 that most often affects people with compromised immune systems. Since knowledge of the relationship between disease and sociodemographic factors contributes to the development of precision medicine, we investigated the prevalence of KS within the US population. Using SEER, we found that the Black population had the highest prevalence rate in 2018 compared to other racial groups.

Mechanical unloading causes bone loss, but it remains unclear whether disuse-induced changes to bone microstructure are permanent or can be recovered upon reloading. Based on the available literature, duplicated internal auditory canals (DIACs) represent an exceedingly rare temporal bone anomaly that can result in sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) in the pediatric population. Often associated with a hypoplastic or aplastic cochlear nerve, DIAC poses limitations on treatment options, such as cochlear implants, for affected patients. Accurate diagnosis and optimal management necessitate a thorough assessment of inner ear structures and potential neural abnormalities with high-resolution computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the temporal bones.
